Acts

1And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles.

2And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

3As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

4Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

5Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

6And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8And there was great joy in that city.

9But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

10To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

12But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

13Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

14Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

22Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

25And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

26And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.

1Sau-lơ vốn ưng thuận về sự Ê-tiên bị giết. Trong lúc đó, Hội thánh ở thành Giê-ru-sa-lem gặp cơn bắt bớ dữ tợn; trừ ra các sứ đồ, còn hết thảy tín đồ đều phải chạy tan lạc trong các miền Giu-đê và xứ Sa-ma-ri.

2Dầu vậy, có mấy người tin kính chôn xác Ê-tiên và than khóc người quá bội.

3Nhưng Sau-lơ làm tàn hại Hội thánh: sấn vào các nhà, dùng sức mạnh bắt đàn ông đàn bà mà bỏ tù.

4Vậy, những kẻ đã bị tan lạc đi từ nơi nầy đến nơi khác, truyền giảng đạo Tin Lành.

5Phi-líp cũng vậy, xuống trong thành Sa-ma-ri mà giảng về Đấng Christ tại đó.

6Đoàn dân nghe người giảng và thấy các phép lạ người làm, thì đồng lòng lắng tai nghe người nói;

7vì có những tà ma kêu lớn tiếng lên mà ra khỏi nhiều kẻ bị ám, cùng kẻ bại và què được chữa lành cũng nhiều.

8Tại cớ đó, trong thành được vui mừng khôn xiết.

9Bấy giờ trong thành đó có một người tên là Si-môn, làm nghề phù phép, tự khoe mình là một người danh tiếng, khiến cho dân Sa-ma-ri rất lấy làm lạ lùng.

10Hết thảy từ trẻ đến già đều nghe theo người, mà nói rằng: Chính người là quyền phép của Đức Chúa Trời, tức là quyền phép lớn như thường gọi vậy.

11Nhân đó chúng nghe theo người, vì đã lâu nay người lấy phù phép giục họ thảy đều phải khen lạ.

12Nhưng khi chúng đã tin Phi-líp, là người rao giảng Tin Lành của nước Đức Chúa Trời và danh Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ cho mình, thì cả đàn ông, đàn bà đều chịu phép báp-tem.

13Chính Si-môn cũng tin, và khi đã chịu phép báp-tem, thì ở luôn với Phi-líp; người thấy những dấu lạ phép kỳ đã làm ra, thì lấy làm lạ lắm.

14Các sứ đồ vẫn ở tại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, nghe tin xứ Sa-ma-ri đã nhận lấy đạo Đức Chúa Trời, bèn sai Phi-e-rơ và Giăng đến đó.

15Hai người tới nơi, cầu nguyện cho các môn đồ mới, để cho được nhận lấy Đức Thánh Linh.

16Vì Đức Thánh Linh chưa giáng xuống trên một ai trong bọn đó; họ chỉ nhân danh Đức Chúa Jêsus mà chịu phép báp-tem thôi.

17Phi-e-rơ và Giăng bèn đặt tay trên các môn đồ, thì đều được nhận lấy Đức Thánh Linh.

18Si-môn thấy bởi các sứ đồ đặt tay lên thì có ban Đức Thánh Linh xuống, bèn lấy bạc dâng cho, mà nói rằng:

19Cũng hãy cho tôi quyền phép ấy, để tôi đặt tay trên ai thì nấy được nhận lấy Đức Thánh Linh.

20Nhưng Phi-e-rơ trả lời rằng: Tiền bạc ngươi hãy hư mất với ngươi, vì ngươi tưởng lấy tiền bạc mua được sự ban cho của Đức Chúa Trời!

21Ngươi chẳng có phần hoặc số trong việc nầy; vì lòng ngươi chẳng ngay thẳng trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời.

22Vậy, hãy ăn năn điều ác mình, và cầu nguyện Chúa, hầu cho ý tưởng của lòng ngươi đó họa may được tha cho.

23Vì ta thấy ngươi đang ở trong mật đắng và trong xiềng tội ác.

24Si-môn trả lời rằng: Xin chính mình các ông hãy cầu nguyện Chúa cho tôi, hầu cho tôi chẳng mắc phải điều ông nói đó.

25Sau khi Phi-e-rơ và Giăng đã làm chứng và giảng đạo Chúa như thế, thì trở về thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, vừa đi vừa giảng Tin Lành trong nhiều làng của người Sa-ma-ri.

26Bấy giờ, có một thiên sứ của Chúa phán cùng Phi-líp rằng: Hãy chờ dậy đi qua phía nam, trên con đường từ thành Giê-ru-sa-lem xuống thành Ga-xa. Đường ấy vắng vẻ.

27Người chờ dậy và đi. Kìa, có một hoạn quan Ê-thi-ô-bi, làm quan hầu của Can-đác, nữ vương nước Ê-thi-ô-bi, coi sóc hết cả kho tàng bà, đã đến thành Giê-ru-sa-lem để thờ phượng,

28khi trở về, ngồi trên xe mà đọc sách tiên tri Ê-sai.

29Đức Thánh Linh phán cùng Phi-líp rằng: Hãy lại gần và theo kịp xe đó.

30Phi-líp chạy đến, nghe người Ê-thi-ô-bi đọc sách tiên tri Ê-sai, thì nói rằng: Oâng hiểu lời mình đọc đó chăng?

31Hoạn quan trả lời rằng: Nếu chẳng ai dạy cho tôi, thể nào tôi hiểu được? Người bèn mời Phi-líp lên xe ngồi kề bên.

32Vả, chỗ người đọc trong Kinh Thánh là đoạn nầy: Người đã bị kéo đi như con chiên đến hàng làm thịt, Lại như chiên con câm trước mặt kẻ hớt lông, Người chẳng mở miệng.

33Trong khi người hèn hạ thì sự đoán xét Người đã bị cất đi. Còn ai sẽ kể đời của Người? Vì sự sống Người đã bị rút khỏi đất rồi.

34Hoạn quan cất tiếng nói cùng Phi-líp rằng: Tôi xin hỏi ông, đấng tiên tri đã nói điều đó về ai? Có phải nói về chính mình người chăng, hay là về người nào khác?

35Phi-líp bèn mở miệng, bắt đầu từ chỗ Kinh Thánh đó mà rao giảng Đức Chúa Jêsus cho người.

36Hai người đang đi dọc đường, gặp chỗ có nước, hoạn quan nói rằng: Nầy, nước đây, có sự gì ngăn cấm tôi chịu phép báp-tem chăng?

37Phi-líp nói: Nếu ông hết lòng tin, điều đó có thể được. Hoạn quan trả lời rằng: Tôi tin rằng Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ là Con Đức Chúa Trời.

38Người biểu dừng xe lại; rồi cả hai đều xuống nước, và Phi-líp làm phép báp-tem cho hoạn quan.

39Khi ở dưới nước lên, thì Thánh Linh của Chúa đem Phi-líp đi; hoạn quan chẳng thấy người nữa, cứ hớn hở đi đường.

40Còn Phi-líp thì người ta thấy ở trong thành A-xốt; từ đó người đi đến thành Sê-sa-rê, cũng giảng Tin Lành khắp những thành nào mình đã ghé qua.
