Ai Cập Xâm Lăng Giu-đa

1Khi vương quyền Rô-bô-am vừa được củng cố vững vàng thì cả vua và toàn dân Ít-ra-ên đều bỏ Luật của Chúa Hằng Hữu.

2Vì họ bất trung với Chúa Hằng Hữu, nên Chúa cho Si-sắc, vua Ai Cập kéo quân tấn công Giê-ru-sa-lem vào năm thứ năm triều Vua Rô-bô-am.

3Quân đội Ai Cập gồm có 1.200 chiến xa, 60.000 kỵ binh, và vô số quân binh, gồm Ly-bi, Su-ki, và Ê-thi-ô-pi.

4Si-sắc chiếm các thành có thành lũy kiên cố của Giu-đa, rồi tấn công Giê-ru-sa-lem.

5Tiên tri Sê-ma-gia yết kiến Rô-bô-am và gặp các lãnh đạo Giu-đa, đang tị nạn tại Giê-ru-sa-lem vì Si-sắc. Sê-ma-gia nói với họ: “Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: Vì các ngươi lìa bỏ Ta, nên Ta cũng lìa bỏ các ngươi vào tay Si-sắc.”

6Vua và các nhà lãnh đạo Ít-ra-ên liền ăn năn và la lên rằng: “Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đấng công minh!”

7Thấy họ hạ mình, Chúa Hằng Hữu liền phán bảo Sê-ma-gia: “Họ đã hạ mình, nên Ta sẽ không tiêu diệt họ. Ta sẽ giải cứu họ một phần. Ta sẽ không dùng quân đội Si-sắc để đổ cơn thịnh nộ Ta trên Giê-ru-sa-lem.

8Nhưng họ phải thần phục và nạp cống thuế cho Si-sắc, để họ biết phục vụ Ta và phục vụ các vua trần gian khác nhau thế nào.”

9Vậy Si-sắc, vua Ai Cập, tấn công Giê-ru-sa-lem, chiếm đoạt các kho tàng trong Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu và trong cung điện; cướp hết các bảo vật, kể cả các chiếc thuẫn bằng vàng mà Sa-lô-môn đã làm.

10Về sau, Vua Rô-bô-am đúc các thuẫn bằng đồng thay thế và giao cho các chỉ huy đội thị vệ sử dụng.

11Mỗi khi vua vào Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu, các đội thị vệ mang thuẫn theo hầu; sau đó, họ đem cất thuẫn vào kho.

12Vì Rô-bô-am hạ mình xuống, nên Chúa Hằng Hữu nguôi cơn thịnh nộ và Ngài không tiêu diệt vua hoàn toàn, và trên đất Giu-đa vẫn còn hưởng những điều tốt lành.

Tóm Lược Đời Trị Vì của Rô-bô-am

13Vua Rô-bô-am lên ngôi năm bốn mươi mốt tuổi, củng cố quyền hành và trị vì mười bảy năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, là thành đã được Đức Chúa Trời chọn giữa các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên để đặt Danh Ngài. Mẹ Rô-bô-am là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn.

14Nhưng vua làm điều ác và không hết lòng tìm kiếm Chúa Hằng Hữu.

15Các chi tiết về cuộc trị vì của Rô-bô-am đều được ghi chép đầy đủ trong Sách của Nhà Tiên Tri Sê-ma-gia và Sách của Nhà Tiên Kiến Y-đô. Chiến tranh giữa Rô-bô-am và Giê-rô-bô-am diễn ra liên tục.

16Vua Rô-bô-am qua đời, được an táng trong Thành Đa-vít. Con ông là A-bi-gia lên ngôi kế vị cha.

1And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.

2And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,

3With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.

4And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

5¶ Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

6Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.

7And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

8Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

9So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

10Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.

11And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

12And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.

13¶ So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

14And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

15Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

16And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
