Isaiah

1Woe to the rebellious children, saith Jehovah, that take counsel, but not of me; and that make a league, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin,

2that set out to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!

3Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

4For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors are come to Hanes.

5They shall all be ashamed because of a people that cannot profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

6The burden of the beasts of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

7For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I called her Rahab that sitteth still.

8Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever.

9For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of Jehovah;

10that say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits,

11get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

12Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely thereon;

13therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly in an instant.

14And he shall break it as a potter’s vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing; so that there shall not be found among the pieces thereof a sherd wherewith to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.

15For thus said the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. And ye would not:

16but ye said, No, for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

17One thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on a hill.

18And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for Jehovah is a God of justice; blessed are all they that wait for him.

19For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; thou shalt weep no more; he will surely be gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear, he will answer thee.

20And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be hidden anymore, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers;

21and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

22And ye shall defile the overlaying of thy graven images of silver, and the plating of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as an unclean thing; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.

23And he will give the rain for thy seed, wherewith thou shalt sow the ground; and bread of the increase of the ground, and it shall be fat and plenteous. In that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures;

24the oxen likewise and the young asses that till the ground shall eat savory provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork.

25And there shall be upon every lofty mountain, and upon every high hill, brooks and streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

26Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that Jehovah bindeth up the hurt of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

27Behold, the name of Jehovah cometh from far, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire;

28and his breath is as an overflowing stream, that reacheth even unto the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction: and a bridle that causeth to err shall be in the jaws of the peoples.

29Ye shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel.

30And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones.

31For through the voice of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be dismayed; with his rod will he smite him.

32And every stroke of the appointed staff, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, shall be with the sound of tabrets and harps; and in battles with the brandishing of his arm will he fight with them.

33For a Topheth is prepared of old; yea, for the king it is made ready; he hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

1Đức Giê-hô-va phán: Khốn thay cho con cái bội nghịch, lập mưu chẳng bởi ý ta, kết ước chẳng cậy Thần ta, hầu cho thêm tội trên tội;

2chúng nó chưa hỏi miệng ta, đã khởi đi xuống Ê-díp-tô, để cậy sức mạnh của Pha-ra-ôn mà thêm sức cho mình, và núp dưới bóng Ê-díp-tô!

3Cho nên sức mạnh của Pha-ra-ôn sẽ làm sỉ nhục các ngươi, nơi ẩn náu dưới bóng Ê-díp-tô sẽ trở nên sự xấu hổ các ngươi.

4Các quan trưởng dân nó đã tới Xô-an, sứ giả đã đến Ha-ne;

5hết thảy sẽ mắc cỡ vì một dân kia chẳng làm ích chi cho mình, chẳng cứu giúp cũng chẳng làm lợi, song làm cho mang hổ mang nhuốc.

6Gánh nặng về các thú vật phương nam. Trong xứ gian nan khốn khổ, tự xứ đó đến những sư tử đực, sư tử cái, rắn lục và rắn lửa bay. Chúng nó chở của cải mình trên vai lừa con, vật báu trên gu lạc đà, đặng dâng cho một dân tộc chẳng làm ích gì được hết.

7Sự cứu giúp của người Ê-díp-tô chẳng qua là hư không vô ích, nên ta đặt tên nó là Ra-háp, ngồi yên chẳng động.

8Bây giờ, ngươi hãy đi, chạm lời nầy trên bảng nhỏ ở trước mặt họ, hãy chép vào sách, để truyền lại đời sau, mãi mãi không cùng.

9Dân nầy là bội nghịch, là con cái nói dối, con cái không muốn nghe luật pháp Đức Giê-hô-va;

10nói với kẻ tiên kiến rằng: Đừng tiên kiến làm chi! nói với kẻ tiên tri rằng: Đừng nói tiên tri về lẽ thật! Hãy nói cho chúng tôi những điều vui thú, hãy lấy những sự huyễn hoặc bảo chúng tôi!

11Hãy lìa khỏi đường, bỏ khỏi lối, cất Đấng Thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên khỏi mặt chúng tôi!

12Vậy nên, Đấng Thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như vầy: Vì các ngươi khinh bỏ lời nầy, cậy điều bạo ngược và trái nghịch, mà nương-nhờ những sự ấy,

13bởi cớ đó, tội các ngươi như tường nẻ sắp vỡ, lồi ra trên cao, chỉ trong giây phút sẽ thình lình đổ xuống.

14Ngài sẽ đập bể nó như cái bình thợ gốm bị bể ra, bể ra từng miếng, chẳng tiếc gì; đến nỗi trong những miếng mẻ nó, sẽ chẳng tìm được một mảnh nào để lấy lửa nơi bếp hay là múc nước nơi hồ.

15Vả, Chúa Giê-hô-va, là Đấng Thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên, có phán như vầy: Các ngươi sẽ được rỗi, là tại trở lại và yên nghỉ; các ngươi sẽ được sức mạnh, là tại yên lặng và trông cậy. Nhưng các ngươi đã không muốn thế!

16Các ngươi nói rằng: Không; chúng tôi sẽ cỡi ngựa chạy trốn! ã phải, các ngươi sẽ phải chạy trốn. Chúng tôi cỡi ngựa chạy mau! ã phải, những kẻ đuổi theo các ngươi cũng sẽ chạy mau!

17Một người dọa, ngàn người đi trốn; năm người dọa, các ngươi đều đi trốn, cho đến chừng nào các ngươi còn sót lại như cây vọi trên đỉnh núi, như cờ xí trên gò.

18Dầu vậy, Đức Giê-hô-va còn chờ đợi để làm ơn cho các ngươi; Ngài sẽ được tôn lên mà thương xót các ngươi; vì Giê-hô-va là Đức Chúa Trời công nghĩa. Phước thay cho mọi kẻ trông đợi Ngài!

19Vì dân nầy sẽ ở trong Si-ôn nơi Giê-ru-sa-lem; ngươi chẳng còn khóc lóc nữa. Khi ngươi kêu, Ngài chắc sẽ làm ơn; mới vừa nghe ngươi, Ngài liền nhậm lời.

20Dầu Chúa ban bánh hoạn nạn và nước khốn khó cho các ngươi, các thầy giáo ngươi sẽ chẳng lẩn khuất nữa, mắt ngươi sẽ được thấy các thầy giáo ngươi.

21Khi các ngươi xê qua bên hữu hoặc bên tả, tai các ngươi sẽ nghe có tiếng đằng sau mình rằng: Nầy là đường đây, hãy noi theo!

22Các ngươi sẽ lấy bạc bọc tượng chạm, lấy vàng thếp tượng đúc của mình làm ô uế, mà ném ra xa như đồ dơ bẩn, và bảo nó rằng: Hãy ra khỏi đây!

23Chúa sẽ khiến mưa xuống trên giống các ngươi gieo ở đất; bánh lương thực từ đất sanh sản sẽ màu mỡ và dư dật; trong ngày đó, súc vật các ngươi sẽ ăn cỏ nơi đồng rộng.

24Bò và lừa con cày ruộng sẽ ăn thóc ngon mà người ta dê bằng mủng với nia.

25Đến ngày chém giết lớn, khi đồn lũy đổ xuống, thì trên mọi núi cao đồi cả sẽ có những suối nước chảy.

26Sáng mặt trăng sẽ chói lói như sáng mặt trời, và sự sáng mặt trời sẽ lớn hơn bảy lần, như vốn là sự sáng của bảy ngày, trong ngày Đức Giê-hô-va buộc dấu vít của dân Ngài, và chữa lành vết thương nó.

27Nầy, danh Đức Giê-hô-va từ xa mà đến; cơn giận phừng phừng, như khói đậm bay lên, môi đầy thạnh nộ, lưỡi giống như lửa nuốt.

28Hơi thở Ngài khác nào sông vỡ lở, nước lên ngập đến cổ. Ngài lấy cái sàng hủy diệt mà sàng các nước, và dùng cái khớp dẫn đi lạc đường mà khớp hàm các dân.

29Bấy giờ các ngươi sẽ xướng ca như trong đêm giữ lễ thánh. Các ngươi sẽ có sự vui trong lòng, như kẻ thổi sáo mà lên núi Đức Giê-hô-va, đến cùng vầng Đá của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

30Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ làm cho nghe tiếng oai nghiêm Ngài. Ngài sẽ tỏ cánh tay hăm dọa của mình ra, giữa cơn giận Ngài, những ngọn lửa nuốt, gió táp, bão, và mưa đá.

31Vì, A-si-ri sẽ nghe tiếng Đức Giê-hô-va mà run sợ. Ngài sẽ lấy roi đánh A-si-ri;

32và mỗi khi Đức Giê-hô-va lấy roi định đánh nó, thì người ta sẽ nghe tiếng trống và đàn cầm; vả, trong những trận mạc Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ vung cánh tay mà tranh chiến cùng nó.

33Vì Tô-phết đã sửa soạn từ xưa; sắm sẵn cho vua. Nó sâu và rộng, trên có lửa và củi thật nhiều; hơi thở của Đức Giê-hô-va như suối lưu hoàng nhúm nó.
