1Sau đó, ông Phao-lô rời A-thê-na đi Cô-rin-tô.

2Tại đây, ông gặp một người Do-thái tên là A-qui-la, quê ở Pon-tô, vừa mới từ I-ta-li-a đến, cùng với vợ là Pơ-rít-ki-la, vì hoàng đế Cơ-lau-đi-ô đã ra lệnh cho mọi người Do-thái phải rời Rô-ma. Ông Phao-lô đến thăm hai ông bà,

3và vì cùng nghề, nên ông ở lại nhà họ và cùng làm việc : họ làm nghề dệt lều.

4Mỗi ngày sa-bát, ông thảo luận tại hội đường, cố thuyết phục cả người Do-thái lẫn người Hy-lạp.

5Khi ông Xi-la và ông Ti-mô-thê từ Ma-kê-đô-ni-a xuống, thì ông Phao-lô chỉ lo giảng, long trọng làm chứng cho người Do-thái biết rằng Đức Giê-su chính là Đấng Ki-tô.

6Bởi họ chống đối và nói lộng ngôn, nên ông giũ áo mà bảo họ : “Máu các người cứ đổ xuống trên đầu các người ! Phần tôi, tôi vô can ; từ nay trở đi, tôi sẽ đến với người ngoại.”

7Ông rời bỏ chỗ ấy, đến nhà một người tên là Ti-xi-ô Giút-tô. Ông này là một người ngoại tôn thờ Thiên Chúa, nhà ở sát bên hội đường.

8Ông Cơ-rít-pô, trưởng hội đường, tin Chúa, cùng với cả nhà. Nhiều người Cô-rin-tô đã nghe ông Phao-lô giảng cũng tin theo và chịu phép rửa.

9Một đêm, Chúa bảo ông Phao-lô trong một thị kiến : “Đừng sợ ! Cứ nói đi, đừng làm thinh,

10vì Thầy ở với anh ; không ai tra tay hại anh được, vì Thầy có một dân đông đảo trong thành này.”

11Ông Phao-lô ở lại đó một năm rưỡi, dạy cho họ lời Thiên Chúa.

12Thời ông Ga-li-on làm thống đốc tỉnh A-khai-a, người Do-thái nhất tề nổi dậy chống ông Phao-lô ; họ đưa ông ra toà

13và nói : “Tên này xúi giục người ta tôn thờ Thiên Chúa trái với Lề Luật.”

14Ông Phao-lô toan mở miệng, thì ông Ga-li-on đã nói với người Do-thái : “Hỡi người Do-thái, giả như có gì là trái Luật hay phạm pháp, thì lẽ đương nhiên là tôi sẽ chịu khó nghe các ông.

15Nhưng đây lại là những chuyện tranh luận về giáo thuyết, danh từ, luật lệ riêng của các ông, thì các ông hãy tự xét lấy. Phần tôi, tôi không muốn xét xử những điều ấy.”

16Rồi ông đuổi họ ra khỏi toà án.

17Mọi người liền túm lấy ông Xốt-thê-nê, trưởng hội đường, mà đánh túi bụi ngay trước toà án. Nhưng ông Ga-li-on chẳng bận tâm gì về việc này.

18Ông Phao-lô còn ở lại Cô-rin-tô khá lâu, rồi từ giã các anh em và vượt biển sang miền Xy-ri, cùng với bà Pơ-rít-ki-la và ông A-qui-la. Trước đó, tại Ken-khơ-rê, ông xuống tóc, vì có lời khấn.

19Khi đến Ê-phê-xô, ông Phao-lô từ biệt hai người kia. Phần ông, ông vào hội đường và thảo luận với người Do-thái.

20Họ xin ông ở lại lâu hơn. Ông không chịu.

21Nhưng khi từ giã họ, ông nói : “Để lần khác tôi sẽ trở lại với các ông, nếu Thiên Chúa muốn.” Rồi ông xuống tàu rời Ê-phê-xô.

22Đến Xê-da-rê, ông lên Giê-ru-sa-lem chào thăm Hội Thánh, rồi xuống An-ti-ô-khi-a.

23Sau khi ở đó một thời gian, ông ra đi, lần lượt qua miền Ga-lát và Phy-ghi-a và làm cho tất cả các môn đệ được vững mạnh.

24Có một người Do-thái tên là A-pô-lô, quê ở A-lê-xan-ri-a, đã đến Ê-phê-xô ; ông là người có tài hùng biện và thông thạo Kinh Thánh.

25Ông đã được học Đạo Chúa ; với tâm hồn nồng nhiệt, ông thường lên tiếng giảng dạy chính xác những điều liên quan đến Đức Giê-su, tuy rằng ông chỉ biết có phép rửa của ông Gio-an.

26Ông bắt đầu mạnh dạn rao giảng trong hội đường. Sau khi nghe ông nói, bà Pơ-rít-ki-la và ông A-qui-la mời ông về nhà trình bày Đạo của Thiên Chúa cho ông chính xác hơn.

27Ông A-pô-lô muốn sang miền A-khai-a thì các anh em khuyến khích ông và viết thư xin các môn đệ tiếp đón ông. Khi đến nơi, nhờ ơn Chúa, ông đã giúp ích nhiều cho các tín hữu,

28vì ông mạnh mẽ và công khai bẻ lại người Do-thái, dẫn Kinh Thánh mà minh chứng rằng Đức Giê-su là Đấng Ki-tô.

1After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

2And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.

3And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

4And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

5And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

6And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

7¶ And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

8And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

9Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision,Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

10For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

11And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12¶ And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

13Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

14And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

15But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

16And he drave them from the judgment seat.

17Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

18¶ And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.

19And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

20When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

21But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

22And when he had landed at Cæsarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

23And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

24¶ And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

25This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

27And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

28For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
