Chúa Giê-xu và Giăng Báp-tít

1Dặn bảo mười hai sứ đồ xong, Chúa Giê-xu đi vào các thành phố miền đó giảng dạy.

2Giăng Báp-tít ở trong tù, nghe mọi việc Chúa Cứu Thế đã làm, liền sai các môn đệ mình đến hỏi Chúa:

3“Thầy có phải là Chúa Cứu Thế không? Hay chúng tôi còn phải chờ đợi Đấng khác?”

4Chúa Giê-xu đáp: “Cứ về thuật lại cho Giăng mọi việc anh chị em chứng kiến tại đây:

5Người khiếm thị được thấy, người què được đi, người phong được sạch, người điếc được nghe, người chết sống lại, và người nghèo được nghe giảng Phúc Âm.

6Cũng nhắn cho Giăng lời này: ‘Phước cho người nào không nghi ngờ Ta.’”

7Sau khi môn đệ Giăng đi khỏi, Chúa Giê-xu nói về Giăng với dân chúng: “Khi vào tìm Giăng trong đồng hoang, anh chị em mong sẽ gặp một người như thế nào? Người yếu ớt như lau sậy ngả theo chiều gió?

8Hay người ăn mặc sang trọng? Không, người ăn mặc sang trọng chỉ sống trong cung điện.

9Hay anh chị em đi tìm một nhà tiên tri? Đúng, Giăng chẳng những là nhà tiên tri mà còn quan trọng hơn nữa!

10Vì Thánh Kinh đã chép về Giăng:‘Này Ta sai sứ giả Ta đi trước Con,người sẽ dọn đường cho Con.’

11Ta nói quả quyết, trong đời này chẳng có ai lớn hơn Giăng, nhưng trong Nước Trời, người nhỏ nhất còn lớn hơn Giăng!

12Từ khi Giăng truyền giảng và làm báp-tem đến nay, có vô số người nhiệt thành lũ lượt vào Nước Trời,

13vì tất cả luật pháp và lời tiên tri đều được công bố cho đến thời đại Giăng.

14Nói rõ hơn, Giăng chính là Ê-li mà các tiên tri loan báo sẽ đến vào giai đoạn khởi đầu.

15Ai có tai để nghe, nên lắng nghe!

16Ta có thể so sánh thế hệ này với ai? Họ giống như đám trẻ chơi ngoài phố trách nhau:

17‘Bọn tao diễn trò vui,bay không thích,mà diễn trò buồn,bay cũng không ưa!’

18Thấy Giăng thường nhịn ăn, nhịn uống, họ bảo: ‘Ông ấy bị quỷ ám!’

19Thấy Con Người ăn uống, họ lại chỉ trích: ‘Người này ham ăn mê uống, kết bạn với bọn người thu thuế và tội lỗi’. Nhưng phải chờ xem kết quả, mới biết thế nào là khôn ngoan thật!”

Sự Phán Xét cho Người Không Tin

20Rồi Chúa Giê-xu khởi sự lên án những thành phố đã chứng kiến rất nhiều phép lạ Chúa làm, nhưng vẫn ngoan cố không chịu ăn năn quay về với Đức Chúa Trời:

21“Khốn cho thành Cô-ra-xin, khốn cho thành Bết-sai-đa! Vì nếu các phép lạ Ta làm nơi đây được thực hiện tại thành Ty-rơ và thành Si-đôn, dân hai thành ấy hẳn đã mặc áo gai, rải tro lên đầu tỏ lòng ăn năn từ lâu rồi!

22Đến ngày phán xét cuối cùng, Ty-rơ và Si-đôn còn đáng được dung thứ hơn Cô-ra-xin và Bết-sai-đa!

23Còn thành Ca-bê-na-um được đem lên tận trời sao? Không, nó sẽ bị ném xuống hỏa ngục! Vì nếu các phép lạ Ta làm tại đây được thực hiện tại thành Sô-đôm, hẳn thành ấy còn tồn tại đến ngày nay.

24Đến ngày phán xét cuối cùng, Sô-đôm còn đáng được dung thứ hơn Ca-bê-na-um!”

Đến với Chúa Sẽ Được Nghỉ Ngơi

25Lúc ấy, Chúa Giê-xu cầu nguyện: “Thưa Cha, là Chúa Tể vũ trụ, Con tạ ơn Cha, vì đối với người tự cho là khôn ngoan, Cha đã giấu kín chân lý để tiết lộ cho con trẻ biết.

26Thưa Cha, việc ấy đã làm Cha hài lòng!

27Cha Ta đã giao hết mọi việc cho Ta. Chỉ một mình Cha biết Con, cũng chỉ một mình Con—và những người được Con tiết lộ—biết Cha mà thôi.”

28Rồi Chúa Giê-xu phán: “Hãy đến với Ta, những ai đang nhọc mệt và nặng gánh ưu tư, Ta sẽ cho các con được nghỉ ngơi.

29Ta có lòng khiêm tốn, dịu dàng; hãy mang ách với Ta và học theo Ta, các con sẽ được an nghỉ trong tâm hồn.

30Vì ách Ta êm dịu và gánh Ta nhẹ nhàng.”

1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

4Jesus answered and said unto them,Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

7¶ And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John,What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

9But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16¶ But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

17And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

20¶ Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

25¶ At that time Jesus answered and said,I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28¶ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
