Unto Us a Child Is Born

1Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those in distress. In the past He humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future He will honor the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations:

2The people walking in darknesshave seen a great light;on those living in the land of the shadow of death,a light has dawned.

3You have enlarged the nationand increased its joy.The people rejoice before Youas they rejoice at harvest time, as men rejoice in dividing the plunder.

4For as in the day of MidianYou have shattered the yoke of their burden,the bar across their shoulders,and the rod of their oppressor.

5For every trampling boot of battleand every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.

6For unto us a child is born,unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders.And He will be calledWonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7Of the increase of His government and peacethere will be no end.He will reign on the throne of Davidand over his kingdom,to establish and sustain itwith justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this.

Judgment against Israel’s Pride

8The Lord has sent a message against Jacob,and it has fallen upon Israel.

9All the people will know it—Ephraimand the dwellers of Samaria.With pride and arrogance of heartthey will say:

10“The bricks have fallen,but we will rebuild with finished stone;the sycamores have been felled,but we will replace them with cedars.”

11The LORD has raised up the foes of Rezin against himand joined his enemies together.

12Aramfrom the east and Philistia from the westhave devoured Israel with open mouths. Despite all this, His anger is not turned away;His hand is still upraised.

Judgment against Israel’s Hypocrisy

13But the people did not return to Him who struck them;they did not seek the LORD of Hosts.

14So the LORD will cut off Israel’s head and tail,both palm branch and reed in a single day.

15The head is the elder and honorable man,and the tail is the prophet who teaches lies.

16For those who guide this people mislead them,and those they mislead are swallowed up.

17Therefore the Lord takes no pleasure in their young men;He has no compassion on their fatherless and widows.For every one of them is godless and wicked,and every mouth speaks folly. Despite all this, His anger is not turned away;His hand is still upraised.

Judgment against Israel’s Unrepentance

18For wickedness burns like a firethat consumes the thorns and briersand kindles the forest thickets,which roll upward in billows of smoke.

19By the wrath of the LORD of Hoststhe land is scorched,and the people are fuel for the fire.No man even spares his brother.

20They carve out what is on the right,but they are still hungry;they eat what is on the left,but they are still not satisfied. Each one devours the flesh of his own offspring.

21Manasseh devours Ephraim,and Ephraim Manasseh; together they turn against Judah. Despite all this, His anger is not turned away;His hand is still upraised.

1(08-23) Nhưng, cho người đã chịu buồn rầu thì sẽ không có sự mờ mịt. Trong đời xưa Đức Chúa Trời đã hạ đất Sa-bu-lôn và đất Nép-ta-li xuống; nhưng trong k” sau Ngài đã làm cho đất gần mé biển, tức là nơi bên kia sông Giô-đanh, trong xứ Ga-li-lê của dân ngoại, được vinh hiển.

2(09-1) Dân đi trong nơi tối tăm đã thấy sự sáng lớn; và sự sáng đã chiếu trên những kẻ ở xứ thuộc về bóng của sự chết.

3(09-2) Chúa đã làm cho dân nầy thêm nhiều; và thêm sự vui cho họ. Mọi người đều vui mừng trước mặt Chúa, như vui mừng trong ngày mùa gặt, như người ta reo vui trong lúc chia của cướp.

4(09-3) Vì Chúa đã bẻ cái ách họ mang, cái roi đánh trên vai họ, cái gậy của kẻ hà hiếp, như trong ngày của Ma-đi-an.

5(09-4) Cả giày dép của kẻ đánh giặc trong khi giao chiến, cùng cả áo xống vấy máu, đều dùng để đốt và làm đồ chụm lửa.

6(09-5) Vì có một con trẻ sanh cho chúng ta, tức là một con trai ban cho chúng ta; quyền cai trị sẽ nấy trên vai Ngài. Ngài sẽ được xưng là Đấng Lạ lùng, là Đấng Mưu luận, là Đức Chúa Trời Quyền năng, là Cha Đời đời, là Chúa Bình an.

7(09-6) Quyền cai trị và sự bình an của Ngài cứ thêm mãi không thôi, ở trên ngôi Đa-vít và trên nước Ngài, đặng làm cho nước bền vững, và lập lên trong sự chánh trực công bình, từ nay cho đến đời đời. Thật, lòng sốt sắng của Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân sẽ làm nên sự ấy!

8(09-7) Chúa đã giáng một lời trong Gia-cốp, và lời ấy đổ xuống trên Y-sơ-ra-ên.

9(09-8) Cả dân sẽ biết điều đó, tức là Eùp-ra-im cùng dân cư Sa-ma-ri, họ đem lòng kiêu căng ỷ thị mà nói rằng:

10(09-9) Gạch đã đổ, nhưng chúng ta sẽ xây bằng đá đẽo; cây sung đã bị đốn, nhưng chúng ta sẽ thay bằng cây hương bách.

11(09-10) Vậy nên, Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ khiến kẻ đối địch ở Rê-xin dấy lên nghịch cùng dân sự, và khích chọc kẻ cừu thù,

12(09-11) dân Sy-ri đằng trước, dân Phi-li-tin đằng sau, hả miệng nuốt Y-sơ-ra-ên. Dầu vậy, cơn giận Ngài chẳng lánh khỏi, nhưng tay Ngài còn giơ ra!

13(09-12) Nhưng mà dân sự chẳng xây về Đấng đánh mình, chẳng tin Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân.

14(09-13) Cho nên chỉ trong một ngày, Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ dứt đầu và đuôi, cây kè và cây lác của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

15(09-14) Đầu, tức là trưởng lão và kẻ tôn trọng; đuôi, tức là người tiên tri dạy sự nói dối.

16(09-15) Những kẻ dắt dân nầy làm cho họ sai lạc, còn những kẻ chịu dắt bị diệt mất.

17(09-16) Vậy nên, Chúa chẳng đẹp lòng về bọn trai trẻ của họ, và chẳng thương xót đến kẻ mồ côi góa bụa chút nào; vì họ đều là khinh lờn, gian ác, miệng nào cũng nói điều càn dỡ. Dầu vậy, cơn giận Ngài chẳng lánh khỏi, nhưng tay Ngài còn giơ ra!

18(09-17) Vì sự hung ác hừng lên như lửa thiêu cháy gai gốc và chà chuôm, đốt các nơi rậm trong rừng, trụ khói cuộn lên.

19(09-18) Đất bị thiêu đốt bởi cơn giận của Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, dân sự trở nên mồi của lửa; chẳng ai thương tiếc anh em mình.

20(09-19) Có kẻ cướp bên hữu, mà vẫn cứ đói; có kẻ ăn bên tả, mà chẳng được no; ai nấy ăn thịt chính cánh tay mình.

21(09-20) Ma-na-se nghịch cùng Eùp-ra-im, Eùp-ra-im nghịch cùng Ma-na-se, và cả hai đều nghịch cùng Giu-đa! Dầu vậy, cơn giận của Đức Giê-hô-va chẳng lánh khỏi, nhưng tay Ngài còn giơ ra.
