Luke

1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

2during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.

3He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.

4As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,“The voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘Make ready the way of the Lord.Make his paths straight.

5Every valley will be filled.Every mountain and hill will be brought low.The crooked will become straight, and the rough ways smooth.

6All flesh will see God’s salvation.’”

7He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance, and don’t begin to say among yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father;’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones!

9Even now the ax also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

10The multitudes asked him, “What then must we do?”

11He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”

12Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what must we do?”

13He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”

14Soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages.”

15As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ,

16John answered them all, “I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire.

17His winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

18Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,

19but Herod the tetrarch,being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’swife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,

20added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

21Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also had been baptized and was praying. The sky was opened,

22and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form like a dove on him; and a voice came out of the sky, saying “You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased.”

23Jesus himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,

24the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,

25the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,

26the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah,

27the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,

28the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er,

29the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,

30the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim,

31the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

32the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,

33the son of Amminadab, the son of Aram,the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,

34the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

35the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,

36the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

37the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,

38the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Giăng Báp-tít Dọn Đường

1Năm thứ mười lăm đời Hoàng đế La Mã Ti-be-rơ. Khi đó Phi-lát làm tổng trấn xứ Giu-đê; Hê-rốt làm vua xứ Ga-li-lê; em Hê-rốt là Phi-líp cai trị xứ I-tu-rê và Tra-cô-nít; Ly-sa-nia cai trị xứ A-bi-len.

2An-ne và Cai-phe giữ chức thượng tế. Bấy giờ, Giăng, con Xa-cha-ri, nghe tiếng gọi của Đức Chúa Trời trong hoang mạc.

3Giăng đi khắp lưu vực sông Giô-đan, dạy mọi người phải chịu báp-tem để chứng tỏ lòng ăn năn, và quay về Đức Chúa Trời để được tha tội.

4Theo lời Tiên tri Y-sai nói về Giăng: “Người là tiếng gọi nơi hoang dã:‘Phải dọn đường cho Chúa! Ngay thật mở lòng chờ đón Ngài!

5Hãy lấp đầy các thung lũng,và san phẳng các núi đồi.Hãy làm cho thẳng những khúc quanh co,và san cho bằng những chỗ gồ ghề.

6Và nhân loại sẽ thấysự cứu chuộc từ Đức Chúa Trời.’”

7Giăng cảnh cáo đoàn dân đến xin chịu báp-tem: “Con cái loài rắn! Làm sao các ông có thể tránh thoát hình phạt của Đức Chúa Trời?

8Muốn chịu báp-tem, các ông phải có một đời sống mới, chứng tỏ lòng ăn năn trở lại với Đức Chúa Trời. Đừng tưởng mình là dòng dõi Áp-ra-ham thì Đức Chúa Trời sẽ dung tha, vì Đức Chúa Trời có quyền biến những hòn đá này thành con cháu Áp-ra-ham.

9Lưỡi búa xét đoán của Đức Chúa Trời đã vung lên! Cây nào không sinh quả tốt sẽ bị Ngài đốn và ném vào lửa!”

10Dân chúng hỏi: “Vậy chúng tôi phải làm gì?”

11Giăng đáp: “Phải chia cơm sẻ áo cho người nghèo!”

12Những người thu thuế—hạng người mang tiếng xấu trong xã hội—cũng đến chịu báp-tem. Họ hỏi: “Chúng tôi phải làm gì?”

13Ông đáp: “Phải liêm khiết, đừng lạm thu các sắc thuế nhà nước đã ấn định.”

14Các quân nhân cũng hỏi: “Còn chúng tôi phải làm gì?” Giăng đáp: “Đừng áp bức hay vu cáo để tống tiền, nhưng phải bằng lòng với đồng lương của mình!”

15Lúc ấy, mọi người trông đợi Đấng Mết-si-a đều muốn biết Giăng có phải là Đấng Mết-si-a không.

16Giăng giải đáp: “Tôi chỉ làm báp-tem bằng nước, nhưng Đấng sắp đến sẽ làm báp-tem bằng Chúa Thánh Linh và lửa. Người cao quý hơn tôi vô cùng, tôi không đáng mở quai dépcho Người.

17Người sẽ sảy lúa thật sạch, đem trữ lúa vào kho, và đốt rơm rác trong lò lửa chẳng hề tắt.”

18Giăng còn dùng nhiều lời khuyến cáo khác mà công bố Phúc Âm.

19Giăng còn công khai chỉ trích Hê-rốt An-ti-pa, vua chư hầu, vì vua cưới em dâu là Hê-rô-đia, vợ của em mình, và làm nhiều việc gian ác.

20Hê-rốt còn làm thêm một điều ác nữa là bắt Giăng giam vào ngục.

Chúa Giê-xu Chịu Báp-tem

21Khi toàn dân đều được báp-tem, Chúa Giê-xu cũng chịu báp-tem. Lúc Ngài đang cầu nguyện, bầu trời mở ra,

22Chúa Thánh Linh lấy hình chim bồ câu ngự xuống trên Ngài, và có tiếng từ trời tuyên phán: “Con là Con yêu dấu của Ta, làm hài lòng Ta hoàn toàn.”

Gia Phả Chúa Giê-xu

23Khi Chúa Giê-xu bắt đầu chức vụ, tuổi Ngài khoảng ba mươi. Người ta tin Chúa Giê-xu là con Giô-sép. Giô-sép con Hê-li.

24Hê-li con Mát-tát. Mát-tát con Lê-vi. Lê-vi con Mên-chi. Mên-chi con Gia-ne. Gia-ne con Giô-sép.

25Giô-sép con Ma-ta-thia. Ma-ta-thia con A-mốt. A-mốt con Na-hum. Na-hum con Ếch-li. Ếch-li con Na-ghê.

26Na-ghê con Ma-át. Ma-át con Ma-ta-thia. Ma-ta-thia con Sê-mê-in. Sê-mê-in con Giô-sếch. Giô-sếch con Giô-đa.

27Giô-đa con Giô-a-nan. Giô-a-nan con Rê-sa. Rê-sa con Xô-rô-ba-bên. Xô-rô-ba-bên con Sa-la-thi-ên. Sa-la-thi-ên con Nê-ri.

28Nê-ri con Mên-chi. Mên-chi con A-đi. A-đi con Cô-sam. Cô-sam con Ên-ma-đan. Ên-ma-đan con Ê-rơ.

29Ê-rơ con Giô-suê. Giô-suê con Ê-li-ê-se. Ê-li-ê-se con Giô-rim. Giô-rim con Mát-thát. Mát-thát con Lê-vi.

30Lê-vi con Si-mê-ôn. Si-mê-ôn con Giu-đa. Giu-đa con Giô-sép. Giô-sép con Giô-nam. Giô-nam con Ê-li-a-kim.

31Ê-li-a-kim con Mê-lê-a. Mê-lê-a con Mên-na. Mên-na con Mát-ta-tha. Mát-ta-tha con Na-than. Na-than con Đa-vít.

32Đa-vít con Gie-sê. Gie-sê con Ô-bết. Ô-bết con Bô-ô. Bô-ô con Sa-la. Sa-la con Na-ách-son.

33Na-ách-son con A-mi-na-đáp. A-mi-na-đáp con Át-min. Át-min con A-rơ-ni. A-rơ-ni con Ếch-rôm. Ếch-rôm con Pha-rê. Pha-rê con Giu-đa.

34Giu-đa con Gia-cốp. Gia-cốp con Y-sác. Y-sác con Áp-ra-ham. Áp-ra-ham con Tha-rê. Tha-rê con Na-cô.

35Na-cô con Sê-rúc. Sê-rúc con Rê-hu. Rê-hu con Bê-léc. Bê-léc con Hê-be. Hê-be con Sa-la.

36Sa-la con Cai-nam. Cai-nam con A-bác-sát. A-bác-sát con Sem. Sem con Nô-ê. Nô-ê con Lê-méc.

37Lê-méc con Mê-tu-sê-la. Mê-tu-sê-la con Hê-nóc. Hê-nóc con Gia-rết. Gia-rết con Ma-ha-la-ên. Ma-ha-la-ên con Kê-nan.

38Kê-nan con Ê-nót. Ê-nót con Sết. Sết con A-đam. A-đam con Đức Chúa Trời.
