1And it came to pass at that time, that Amraphel king of Sennaar, and Arioch king of Pontus, and Chodorlahomor king of the Elamites, and Thadal king of nations,

2Made war against Bara king of Sodom, and against Bersa king of Gomorrha, and against Sennaab king of Adama, and against Semeber king of Seboim, and against the king of Bala, which is Segor.

3All these came together into the woodland vale, which now is the salt sea.

4For they had served Chodorlahomor twelve years, and in the thirteenth year they revolted from him.

5And in the fourteenth year came Chodorlahomor, and the kings that were with him: and they smote the Raphaim in Astarothcarnaim, and the Zuzim with them, and the Emim in Save of Cariathaim.

6And the Chorreans in the mountains of Seir, even to the plains of Pharan, which is in the wilderness.

7And they returned, and came to the fountain of Misphat, the same is Cades: and they smote all the country of the Amalecites, and the Amorrhean that dwelt in Asasonthamar.

8And the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrha, and the king of Adama, and the king of Seboim, and the king of Bala, which is Segor, went out: and they set themselves against them in battle array in the woodland vale:

9To wit, against Chodorlahomor king of the Elamites, and Thadal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Sennaar, and Arioch king of Pontus: four kings against five.

10Now the woodland vale had many pits of slime. And the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrha turned their backs and were overthrown there: and they that remained fled to the mountain.

11And they took all the substance of the Sodomites, and Gomorrhites, and all their victuals, and went their way:

12And Lot also, the son of Abram’s brother, who dwelt in Sodom, and his substance.

13And behold one that had escaped told Abram the Hebrew, who dwelt in the vale of Mambre the Amorrhite, the brother of Escol, and the brother of Aner: for these had made league with Abram.

14Which when Abram had heard, to wit, that his brother Lot was taken, he numbered of the servants born in his house, three hundred and eighteen well appointed: and pursued them to Dan.

15And dividing his company, he rushed upon them in the night: and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hoba, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16And he brought back all the substance, and Lot his brother, with his substance, the women also and the people.

17And the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after he returned from the slaughter of Chodorlahomor, and of the kings that were with him in the vale of Save, which is the king’s vale.

18But Melchisedech the king of Salem, bringing forth bread and wine, for he was the priest of the most high God,

19Blessed him, and said: Blessed be Abram by the most high God, who created heaven and earth.

20And blessed be the most high God, by whose protection the enemies are in thy hands. And he gave him the tithes of all.

21And the king of Sodom said to Abram: Give me the persons, and the rest take to thyself.

22And he answered him: I lift up my hand to the Lord God the most high, the possessor of heaven and earth,

23That from the very woof thread unto the shoe latchet, I will not take of any things that are thine, lest thou say I have enriched Abram:

24Except such things as the young men have eaten, and the shares of the men that came with me, Aner, Escol, and Mambre: these shall take their shares.

1Thời Am-ra-phen làm vua Sin-a, A-ri-ốc làm vua En-la-xa, Cơ-đo-la-ô-me làm vua Ê-lam và Tít-an làm vua Gô-gim,

2các vua này đánh nhau với Be-ra vua Xơ-đôm, Bia-sa vua Gô-mô-ra, Sin-áp vua Át-ma, Sem-ê-ve vua Xơ-vô-gim, và vua thành Be-la, tức là thành Xô-a.

3Tất cả các vua vừa nói tập trung về thung lũng Xít-đim, tức là Biển Muối.

4Trong vòng mười hai năm, họ đã làm tôi vua Cơ-đo-la-ô-me, nhưng đến năm thứ mười ba thì họ nổi loạn.

5Năm thứ mười bốn, vua Cơ-đo-la-ô-me đến, cùng với các vua về phe ông. Họ đánh bại người Ra-pha tại Át-ta-rốt Các-na-gim, người Du-dim tại Ham, người Ê-mim tại Sa-vê Kia-gia-tha-gim

6và người Khô-ri ở vùng núi của họ tại Xê-ia, đến tận En Pa-ran, gần sa mạc.

7Rồi họ quay lại, đến Ên Mít-pát, tức là Ca-đê, và tàn phá toàn thể lãnh thổ người A-ma-lếch và cả người E-mô-ri lập cư ở Khát-xôn Ta-ma.

8Bấy giờ vua Xơ-đôm, vua Gô-mô-ra, vua Át-ma, vua Xơ-vô-gim và vua Be-la, tức là Xô-a, tiến ra và dàn trận tại thung lũng Xít-đim chống lại các vua kia :

9Cơ-đo-la-ô-me vua Ê-lam, Tít-an vua Gô-gim, Am-ra-phen vua Sin-a và A-ri-ốc vua En-la-xa, bốn vua chống lại năm vua.

10Thung lũng Xít-đim đầy những giếng nhựa đen ; trong khi chạy trốn, vua Xơ-đôm và vua Gô-mô-ra rơi xuống đó, những người còn lại thì trốn lên núi.

11Những kẻ thắng trận chiếm đoạt tất cả tài sản của Xơ-đôm và Gô-mô-ra, cũng như tất cả lương thực của họ, rồi đi.

12Họ bắt ông Lót, cháu ông Áp-ram, cùng với tài sản của ông, rồi đi ; bấy giờ ông Lót đang ở Xơ-đôm.

13Một người thoát được đến báo tin cho ông Áp-ram, người Híp-ri, bấy giờ đang ở cụm sồi của ông Mam-rê, người E-mô-ri, anh em của ông Ét-côn và ông A-ne ; họ là đồng minh của ông Áp-ram.

14Khi nghe tin người anh em họ hàng của mình bị bắt, ông Áp-ram liền huy động những người đã được tập luyện, là các tôi tớ sinh ra trong nhà ông, đến ba trăm mười tám người, và đuổi theo đến tận Đan.

15Ông và các tôi tớ của ông chia nhau ra tấn công họ vào ban đêm, đánh bại họ và đuổi theo đến tận Khô-va ở phía bắc Đa-mát.

16Ông đưa tất cả tài sản về ; ông đưa cả ông Lót, người anh em họ hàng của ông, và tài sản của ông ấy về, cũng như các phụ nữ và dân chúng.

17Sau khi đánh bại vua Cơ-đo-la-ô-me và các vua cùng phe, ông Áp-ram trở về. Bấy giờ vua thành Xơ-đôm ra đón ông tại thung lũng Sa-vê, tức là thung lũng Nhà Vua.

18Ông Men-ki-xê-đê, vua thành Sa-lem, mang bánh và rượu ra ; ông là tư tế của Thiên Chúa Tối Cao.

19chúc phúc cho Áp-ram !

20Rồi ông Áp-ram biếu ông Men-ki-xê-đê một phần mười tất cả chiến lợi phẩm.

21Vua Xơ-đôm nói với ông Áp-ram : “Người, thì xin ông cho lại tôi ; còn tài sản, ông cứ lấy.”

22Ông Áp-ram nói với vua Xơ-đôm : “Tôi xin giơ tay lên ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa Tối Cao, Đấng dựng nên trời đất, mà thề :

23‘Dù một sợi chỉ, dù một quai dép, bất cứ cái gì của ông, tôi cũng không lấy.’ Ông sẽ không có thể nói : ‘Tôi đã làm giàu cho ông Áp-ram.’

24Tôi không lấy gì cả, chỉ trừ những gì các người trai tráng của tôi đã ăn. Còn những người đã đi với tôi, là A-ne, Ét-côn và Mam-rê, họ sẽ lấy phần của họ.”
