1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3And said,Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

7¶ Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

8Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

9And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

10Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

11For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

12How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

13And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

14Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

15¶ Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

18Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

21¶ Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22Jesus saith unto him,I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

23¶ Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

25But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

27Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

1Lúc ấy, các môn đệ lại gần hỏi Đức Giê-su rằng : “Thưa Thầy, ai là người lớn nhất trong Nước Trời ?”

2Đức Giê-su liền gọi một em nhỏ đến, đặt vào giữa các ông

3và bảo : “Thầy bảo thật anh em : nếu anh em không trở lại mà nên như trẻ nhỏ, thì sẽ chẳng được vào Nước Trời.

4“Vậy ai tự hạ, coi mình như em nhỏ này, người ấy sẽ là người lớn nhất Nước Trời.

5“Còn ai tiếp đón một em nhỏ như em này vì danh Thầy, là tiếp đón chính Thầy.

6Nhưng ai làm cớ cho một trong những kẻ bé mọn đang tin Thầy đây phải sa ngã, thì thà treo cối đá lớn vào cổ nó mà xô cho chìm xuống đáy biển còn hơn.

7Khốn cho thế gian, vì làm cớ cho người ta sa ngã. Tất nhiên phải có những cớ gây sa ngã, nhưng khốn cho kẻ làm cớ cho người ta sa ngã.

8“Nếu tay hoặc chân anh làm cớ cho anh sa ngã, thì hãy chặt mà ném đi ; thà cụt tay cụt chân mà được vào cõi sống, còn hơn là có đủ hai tay hai chân mà bị ném vào lửa đời đời.

9Nếu mắt anh làm cớ cho anh sa ngã, thì hãy móc mà ném đi ; thà chột mắt mà được vào cõi sống, còn hơn là có đủ hai mắt mà bị ném vào lửa hoả ngục.

10“Anh em hãy coi chừng, chớ khinh một ai trong những kẻ bé mọn này ; quả thật, Thầy nói cho anh em biết : các thiên thần của họ ở trên trời không ngừng chiêm ngưỡng nhan Cha Thầy, Đấng ngự trên trời. \[

11Vì Con Người đến để cứu cái gì đã hư mất].

12“Anh em nghĩ sao ? Ai có một trăm con chiên mà có một con đi lạc, lại không để chín mươi chín con kia trên núi mà đi tìm con chiên lạc sao ?

13Và nếu may mà tìm được, thì Thầy bảo thật anh em, người ấy vui mừng vì con chiên đó, hơn là vì chín mươi chín con không bị lạc.

14Cũng vậy, Cha của anh em, Đấng ngự trên trời, không muốn cho một ai trong những kẻ bé mọn này phải hư mất.

15“Nếu người anh em của anh trót phạm tội, thì anh hãy đi sửa lỗi nó, một mình anh với nó mà thôi. Nếu nó chịu nghe anh, thì anh đã chinh phục được người anh em.

16Còn nếu nó không chịu nghe, thì hãy đem theo một hay hai người nữa, để *mọi công việc được giải quyết, căn cứ vào lời hai hoặc ba chứng nhân.*

17Nếu nó không nghe họ, thì hãy đi thưa Hội Thánh. Nếu Hội Thánh mà nó cũng chẳng nghe, thì hãy kể nó như một người ngoại hay một người thu thuế.

18“Thầy bảo thật anh em : Dưới đất, anh em cầm buộc những điều gì, trên trời cũng cầm buộc như vậy ; dưới đất, anh em tháo cởi những điều gì, trên trời cũng tháo cởi như vậy.

19“Thầy còn bảo thật anh em : Nếu ở dưới đất, hai người trong anh em hợp lời cầu xin bất cứ điều gì, thì Cha Thầy, Đấng ngự trên trời, sẽ ban cho.

20Vì ở đâu có hai ba người họp lại nhân danh Thầy, thì có Thầy ở đấy, giữa họ.”

21Bấy giờ, ông Phê-rô đến gần Đức Giê-su mà hỏi rằng : “Thưa Thầy, nếu anh em con cứ xúc phạm đến con, thì con phải tha đến mấy lần ? Có phải bảy lần không ?”

22Đức Giê-su đáp : “Thầy không bảo là đến bảy lần, nhưng là đến bảy mươi lần bảy.”

23“Vì thế, Nước Trời cũng giống như chuyện một ông vua kia muốn đòi các đầy tớ của mình thanh toán sổ sách.

24Khi nhà vua vừa bắt đầu, thì người ta dẫn đến một kẻ mắc nợ vua mười ngàn yến vàng.

25Y không có gì để trả, nên tôn chủ ra lệnh bán y cùng tất cả vợ con, tài sản mà trả nợ.

26Bấy giờ, tên đầy tớ ấy sấp mình xuống bái lạy : ‘Thưa Ngài, xin rộng lòng hoãn lại cho tôi, tôi sẽ lo trả hết.’

27Tôn chủ của tên đầy tớ ấy liền chạnh lòng thương, cho y về và tha luôn món nợ.

28Nhưng vừa ra đến ngoài, tên đầy tớ ấy gặp một người đồng bạn, mắc nợ y một trăm quan tiền. Y liền túm lấy, bóp cổ mà bảo : ‘Trả nợ cho tao !’

29Bấy giờ, người đồng bạn sấp mình xuống năn nỉ : ‘Thưa anh, xin rộng lòng hoãn lại cho tôi, tôi sẽ lo trả anh.’

30Nhưng y không chịu, cứ tống anh ta vào ngục cho đến khi trả xong nợ.

31Thấy sự việc xảy ra như vậy, các đồng bạn của y buồn lắm, mới đi trình bày với tôn chủ đầu đuôi câu chuyện.

32Bấy giờ, tôn chủ cho đòi y đến và bảo : ‘Tên đầy tớ độc ác kia, ta đã tha hết số nợ ấy cho ngươi, vì ngươi đã van xin ta,

33thì đến lượt ngươi, ngươi không phải thương xót đồng bạn, như chính ta đã thương xót ngươi sao ?’

34Rồi tôn chủ nổi cơn thịnh nộ, trao y cho lính hành hạ, cho đến ngày y trả hết nợ cho ông.

35Ấy vậy, Cha của Thầy ở trên trời cũng sẽ đối xử với anh em như thế, nếu mỗi người trong anh em không hết lòng tha thứ cho anh em mình.”
