Numbers

1Now this is the history of the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai.

2These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office.

4Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the presence of Aaron their father.

5The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

6“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him.

7They shall keep his requirements, and the requirements of the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.

8They shall keep all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, and the obligations of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

9You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are wholly given to him on the behalf of the children of Israel.

10You shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood, but the stranger who comes near shall be put to death.”

11The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

12“Behold,I have taken the Levites from amongst the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn who open the womb amongst the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine,

13for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I made holy to me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and animal. They shall be mine. I am the LORD.”

14The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

15“Count the children of Levi by their fathers’ houses, by their families. You shall count every male from a month old and upward.”

16Moses counted them according to the LORD’s word, as he was commanded.

17These were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

18These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei.

19The sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

20The sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ houses.

21Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimeites. These are the families of the Gershonites.

22Those who were counted of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, even those who were counted of them were seven thousand and five hundred.

23The families of the Gershonites shall encamp behind the tabernacle westward.

24Eliasaph the son of Lael shall be the prince of the fathers’ house of the Gershonites.

25The duty of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting shall be the tabernacle, the tent, its covering, the screen for the door of the Tent of Meeting,

26the hangings of the court, the screen for the door of the court which is by the tabernacle and around the altar, and its cords for all of its service.

27Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, the family of the Izharites, the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites. These are the families of the Kohathites.

28According to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand and six hundred keeping the requirements of the sanctuary.

29The families of the sons of Kohath shall encamp on the south side of the tabernacle.

30The prince of the fathers’ house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

31Their duty shall be the ark, the table, the lamp stand, the altars, the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, the screen, and all its service.

32Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be prince of the princes of the Levites, with the oversight of those who keep the requirements of the sanctuary.

33Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites. These are the families of Merari.

34Those who were counted of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, were six thousand and two hundred.

35The prince of the fathers’ house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They shall encamp on the north side of the tabernacle.

36The appointed duty of the sons of Merari shall be the tabernacle’s boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its instruments, all its service,

37the pillars of the court around it, their sockets, their pins, and their cords.

38Those who encamp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting towards the sunrise, shall be Moses, with Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The outsider who comes near shall be put to death.

39All who were counted of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron counted at the commandment of the LORD, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand.

40The LORD said to Moses, “Count all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.

41You shall take the Levites for me—I am the LORD—instead of all the firstborn amongst the children of Israel; and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn amongst the livestock of the children of Israel.”

42Moses counted, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn amongst the children of Israel.

43All the firstborn males according to the number of names from a month old and upward, of those who were counted of them, were twenty-two thousand and two hundred and seventy-three.

44The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

45“Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn amongst the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock; and the Levites shall be mine. I am the LORD.

46For the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel who exceed the number of the Levites,

47you shall take five shekels apiece for each one; according to the shekelof the sanctuary you shall take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs);

48and you shall give the money, with which their remainder is redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons.”

49Moses took the redemption money from those who exceeded the number of those who were redeemed by the Levites;

50from the firstborn of the children of Israel he took the money, one thousand and three hundred and sixty-five shekels,according to the shekel of the sanctuary;

51and Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and to his sons, according to the LORD’s word, as the LORD commanded Moses.

1Đây là dòng dõi ông A-ha-ron và ông Mô-sê vào thời ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê trên núi Xi-nai.

2Tên các con ông A-ha-ron như sau : trưởng nam là Na-đáp, rồi đến A-vi-hu, E-la-da và I-tha-ma.

3Đó là tên các con ông A-ha-ron, những tư tế đã được xức dầu tấn phong để thi hành chức vụ tư tế.

4Ông Na-đáp và ông A-vi-hu đã chết trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, vì đã dâng lửa phàm tục trước Thánh Nhan, khi còn ở sa mạc Xi-nai ; các ông không có con. Chỉ còn hai ông E-la-da và I-tha-ma thi hành chức vụ tư tế trước mặt ông A-ha-ron, thân phụ các ông.

5ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê rằng :

6“Hãy gọi chi tộc Lê-vi lại và đặt chúng túc trực bên cạnh tư tế A-ha-ron để giúp nó.

7Chúng phải đảm nhiệm công việc của nó, cũng như công việc của toàn thể cộng đồng trước Lều Hội Ngộ, để lo phục dịch Nhà Tạm.

8Chúng sẽ trông coi tất cả các vật dụng trong Lều Hội Ngộ, đồng thời đảm nhiệm công việc của con cái Ít-ra-en, để lo phục dịch Nhà Tạm.

9Ngươi hãy trao các thầy Lê-vi cho A-ha-ron và các con nó như những người được dâng hiến, những người được dâng hiến mà con cái Ít-ra-en nộp cho nó.

10Ngươi hãy đặt A-ha-ron và các con nó đảm nhận chức vụ tư tế, còn ai khác mà tới gần sẽ phải chết.”

11ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê rằng :

12“Đây, chính Ta đã chọn các thầy Lê-vi giữa con cái Ít-ra-en thay thế tất cả các trưởng nam, các con đầu lòng trong số con cái Ít-ra-en, cho nên các thầy Lê-vi thuộc về Ta.

13Thật vậy, tất cả các con đầu lòng đều thuộc về Ta, từ ngày Ta đánh phạt tất cả các con đầu lòng trong đất Ai-cập ; Ta đã thánh hiến cho Ta tất cả các con đầu lòng trong Ít-ra-en, của loài người cũng như của súc vật : chúng thuộc về Ta. Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA.”

14ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê trong sa mạc Xi-nai rằng :

15“Hãy kiểm tra con cái Lê-vi theo gia tộc và thị tộc, tất cả đàn ông con trai tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, hãy ghi số.”

16Vậy, ông Mô-sê đã kiểm tra họ theo lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA, như Người đã truyền cho ông.

17Đây là con cái Lê-vi nêu đích danh : Ghéc-sôn, Cơ-hát, Mơ-ra-ri.

18Và đây là tên con cái Ghéc-sôn theo thị tộc : Líp-ni và Sim-y.

19Con cái Cơ-hát theo thị tộc là Am-ram và Gít-ha, Khép-rôn và Út-di-ên.

20Con cái Mơ-ra-ri theo thị tộc là Mác-li và Mu-si. Đó là những thị tộc Lê-vi tính theo gia tộc họ.

21Về phần Ghéc-sôn, có thị tộc Líp-ni và thị tộc Sim-y. Đó là các thị tộc thuộc dòng họ Ghéc-sôn.

22Những người được kiểm tra, tính tất cả con trai của họ, tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, là 7.500.

23Các thị tộc thuộc dòng họ Ghéc-sôn đóng trại đằng sau Nhà Tạm, ở phía tây.

24Đứng đầu dòng họ Ghéc-sôn là En-gia-xáp, con La-ên.

25Công việc của con cháu Ghéc-sôn ở cửa Lều Hội Ngộ là trông coi Nhà Tạm và Lều, cũng như bạt che và bức màn ở lối vào Lều Hội Ngộ,

26cùng các tấm rèm che khuôn viên, bức màn ở lối vào khuôn viên bao quanh Nhà Tạm và bàn thờ, cũng như các dây thừng dùng vào việc phục dịch.

27Về phần Cơ-hát, có thị tộc Am-ram, thị tộc Gít-ha, thị tộc Khép-rôn và thị tộc Út-di-ên. Đó là các thị tộc thuộc dòng họ Cơ-hát.

28Tổng cộng tất cả con trai tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, là 8.300. Họ trông coi thánh điện.

29Các thị tộc thuộc dòng họ Cơ-hát đóng trại bên cạnh Nhà Tạm, ở phía nam.

30Đứng đầu dòng họ Cơ-hát là Ê-li-xa-phan, con của Út-di-ên.

31Công việc của họ là trông coi Hòm Bia, bàn, trụ đèn, các bàn thờ, các đồ thờ dùng trong thánh điện, bức màn, cũng như tất cả các dịch vụ liên hệ.

32Đứng đầu các thủ lãnh của các thầy Lê-vi là ông E-la-da, con tư tế A-ha-ron. Ông giám sát các nhân viên phụ trách công việc trong nơi thánh.

33Về phần Mơ-ra-ri, có thị tộc Mác-li và thị tộc Mu-si. Đó là các thị tộc thuộc dòng họ Mơ-ra-ri.

34Những người được kiểm tra, tính tất cả các con trai của họ, tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, là 6.200.

35Đứng đầu dòng họ Mơ-ra-ri là Xu-ri-ên, con A-vi-kha-gin. Họ đóng trại bên cạnh Nhà Tạm, ở phía bắc.

36Công việc của con cháu Mơ-ra-ri là trông coi các tấm ván của Nhà Tạm, các thanh ngang, các cột, đế, cũng như các đồ phụ thuộc và các dịch vụ liên hệ,

37cũng như các cột chung quanh khuôn viên cùng với các đế, cọc và dây thừng.

38Các người đóng trại trước Nhà Tạm ở phía đông, nghĩa là trước Lều Hội Ngộ, hướng mặt trời mọc, là ông Mô-sê, ông A-ha-ron và các con ông này, là những người có trách nhiệm trông coi thánh điện thay cho con cái Ít-ra-en ; còn ai khác mà tới gần sẽ phải chết.

39Tổng số những người được kiểm tra thuộc dòng họ Lê-vi, những người ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron đã theo lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA mà kiểm tra theo các thị tộc của họ, tất cả các con trai tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, là 22.000.

40ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Hãy kiểm tra tất cả các trưởng nam của con cái Ít-ra-en, tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, và lập danh sách chúng.

41Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA. Hãy dành các người Lê-vi cho Ta thay cho tất cả các trưởng nam trong số con cái Ít-ra-en, và hãy dành súc vật của các người Lê-vi thay cho tất cả các con vật đầu lòng trong đàn vật của con cái Ít-ra-en.”

42Theo như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền, ông Mô-sê kiểm tra tất cả các con đầu lòng trong số con cái Ít-ra-en.

43Tổng số các trưởng nam được ghi tên để kiểm tra, tuổi từ một tháng trở lên, là 22.273.

44ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê rằng :

45“Hãy lấy các người Lê-vi thay cho các trưởng nam của con cái Ít-ra-en, và súc vật của các người Lê-vi thay thế các súc vật của chúng : các người Lê-vi sẽ thuộc về Ta. Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA.

46Để làm giá chuộc 273 trưởng nam của con cái Ít-ra-en dôi hơn số người Lê-vi,

47ngươi sẽ lấy mỗi đầu người là mười lăm chỉ bạc, tính theo đơn vị đo lường của thánh điện.

48Ngươi sẽ đưa số bạc này cho A-ha-ron và con cái ông làm tiền chuộc số người dôi ra kể trên.”

49Ông Mô-sê đã nhận món tiền chuộc số người dôi ra mà các người Lê-vi không chuộc thay.

50Số bạc thu được của các trưởng nam trong số con cái Ít-ra-en là mười bốn ký, tính theo đơn vị đo lường của thánh điện.

51Ông Mô-sê đã trao số tiền chuộc cho ông A-ha-ron và con cái ông này theo lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA, như Người đã truyền.
