Genesis

1And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.

2And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

3And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:

4I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

5And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him:

7His sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.

8¶ And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.

9And the sons of Reuben; Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

10¶ And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman.

11¶ And the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

12¶ And the sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

13¶ And the sons of Issachar; Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.

14¶ And the sons of Zebulun; Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.

15These be the sons of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob in Padan-aram, with his daughter Dinah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three.

16¶ And the sons of Gad; Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.

17¶ And the sons of Asher; Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister: and the sons of Beriah; Heber, and Malchiel.

18These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls.

19The sons of Rachel Jacob’s wife; Joseph, and Benjamin.

20¶ And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.

21¶ And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.

22These are the sons of Rachel, which were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.

23¶ And the sons of Dan; Hushim.

24¶ And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.

25These are the sons of Bilhah, which Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven.

26All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, all the souls were threescore and six;

27And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.

28¶ And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.

29And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

30And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.

31And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father’s house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father’s house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

32And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

33And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

34That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

1Ông Ít-ra-en lên đường, đem theo tất cả những gì ông có. Ông đến Bơ-e Se-va và ông dâng những lễ tế lên Thiên Chúa của cha ông là I-xa-ác.

2Thiên Chúa phán với ông Ít-ra-en trong thị kiến ban đêm, Người phán : “Gia-cóp ! Gia-cóp !” Ông thưa : “Dạ, con đây !”

3Người phán : “Ta là En, Thiên Chúa của cha ngươi. Đừng sợ xuống Ai-cập, vì ở đó Ta sẽ làm cho ngươi thành một dân lớn.

4Chính Ta sẽ xuống Ai-cập với ngươi và chính Ta cũng sẽ đưa ngươi lên. Giu-se sẽ vuốt mắt cho ngươi.”

5Ông Gia-cóp rời Bơ-e Se-va. Các con trai ông Ít-ra-en đã chở ông Gia-cóp, cha họ, và đàn bà con trẻ của họ trên những chiếc xe Pha-ra-ô đã gửi đến để rước ông đi.

6Họ đem theo các đàn vật của họ và các tài sản họ đã gây được ở đất Ca-na-an, và họ đến Ai-cập, ông Gia-cóp và tất cả dòng dõi ông cùng với ông :

7các con trai, cháu nội trai, con gái, cháu nội gái của ông. Ông đưa tất cả dòng dõi ông vào Ai-cập với ông.

8Sau đây là tên con cái Ít-ra-en đã đến Ai-cập : Ông Gia-cóp và các con trai ông. Con đầu lòng của ông Gia-cóp : Rưu-vên.

9Các con trai ông Rưu-vên : Kha-nốc, Pa-lu, Khét-rôn, Các-mi.

10Các con trai ông Si-mê-ôn : Giơ-mu-ên, Gia-min, Ô-hát, Gia-khin, Xô-kha, Sa-un, con của người đàn bà Ca-na-an.

11Các con trai ông Lê-vi : Ghéc-sôn, Cơ-hát, Mơ-ra-ri.

12Các con trai ông Giu-đa : E, Ô-nan, Sê-la, Pe-rét, De-rác. E và Ô-nan đã chết ở đất Ca-na-an. Các con trai ông Pe-rét là Khét-rôn và Kha-mun.

13Các con trai ông Ít-xa-kha : Tô-la, Pu-va, Giốp, Sim-rôn.

14Các con trai ông Dơ-vu-lun : Xe-rét, Ê-lôn, Giác-lơ-ên.

15Đó là các con trai mà bà Lê-a đã sinh ra cho ông Gia-cóp tại Pát-đan A-ram, cộng thêm cô Đi-na, con gái ông. Con trai con gái ông, tổng cộng là ba mươi ba người.

16Các con trai ông Gát : Xíp-giôn, Khác-ghi, Su-ni, Ét-bôn, Ê-ri, A-rô-đi, Ác-ê-li.

17Các con trai ông A-se : Gim-na, Gít-va, Gít-vi, Bơ-ri-a, và em gái họ là Xe-rác. Các con trai ông Bơ-ri-a : Khe-ve, Man-ki-ên.

18Đó là các con trai bà Din-pa, người mà ông La-ban đã cho bà Lê-a, con gái ông. Bà đã sinh cho ông Gia-cóp những người ấy : mười sáu người.

19Các con trai bà Ra-khen, vợ ông Gia-cóp : Giu-se và Ben-gia-min.

20Ở xứ Ai-cập, ông Giu-se có thêm Mơ-na-se và Ép-ra-im, mà bà Át-nát, con gái ông Pô-ti Phê-ra, tư tế thành Ôn, đã sinh cho ông.

21Các con trai ông Ben-gia-min : Be-la, Be-khe, Át-bên, Ghê-ra, Na-a-man, Ê-khi, Rốt, Múp-pim, Khúp-pim, Ác-đơ.

22Đó là các con trai mà bà Ra-khen đã sinh cho ông Gia-cóp, tổng cộng là mười bốn người.

23Con trai ông Đan : Khu-sim.

24Các con trai ông Náp-ta-li : Giác-xơ-ên, Gu-ni, Giê-xe, Si-lêm.

25Đó là các con trai bà Bin-ha, người mà ông La-ban đã cho bà Ra-khen, con gái ông. Bà đã sinh cho ông Gia-cóp những người ấy : tổng cộng là bảy người.

26Tất cả những người thuộc về ông Gia-cóp, tức là dòng giống của ông, đã đến Ai-cập, không kể các con dâu ông Gia-cóp, tổng cộng là sáu mươi sáu người.

27Con trai ông Giu-se sinh được tại Ai-cập : hai người. Những người thuộc gia đình ông Gia-cóp đã đến Ai-cập : tổng cộng là bảy mươi người.

28Ông Gia-cóp đã sai ông Giu-đa đi trước, đến với ông Giu-se, để ông Giu-se tới Gô-sen gặp ông. Khi họ đến đất Gô-sen,

29thì ông Giu-se cho thắng xe riêng và lên Gô-sen đón ông Ít-ra-en, cha ông. Khi hai cha con vừa thấy nhau, thì ông Giu-se bá cổ cha và gục đầu vào cổ cha mà khóc hồi lâu.

30Ông Ít-ra-en nói với ông Giu-se : “Phen này, cha chết cũng được, sau khi đã thấy mặt con, và thấy con còn sống.”

31Ông Giu-se nói với anh em ông và gia đình cha ông : “Tôi sẽ lên báo tin cho Pha-ra-ô và tâu vua rằng : ‘Anh em tôi và gia đình cha tôi ở đất Ca-na-an đã đến với tôi.

32Những người này làm nghề chăn chiên, vì họ chuyên nuôi súc vật ; họ đã đem chiên bò và tất cả những gì họ có đến đây.’

33Vậy khi Pha-ra-ô triệu anh em đến và hỏi : ‘Các ông làm nghề gì ?’,

34anh em sẽ thưa : ‘Từ thuở bé đến giờ, các tôi tớ ngài chuyên nuôi súc vật, chúng tôi cũng như cha ông chúng tôi.’ Như vậy anh em sẽ có thể ở đất Gô-sen ; bởi vì người Ai-cập ghê tởm mọi người làm nghề chăn chiên.”
