Giô-tham Cai Trị Giu-đa

1Giô-tham được hai mươi lăm tuổi khi lên ngôi, và trị vì mười sáu năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Mẹ vua là Giê-ru-sa, con Xa-đốc.

2Giô-tham làm điều thiện trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu. Ông làm mọi điều giống như Ô-xia, cha vua đã làm. Nhưng Giô-tham không dám vào Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu như cha mình. Tuy nhiên, toàn dân vẫn tiếp tục suy đồi.

3Vua xây lại cổng trên của Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu và nhiều công sự trên tường thành Ô-phên.

4Vua cũng xây nhiều thành trong miền đồi núi Giu-đa, với những đồn lũy và tháp trên rừng.

5Giô-tham tuyên chiến với vua nước Am-môn và chiến thắng. Trong suốt ba năm, người Am-môn phải cống thuế cho vua 100 ta-lâng bạc, 1.820.000 lít lúa miến, 1.820.000 lít lúa mạch.

6Vậy, Vua Giô-tham rất cường thịnh, vì vua cẩn thận sống trong sự vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời của mình.

7Các công việc khác của triều đại Giô-tham, các cuộc chiến tranh và chính sách cai trị đều được ghi vào Sách Các Vua Ít-ra-ên và Giu-đa.

8Giô-tham lên ngôi lúc hai mươi lăm tuổi và cai trị mười sáu năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

9Ông qua đời và được chôn trong Thành Đa-vít. A-cha, con Giô-tham lên ngôi kế vị.

1Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok.

2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly.

3He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.

4Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

5¶ He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.

6So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.

7¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

8He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

9¶ And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.
