1And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt:

2This month shall be to you the beginning of months: it shall be the first in the months of the year.

3Speak ye to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, and say to them: On the tenth day of this month let every man take a lamb by their families and houses.

4But if the number be less than may suffice to eat the lamb, he shall take unto him his neighbour that joineth to his house, according to the number of souls which may be enough to eat the lamb.

5And it shall be a lamb without blemish, a male, of one year: according to which rite also you shall take a kid.

6And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month: and the whole multitude of the children of Israel shall sacrifice it in the evening.

7And they shall take of the blood thereof, and put it upon both the side posts, and on the upper door posts of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

8And they shall eat the flesh that night roasted at the fire, and unleavened bread with wild lettuce.

9You shall not eat thereof any thing raw, nor boiled in water, but only roasted at the fire: you shall eat the head with the feet and entrails thereof.

10Neither shall there remain any thing of it until morning. If there be any thing left, you shall burn it with fire.

11And thus you shall eat it: you shall gird your reins, and you shall have shoes on your feet, holding staves in your hands, and you shall eat in haste: for it is the Phase (that is the Passage) of the Lord.

12And I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and will kill every firstborn in the land of Egypt both man and beast: and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.

13And the blood shall be unto you for a sign in the houses where you shall be: and I shall see the blood, and shall pass over you: and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I shall strike the land of Egypt.

14And this day shall be for a memorial to you: and you shall keep it a feast to the Lord in your generations with an everlasting observance.

15Seven days shall you eat unleavened bread: in the first day there shall be no leaven in your houses: whosoever shall eat any thing leavened, from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall perish out of Israel.

16The first day shall be holy and solemn, and the seventh day shall be kept with the like solemnity: you shall do no work in them, except those things that belong to eating.

17And you shall observe the feast of the unleavened bread: for in this same day I will bring forth your army out of the land of Egypt, and you shall keep this day in your generations by a perpetual observance.

18The first month, the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the same month in the evening.

19Seven days there shall not be found any leaven in your houses: he that shall eat leavened bread, his soul shall perish out of the assembly of Israel, whether he be a stranger or born in the land.

20You shall not eat any thing leavened: in all your habitations you shall eat unleavened bread.

21And Moses called all the ancients of the children of Israel, and said to them: Go take a lamb by your families, and sacrifice the Phase.

22And dip a bunch of hyssop in the blood that is at the door, and sprinkle the transom of the door therewith, and both the door cheeks: let none of you go out of the door of his house till morning.

23For the Lord will pass through striking the Egyptians: and when he shall see the blood on the transom, and on both the posts, he will pass over the door of the house, and not suffer the destroyer to come into your houses and to hurt you.

24Thou shalt keep this thing as a law for thee and thy children for ever.

25And when you have entered into the land which the Lord will give you as he hath promised, you shall observe these ceremonies.

26And when your children shall say to you: What is the meaning of this service?

27You shall say to them: It is the victim of the passage of the Lord, when he passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, striking the Egyptians, and saving our houses. And the people bowing themselves, adored.

28And the children of Israel going forth did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.

29And it came to pass at midnight, the Lord slew every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharao, who sat on his throne, unto the firstborn of the captive woman that was in the prison, and all the firstborn of cattle.

30And Pharao arose in the night, and all his servants, and all Egypt: for there was not a house wherein there lay not one dead.

31And Pharao calling Moses and Aaron, in the night, said: Arise and go forth from among my people, you and the children of Israel: go, sacrifice to the Lord as you say.

32Your sheep and herds take along with you, as you demanded, and departing, bless me.

33And the Egyptians pressed the people to go forth out of the land speedily, saying: We shall all die.

34The people therefore took dough before it was leavened: and tying it in their cloaks, put it on their shoulders.

35And the children of Israel did as Moses had commanded: and they asked of the Egyptians vessels of silver and gold, and very much raiment.

36And the Lord gave favour to the people in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them: and they stripped the Egyptians.

37And the children of Israel set forward from Ramesse to Socoth, being about six hundred thousand men on foot, beside children.

38And a mixed multitude without number went up also with them, sheep and herds and beasts of divers kinds, exceeding many.

39And they baked the meal, which a little before they had brought out of Egypt, in dough: and they made earth cakes unleavened: for it could not be leavened, the Egyptians pressing them to depart, and not suffering them to make any stay: neither did they think of preparing any meat.

40And the abode of the children of Israel that they made in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.

41Which being expired, the same day all the army of the Lord went forth out of the land of Egypt.

42This is the observable night of the Lord, when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: this night all the children of Israel must observe in their generations.

43And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: This is the service of the Phase: No foreigner shall eat of it.

44But every bought servant shall be circumcised, and so shall eat.

45The stranger and the hireling shall not eat thereof.

46In one house shall it be eaten, neither shall you carry forth of the flesh thereof out of the house, neither shall you break a bone thereof.

47All the assembly of the children of Israel shall keep it.

48And if any stranger be willing to dwell among you, and to keep the Phase of the Lord, all his males shall first be circumcised, and then shall he celebrate it according to the manner: and he shall be as he that is born in the land: but if any man be uncircumcised, he shall not eat thereof.

49The same law shall be to him that is born in the land, and to the proselyte that sojourneth with you.

50And all the children of Israel did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.

51And the same day the Lord brought forth the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their companies.

1ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron trên đất Ai-cập :

2“Tháng này, các ngươi phải kể là tháng đứng đầu các tháng, tháng thứ nhất trong năm.

3Hãy nói với toàn thể cộng đồng Ít-ra-en : Mồng mười tháng này, ai nấy phải bắt một con chiên cho gia đình mình, mỗi nhà một con.

4Nếu nhà ít người, không ăn hết một con, thì chung với người hàng xóm gần nhà mình nhất, tuỳ theo số người. Các ngươi sẽ tuỳ theo sức mỗi người ăn được bao nhiêu mà chọn con chiên.

5Con chiên đó phải toàn vẹn, phải là con đực, không quá một tuổi. Các ngươi bắt chiên hay dê cũng được.

6Phải nhốt nó cho tới ngày mười bốn tháng này, rồi toàn thể đại hội cộng đồng Ít-ra-en đem sát tế vào lúc xế chiều,

7lấy máu bôi lên khung cửa những nhà có ăn thịt chiên.

8Còn thịt, sẽ ăn ngay đêm ấy, nướng lên, ăn với bánh không men và rau đắng.

9Các ngươi không được ăn sống hay luộc, nhưng chỉ được ăn nướng, với cả đầu, chân và lòng.

10Không được để lại gì đến sáng ; cái gì còn lại đến sáng, phải đốt đi.

11Các ngươi phải ăn thế này : lưng thắt gọn, chân đi dép, tay cầm gậy. Các ngươi phải ăn vội vã : đó là lễ Vượt Qua mừng ĐỨC CHÚA.

12Đêm ấy Ta sẽ rảo khắp đất Ai-cập, sẽ sát hại các con đầu lòng trong đất Ai-cập, từ loài người cho đến loài thú vật, và sẽ trị tội chư thần Ai-cập : vì Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA.

13Còn vết máu trên nhà các ngươi sẽ là dấu hiệu cho biết có các ngươi ở đó. Thấy máu, Ta sẽ vượt qua, và các ngươi sẽ không bị tai ương tiêu diệt khi Ta giáng hoạ trên đất Ai-cập.

14Các ngươi phải lấy ngày đó làm ngày tưởng niệm, ngày đại lễ mừng ĐỨC CHÚA. Qua mọi thế hệ, các ngươi phải mừng ngày lễ này : đó là luật quy định cho đến muôn đời.

15“Trong bảy ngày, các ngươi phải ăn Bánh Không Men. Ngay từ ngày thứ nhất, các ngươi phải loại men ra khỏi nhà, vì phàm ai ăn bánh có men, từ ngày thứ nhất đến ngày thứ bảy, người đó sẽ bị khai trừ khỏi Ít-ra-en.

16Ngày thứ nhất, các ngươi phải họp nhau thờ phượng Ta, ngày thứ bảy cũng họp nhau thờ phượng Ta. Những ngày đó không được làm công việc nào cả, chỉ được dọn bữa cho ai nấy ăn mà thôi.

17Các ngươi sẽ giữ tục lệ mừng lễ Bánh Không Men, vì vào chính ngày đó, Ta đã đưa các đạo binh của các ngươi ra khỏi đất Ai-cập. Qua mọi thế hệ, các ngươi phải giữ tục lệ mừng ngày lễ ấy : đó là điều luật vĩnh viễn.

18Tháng giêng, ngày mười bốn trong tháng, từ buổi chiều, các ngươi sẽ ăn bánh không men, cho đến buổi chiều ngày hai mươi mốt.

19Trong bảy ngày, không được giữ men trong nhà các ngươi, vì phàm ai ăn bánh có men, người đó sẽ bị khai trừ khỏi cộng đoàn Ít-ra-en, bất luận là ngoại kiều hay người bản xứ.

20Các ngươi không được ăn các thứ bánh có men ; dù ở đâu, các ngươi cũng phải ăn bánh không men.”

21Ông Mô-sê triệu tập tất cả các kỳ mục Ít-ra-en và nói với họ : “Hãy đi bắt chiên cừu về cho gia đình anh em, và sát tế làm lễ Vượt Qua.

22Anh em sẽ lấy một bó hương thảo, nhúng vào máu trong chậu và lấy máu từ trong chậu bôi lên khung cửa ; và không ai trong anh em sẽ ra khỏi cửa nhà mình cho đến sáng.

23ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ rảo khắp Ai-cập để đánh phạt, và khi thấy máu trên khung cửa, ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ vượt qua trước cửa và không để cho Thần Tru Diệt vào nhà anh em mà đánh phạt.

24Anh em phải giữ điều đó như điều luật vĩnh viễn cho mình và cho con cháu.

25Khi được vào đất mà ĐỨC CHÚA ban cho anh em như Người đã phán, anh em sẽ giữ nghi lễ đó.

26Khi con cháu anh em hỏi anh em : ‘Nghi lễ này có ý nghĩa gì đối với quý vị ?’,

27anh em sẽ trả lời : Đó là lễ tế Vượt Qua mừng ĐỨC CHÚA, Đấng đã vượt qua các nhà của con cái Ít-ra-en tại Ai-cập, khi Người đánh phạt Ai-cập và cho các nhà chúng ta thoát nạn.” Dân quỳ xuống và phủ phục.

28Con cái Ít-ra-en ra đi và làm y như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron.

29Vào nửa đêm, ĐỨC CHÚA sát hại mọi con đầu lòng trong đất Ai-cập, từ con đầu lòng của vị Pha-ra-ô đang ngồi trên ngai báu, đến con đầu lòng của người tù đang ở trong ngục và mọi con đầu lòng của loài vật.

30Đêm ấy, Pha-ra-ô thức dậy, cùng với tất cả bề tôi và mọi người Ai-cập, và tại Ai-cập vang lên tiếng kêu la, vì không có nhà nào mà không có người chết.

31Đang đêm nhà vua triệu ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron đến và bảo : “Cả các ngươi lẫn con cái Ít-ra-en, đứng lên, đi ra, không được ở giữa dân ta nữa ! Đi mà thờ phượng ĐỨC CHÚA như các ngươi đã nói !

32Cả chiên cừu, bò bê của các ngươi, cũng hãy đem đi như các ngươi đã nói. Đi đi và cầu phúc cho cả ta nữa.”

33Người Ai-cập hối thúc con cái Ít-ra-en và vội vàng thả cho họ ra khỏi nước, vì chúng nói : “Chúng ta chết cả lũ đến nơi rồi !”

34Dân phải mang theo bột đã nhào chưa kịp dậy men ; họ cuộn bột đã nhào trong thùng vào áo choàng, rồi vác lên vai.

35Con cái Ít-ra-en đã làm theo lời ông Mô-sê ; họ đã xin người Ai-cập những đồ bạc, đồ vàng và áo xống.

36ĐỨC CHÚA cho dân được cảm tình của người Ai-cập, chúng làm như lời họ xin, và họ đã tước đoạt của cải người Ai-cập.

37Con cái Ít-ra-en nhổ trại rời Ram-xết đi Xúc-cốt, có khoảng sáu trăm ngàn bộ hành, chỉ kể đàn ông không kể trẻ con.

38Cả một đám đông hỗn tạp cùng lên với họ, mang theo chiên cừu, bò dê, họp thành một đàn súc vật đông đảo.

39Họ lấy bột đã nhào đưa từ Ai-cập ra mà nướng thành bánh không men, vì bột chưa dậy men ; họ bị trục xuất khỏi Ai-cập, không được chậm trễ, nên ngay cả lương thực cũng không kịp chuẩn bị.

40Thời gian con cái Ít-ra-en ở Ai-cập là bốn trăm ba mươi năm.

41Vào đúng ngày chấm dứt bốn trăm ba mươi năm đó, toàn thể các đạo binh của ĐỨC CHÚA đã ra khỏi đất Ai-cập.

42Đó là đêm ĐỨC CHÚA canh thức để đưa họ ra khỏi đất Ai-cập ; đêm đó thuộc về ĐỨC CHÚA, đêm canh thức của toàn thể con cái Ít-ra-en, qua mọi thế hệ.

43ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron : “Đây là quy định về chiên lễ Vượt Qua : không người dân ngoại nào được ăn.

44Mọi nô lệ mua bằng tiền đã được ngươi cắt bì, thì được ăn.

45Khách vãng lai và người làm thuê không được ăn.

46Chỉ được ăn chiên trong nhà mà thôi ; không được mang thịt ra khỏi nhà. Các ngươi không được làm gãy một chiếc xương nào của nó.

47Toàn thể cộng đồng Ít-ra-en sẽ mừng lễ Vượt Qua.

48Nếu có ngoại kiều ở với ngươi mà muốn cử hành lễ Vượt Qua kính ĐỨC CHÚA, thì mọi đàn ông con trai nhà ấy phải chịu cắt bì. Bấy giờ nó mới được đến gần để mừng lễ, nó sẽ như người bản xứ ; nhưng ai không cắt bì thì không được ăn.

49Luật đó là luật chung cho người bản xứ và ngoại kiều sống giữa ngươi.”

50Mọi con cái Ít-ra-en đã làm y như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron.

51Chính ngày ấy ĐỨC CHÚA đã đưa con cái Ít-ra-en ra khỏi Ai-cập, theo binh ngũ của chúng.
