Lời của Vua Lê-mu-ên

1Châm ngôn của Vua Lê-mu-ên, domẹ vua truyền lại.

2Con ơi! Đứa con mà lòng dạ mẹ đã cưu mang,đứa con mà mẹ đã khấn hứa,

3đừng vì đàn bà mà tiêu hao năng lực,đừng theo vết xe đổ của các vua chúa.

4Lê-mu-ên, con ơi, vua chúa không nên ham rượu.Các quan chức đừng đam mê thức uống có men.

5Uống vào, con sẽ quên hết luật lệ,xâm phạm quyền lợi, công lý của người cùng khổ.

6Hãy đem chất men cho người hấp hốivà đem rượu cho người có tâm hồn sầu thảm.

7Họ uống cho quên đi nỗi khổ,và cũng chẳng bận tâm đến mọi mối sầu.

8Hãy lên tiếng bênh vực người cô thế;và biện hộ cho quyền lợi của người bất hạnh.

9Con hãy phán xét công minh,bảo đảm công lý cho người nghèo yếu.

10Một người vợ hiền đức, ai có thể tìm được?Giá trị nàng còn quý hơn châu ngọc.

11Nàng được chồng tín nhiệm,và thu hoa lợi không thiếu thốn.

12Nàng chẳng làm thương tổn,nhưng suốt đời đem hạnh phước cho chồng.

13Nàng bận bịu quay sợi,dệt dạ và vải gai.

14Nàng giống như con tàuchở thực phẩm về từ xa.

15Thức giấc khi trời chưa sáng,nàng sửa soạn thức ăn cho gia đình, sắp đặt công việc cho các tớ gái.

16Nàng lưu ý một thửa ruộng và mua nó,với lợi tức làm ra, nàng lập một vườn nho.

17Nàng đảm đang, chịu khó,và hết sức làm công việc gia đình.

18Thức làm việc đến khuya;theo dõi giá hàng hóa, để mua bán kịp thời.

19Nàng tra tay vào guồng kéo sợi,nàng cần cù kéo chỉ dệt tơ.

20Nàng đưa tay giúp người khốn khó,rộng rãi chăm lo, giúp đỡ người nghèo.

21Không sợ gia đình gặp tuyết giá,vì sắm sẵn áo ấm bằng dạ.

22Nàng dệt lấy chăn mền,áo xống nàng bằng vải gai mịn.

23Chồng nàng được nổi danh,thuộc hàng nhân vật cao cấp trong xứ.

24Nàng sản xuất áo quần,đem bán cho con buôn.

25Là người có nghị lực và duyên dáng,nàng hớn hở nhìn vào tương lai tươi sáng.

26Nàng ăn nói khôn ngoan,lấy nhân từ làm kim chỉ nam.

27Nàng chăm sóc mọi việc trong nhà,không bao giờ biếng nhác.

28Con cái chúc nàng hạnh phước.Chồng nàng tấm tắc ngợi khen:

29“Có nhiều phụ nữ tài đức,nhưng nàng trỗi hơn tất cả.”

30Duyên dáng thường giả trá, sắc đẹp cũng tàn phai;nhưng ai kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ được ngợi ca mãi.

31Cùng được hưởng thành quả của công việc do tay mình làm ra.Nàng đáng được ca ngợi giữa nơi công cộng.

1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

5Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

7Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

8Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

9Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

10¶ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

14She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

16She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
