Genesis

1Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.

2And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

4And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

5¶ And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.

6But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

7And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.

8Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

9And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;

10The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.

11¶ And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi.

12¶ Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, bare unto Abraham:

13And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

15Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.

17And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people.

18And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren.

19¶ And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham begat Isaac:

20And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

21And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.

23And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

24¶ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

26And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

27And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

28And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.

29¶ And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:

30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

31And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

32And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

33And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

1Ông Áp-ra-ham lấy thêm một bà vợ nữa, tên là Cơ-tu-ra.

2Bà sinh cho ông : Dim-ran, Gióc-san, Mơ-đan, Ma-đi-an, Gít-bắc và Su-ác.

3Ông Gióc-san sinh Sơ-va và Đơ-đan ; các con của ông Đơ-đan là người Át-su-ri, Lơ-tu-sim và Lơ-um-mim.

4Các con của ông Ma-đi-an là : Ê-pha, Ê-phe, Kha-nốc, A-vi-đa, En-đa-a. Tất cả những người ấy là con cháu bà Cơ-tu-ra.

5Ông Áp-ra-ham đã cho ông I-xa-ác tất cả những gì ông có.

6Còn những người con của các bà vợ lẽ ông, thì ông Áp-ra-ham đã tặng họ quà, và ngay khi còn sống, ông cho họ đi xa ông I-xa-ác, con ông, về hướng đông, về đất Phương Đông.

7Ông Áp-ra-ham sống thọ một trăm bảy mươi lăm tuổi

8rồi tắt thở. Ông qua đời khi đã cao niên, đã sống tuổi già hạnh phúc và được mãn nguyện ; và ông được về sum họp với gia tiên.

9Các con ông I-xa-ác và Ít-ma-ên chôn cất ông trong hang Mác-pê-la, trong cánh đồng của ông Ép-rôn, con ông Xô-kha, người Khết, đối diện với Mam-rê.

10Đó là cánh đồng ông Áp-ra-ham đã tậu của con cái ông Khết. Ông Áp-ra-ham được chôn ở đó, cũng như bà Xa-ra, vợ ông.

11Sau khi ông Áp-ra-ham qua đời, Thiên Chúa chúc phúc cho ông I-xa-ác, con ông. Ông I-xa-ác ở gần giếng La-khai Rô-i.

12Đây là gia đình ông Ít-ma-ên, con ông Áp-ra-ham, mà bà Ha-ga, người Ai-cập, nữ tỳ của bà Xa-ra, đã sinh cho ông Áp-ra-ham.

13Đây là tên các con trai ông Ít-ma-ên, tên xếp theo gia đình của họ : Nơ-va-giốt, con đầu lòng của ông Ít-ma-ên, rồi đến Kê-đa, Át-bơ-ên, Míp-xam,

14Mít-ma, Đu-ma, Ma-xa,

15Kha-đát, Tê-ma, Giơ-tua, Na-phít, Kết-ma.

16Đó là các con ông Ít-ma-ên, và đó là tên của họ, theo các làng và trại của họ : mười hai đầu mục cho bấy nhiêu bộ lạc.

17Đây là số năm ông Ít-ma-ên đã sống : một trăm ba mươi bảy năm. Rồi ông tắt thở, qua đời và được về sum họp với gia tiên.

18Ông đã ở từ Kha-vi-la đến Sua, đối diện với Ai-cập, về phía Át-sua. Ông định cư đối diện với tất cả anh em của ông.

19Đây là gia đình ông I-xa-ác, con ông Áp-ra-ham. Ông Áp-ra-ham sinh ra ông I-xa-ác.

20Ông I-xa-ác được bốn mươi tuổi, khi ông lấy bà Rê-bê-ca làm vợ ; bà này là con ông Bơ-thu-ên, người A-ram ở Pát-đan A-ram, và là em ông La-ban, người A-ram.

21Ông I-xa-ác khẩn cầu ĐỨC CHÚA cho vợ ông, vì bà hiếm hoi. ĐỨC CHÚA nhậm lời ông, và bà Rê-bê-ca vợ ông có thai.

22Các đứa con đụng nhau trong lòng bà, nên bà kêu lên : “Nếu vậy thì tại sao tôi thế này ?” Bà thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA.

23Dân này sẽ mạnh hơn dân kia, đứa lớn sẽ làm tôi đứa bé.”

24Khi đến ngày sinh nở thì quả là bà đã mang hai đứa con trong lòng.

25Đứa ra trước đỏ hoe, toàn thân như một chiếc áo choàng bằng lông : người ta đặt tên cho nó là Ê-xau.

26Sau đó, đứa em ra, tay nắm gót chân của Ê-xau : người ta đặt tên cho nó là Gia-cóp. Ông I-xa-ác được sáu mươi tuổi khi chúng sinh ra.

27Hai đứa trẻ lớn lên. Ê-xau là người thạo nghề săn bắn, chuyên rong ruổi ngoài đồng ; còn Gia-cóp thì trầm tĩnh, chỉ sống ở lều.

28Ông I-xa-ác thương Ê-xau vì ông thích ăn thịt rừng, còn bà Rê-bê-ca thì thương Gia-cóp.

29Lần kia, Gia-cóp đang nấu cháo, thì Ê-xau từ ngoài đồng về, mệt lả.

30Ê-xau nói với Gia-cóp : “Cho anh ăn món đo đỏ kia với, vì anh đang mệt lả.” Vì thế, người ta đặt tên cho nó là Ê-đôm.

31Gia-cóp nói : “Anh hãy bán quyền trưởng nam của anh cho em trước đã !”

32Ê-xau nói : “Anh đang sắp chết, thì quyền trưởng nam có ích gì cho anh ?”

33Gia-cóp nói : “Vậy anh thề ngay với em đi.” Ê-xau liền thề và bán quyền trưởng nam của mình cho Gia-cóp.

34Bấy giờ Gia-cóp cho Ê-xau bánh và cháo đậu. Ê-xau ăn uống, rồi đứng dậy đi. Ê-xau đã coi thường quyền trưởng nam.
