Judges

1And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.

2And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

3And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

4¶ And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

5And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

6And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

7And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.

8And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.

9And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

10¶ And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.

11Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

12And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.

13And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.

14And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

15And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

16But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.

17Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

18¶ And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.

19And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.

20Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.

21Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

22And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.

23So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

24And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

1Sau khi Ê-hút đã qua đời, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại làm điều ác trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va.

2Đức Giê-hô-va phó chúng vào tay Gia-bin, là vua Ca-na-an trị vì tại Hát-so. Quan thống lãnh đạo binh người là Si-sê-ra ở tại Ha-rô-sết của dân ngoại bang.

3Vua Gia-bin có chín trăm xe sắt và trong hai mươi năm, người hà hiếp dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cách hung bạo; nên Y-sơ-ra-ên kêu cầu cùng Đức Giê-hô-va.

4Trong lúc đó, Đê-bô-ra, là nữ tiên tri, vợ của Láp-bi-đốt, đoán xét dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

5Bà ở trên núi Eùp-ra-im, giữa khoảng Ra-ma và Bê-tên, dưới cây chà là Đê-bô-ra, và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lên đến cùng người, đặng nghe sự xét đoán.

6Bà sai gọi Ba-rác, con trai A-bi-nô-am, từ Kê-đe trong đất Nép-ta-li, mà nói cùng người rằng: Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã truyền lịnh nầy: Hãy chọn đem theo ngươi một vạn người trong con cháu Nép-ta-li và trong con cháu Sa-bu-lôn, mà đi thẳng đến núi Tha-bô.

7Ta sẽ khiến Si-sê-ra, là thống lãnh đạo binh vua Gia-bin, đến cùng người tại khe Ki-sôn, luôn với các xe cộ và cả quân lính của hắn; ta sẽ phó hắn vào tay ngươi.

8Ba-rác đáp rằng: Nếu bà đi với tôi, thì tôi sẽ đi; nhưng nếu bà không đi với tôi, tôi sẽ không đi.

9Bà bèn đáp: ã, phải, ta sẽ đi với ngươi, song sự vinh hiển của việc nầy sẽ chẳng về ngươi; vì Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ phó Si-sê-ra vào tay một người nữ. Vậy, Đê-bô-ra đứng dậy, đi cùng Ba-rác đến Kê-đe.

10Ba-rác nhóm hiệp người Sa-bu-lôn và người Nép-ta-li tại Kê-đe, có một muôn người đi theo sau người, và Đê-bô-ra cũng đi lên với người.

11Vả, Hê-be, người Kê-nít, đã lìa khỏi dân Kê-nít, là con cháu Hô-báp, anh em vợ của Môi-se, và đi dựng trại mình ở về cây dẻ bộp Sa-na-im, gần bên Kê-đe.

12Người ta thuật cho Si-sê-ra hay rằng Ba-rác, con trai của A-bi-nô-am, đã đi đến núi Tha-bô.

13Si-sê-ra bèn nhóm hiệp hết thảy xe cộ sắt mình là chín trăm cái bằng sắt, và toàn quân binh vẫn ở với mình, từ Ha-rô-sết về dân ngoại bang cho đến khe Ki-sôn.

14Đê-bô-ra nói cùng Ba-rác rằng: Hãy đứng dậy, vì nầy là ngày Đức Giê-hô-va phó Si-sê-ra vào tay ngươi. Đức Giê-hô-va há chẳng đi đằng trước ngươi sao? Rồi Ba-rác đi xuống Tha-bô, có mười ngàn người theo sau.

15Đức Giê-hô-va dùng mũi gươm làm cho Si-sê-ra và hết thảy xe cộ cùng toàn quân lính người vỡ chạy trước mặt Ba-rác; Si-sê-ra bèn xuống xe mình, chạy bộ mà trốn.

16Ba-rác đuổi theo xe cộ và đạo binh cho đến Ha-rô-sết về dân ngoại bang; cả đạo binh Si-sê-ra bị gươm giết, không còn lại một người.

17Si-sê-ra chạy bộ trốn đến trại Gia-ên, vợ của Hê-be, người Kê-nít; vì Gia-bin, vua Hát-so, và nhà Hê-be, người Kê-nít, hòa hảo với nhau.

18Gia-ên ra đón Si-sê-ra, mà nói rằng: Hỡi chúa, xin hãy vào nơi nhà tôi, chớ sợ chi. Vậy, người vào trại nàng, và nàng lấy mền đắp người lại.

19Đoạn, người nói cùng nàng rằng: Ta xin nàng cho ta chút nước uống, vì ta khát. Nàng bèn mở bầu sữa ra, cho người uống, rồi trùm người lại.

20Người lại nói cùng nàng rằng: Hãy đứng nơi cửa trại, nếu có ai đến hỏi rằng: ỳ đây có ai chăng? thì hãy đáp: Chẳng có ai hết.

21Bấy giờ người ngủ say, vì mệt nhọc quá; Gia-ên, vợ Hê-be, bèn lấy một cây nọc trại, và tay nắm cái búa, nhẹ nhẹ đến bên người, lấy cái nọc đóng thủng màng tang người, thấu xuống đất, và người chết đi.

22Ba-rác đang còn rượt theo Si-sê-ra, Gia-ên bèn ra đón người, mà nói rằng: Hãy đến, tôi sẽ chỉ cho ông thấy người mà ông đang tìm kiếm. Ba-rác vào nhà nàng, thấy Si-sê-ra nằm chết sải, có nọc đâm nơi màng tang.

23Trong ngày đó, Đức Chúa Trời khiến cho Gia-bin, vua Ca-na-an, bị phục trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

24Tay dân Y-sơ-ra-ên càng ngày càng mạnh thắng Gia-bin, vua Ca-na-an, cho đến chừng chúng đã diệt người đi.
