1Rượu xúi người nhạo báng, thức uống say gây tiếng ồn.Ai để rượu hành là người mất khôn.

2Vua thịnh nộ như sư tử rống;làm vua giận là hại chính mình!

3Tránh được tranh cạnh là điều vinh dự;chỉ dại dột mới sinh sự cãi nhau.

4Người lười biếng không cày lúc mùa đông,đến mùa gặt đi xin, chẳng được gì.

5Mưu kế lòng người như giếng nước sâu,người thông sáng chỉ việc múc lấy.

6Bao nhiêu người khoe nhân khoe nghĩa,nhưng kiếm đâu ra một người trung thành.

7Một người ngay có lòng chân thật;để lại phước lành cho cháu cho con.

8Vua ngồi xử đoán, mắt tinh vi,phân biệt sàng sảy điều gian ác.

9Ai dám bảo: “Tôi có lòng trong sạch,lương tâm tôi đã tẩy sạch tội rồi”?

10Người dùng cân lường gian trá—bị Chúa Hằng Hữu miệt khinh.

11Dù còn niên thiếu, tính tình đã bộc lộ,qua hành vi, biết nó thật hay không.

12Tai để nghe và mắt nhìn thấy—ấy là quà Chúa Hằng Hữu ban cho.

13Mê ngủ quá, con sẽ nên nghèo khó.Siêng năng lên, con sẽ được no nê.

14Người mua luôn miệng chê: “Xấu, Xấu!”Trên đường về lại tự khen mình.

15Vàng bạc ngọc ngà không khó kiếm,nhưng lời khôn ngoan quý giá biết bao.

16Phải nắm áo hắn vì hắn bảo lãnh cho người không quen,Hãy giữ vật làm tin vì hắn bảo lãnh cho đàn bà xa lạ.

17Bánh gian lận mới ăn thì ngon ngọt,nhưng vào miệng rồi, thành sỏi đá chai khô.

18Chỉ nhờ hội bàn mới thành kế hoạch;khi có cao kiến mới động binh đao.

19Người mách lẻo tiết lộ điều bí mật,con đừng nên giao dịch với người hở môi.

20Ngọn đèn của người chửi cha mắng mẹ,phụt tắt đi giữa đêm tối âm u.

21Gia tài hưởng hấp tấp,phước hạnh chẳng bền lâu.

22Đừng vội nói: “Thù tôi, tôi trả.”Nhưng hãy chờ Chúa Hằng Hữu giải cứu cho.

23Trái cân non, chiếc cân giả,cả hai đều bị Chúa Hằng Hữu ghét bỏ.

24Chúa Hằng Hữu dẫn đưa từng bước một,là người trần, ai hiểu được đường mình?

25Khấn nguyện với Đức Chúa Trời mà không suy xétlà cạm bẫy cho chính mình.

26Vua khôn ngoan áp dụng trọng hình,tẩy thanh phường gian tà.

27Tâm linh con người là ngọn đèn của Chúa Hằng Hữu,soi thấu đến những nơi sâu kín trong lòng.

28Chỉ có lòng bác ái, chân thành, độ lượng,mới bảo đảm được ngôi nước quân vương.

29Trai tráng nhờ sức mạnh được vẻ vang;bậc lão thành vinh quang vì tóc bạc.

30Những thương tích làm sạch điều ác,còn roi vọt làm tinh khiết tấm lòng.

1Wine is a luxurious thing, and drunkenness riotous: whosoever is delighted therewith shell not be wise.

2As the roaring of a lion, so also is the dread of a king: he that provoketh him, sinneth against his own soul.

18Designs are strengthened by counsels: and wars are to be managed by governments.

19Meddle not with him that revealeth secrets, and walketh deceitfully, and openeth wide his lips.

20He that curseth his father, and mother, his lamp shall be put out in the midst of darkness.

21The inheritance gotten hastily in the beginning, in the end shall be without a blessing.

22Say not: I will return evil: wait for the Lord and he will deliver thee.

23Diverse weights are an abomination before the Lord: a deceitful balance is not good.

24The steps of man are guided by the Lord: but who is the man that can understand his own way?

25It is ruin to a man to devour holy ones, and after vows to retract.

26A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth over them the wheel.

27The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, which searcheth all the hidden things of the bowels.

28Mercy and truth preserve the king, and his throne is strengthened by clemency.

29The joy of young men is their strength: and the dignity of old men, their grey hairs.

30The blueness of a wound shall wipe away evils: and stripes in the more inward parts of the belly.
