Proverbs

1Il cuor del re è nella mano del Signore come ruscelli di acque; Egli lo piega a tutto ciò che gli piace.

2Tutte le vie dell'uomo gli paiono diritte; Ma il Signore pesa i cuori.

3Far giustizia e giudicio È cosa più gradita dal Signore, che sacrificio.

4Gli occhi altieri, e il cuor gonfio, Che son la lampana degli empi, son peccato.

5I pensieri dell'uomo diligente producono di certo abbondanza; Ma l'uomo disavveduto cade senza fallo in necessità.

6Il far tesori con lingua di falsità è una cosa vana, Sospinta in qua ed in là; e si appartiene a quelli che cercan la morte.

7Il predar degli empi li trarrà in giù; Perciocchè hanno rifiutato di far ciò che è diritto.

8La via stravolta dell'uomo è anche strana; Ma l'opera di chi è puro è diritta.

9Meglio è abitare sopra un canto di un tetto, Che con una moglie rissosa in casa comune.

10L'anima dell'empio desidera il male; Il suo amico stesso non trova pietà appo lui.

11Quando lo schernitore è gastigato, il semplice ne diventa savio; E quando si ammonisce il savio, egli apprende scienza.

12Il giusto considera la casa dell'empio; Ella trabocca l'empio nel male.

13Chi tura l'orecchio, per non udire il grido del misero, Griderà anch'egli, e non sarà esaudito.

14Il presente dato di nascosto acqueta l'ira; E il dono porto nel seno acqueta il forte cruccio.

15Il far ciò che è diritto è letizia al giusto; Ma è uno spavento agli operatori d'iniquità.

16L'uomo che devia dal cammino del buon senno Riposerà in compagnia de' morti.

17L'uomo che ama godere sarà bisognoso; Chi ama il vino e l'olio non arricchirà.

18L'empio sarà per riscatto del giusto; E il disleale sarà in iscambio degli uomini diritti.

19Meglio è abitare in terra deserta, Che con una moglie rissosa e stizzosa.

20Nell'abitacolo del savio vi è un tesoro di cose rare, e d'olii preziosi; Ma l'uomo stolto dissipa tutto ciò.

21Chi va dietro a giustizia e benignità Troverà vita, giustizia, e gloria.

22Il savio sale nella città de' valenti, Ed abbatte la forza di essa.

23Chi guarda la sua bocca e la sua lingua Guarda l'anima sua d'afflizioni.

24Il nome del superbo presuntuoso è: schernitore; Egli fa ogni cosa con furor di superbia.

25Il desiderio del pigro l'uccide; Perciocchè le sue mani rifiutano di lavorare.

26L'uomo dato a cupidigia appetisce tuttodì; Ma il giusto dona, e non risparmia.

27Il sacrificio degli empi è cosa abbominevole; Quanto più se l'offeriscono con scelleratezza!

28Il testimonio mendace perirà; Ma l'uomo che ascolta parlerà in perpetuo.

29L'uomo empio si rende sfacciato; Ma l'uomo diritto addirizza le sue vie.

30Non vi è sapienza, nè prudenza, Nè consiglio, incontro al Signore.

31Il cavallo è apparecchiato per lo giorno della battaglia; Ma il salvare appartiene al Signore.

1The king’s heart is in the LORD’s hand like the watercourses.He turns it wherever he desires.

2Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,but the LORD weighs the hearts.

3To do righteousness and justiceis more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

4A high look and a proud heart,the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

5The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit;and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.

6Getting treasures by a lying tongueis a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

7The violence of the wicked will drive them away,because they refuse to do what is right.

8The way of the guilty is devious,but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

9It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetopthan to share a house with a contentious woman.

10The soul of the wicked desires evil;his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.

11When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom.When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

12The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked,and brings the wicked to ruin.

13Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor,he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

14A gift in secret pacifies anger,and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.

15It is joy to the righteous to do justice;but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

16The man who wanders out of the way of understandingshall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.

17He who loves pleasure will be a poor man.He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich.

18The wicked is a ransom for the righteous,the treacherous for the upright.

19It is better to dwell in a desert land,than with a contentious and fretful woman.

20There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise,but a foolish man swallows it up.

21He who follows after righteousness and kindnessfinds life, righteousness, and honor.

22A wise man scales the city of the mighty,and brings down the strength of its confidence.

23Whoever guards his mouth and his tonguekeeps his soul from troubles.

24The proud and arrogant man—“Scoffer” is his name—he works in the arrogance of pride.

25The desire of the sluggard kills him,for his hands refuse to labor.

26There are those who covet greedily all day long;but the righteous give and don’t withhold.

27The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination—how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!

28A false witness will perish.A man who listens speaks to eternity.

29A wicked man hardens his face;but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.

30There is no wisdom nor understandingnor counsel against the LORD.

31The horse is prepared for the day of battle;but victory is with the LORD.
