1 Kings

1Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,

2I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;

3And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

4That the LORD may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

5Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.

6Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace.

7But shew kindness unto the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled because of Absalom thy brother.

8And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

9Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.

10So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

11And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.

12¶ Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

13¶ And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

14He said moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And she said, Say on.

15And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother’s: for it was his from the LORD.

16And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him, Say on.

17And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, (for he will not say thee nay,) that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

18And Bath-sheba said, Well; I will speak for thee unto the king.

19¶ Bath-sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand.

20Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me not nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.

21And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife.

22And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

23Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

24Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.

26¶ And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the LORD; that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28¶ Then tidings came to Joab: for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

29And it was told king Solomon that Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.

30And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said, Nay; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

31And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.

32And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

33Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever: but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever from the LORD.

34So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

35¶ And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: and Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.

36¶ And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither.

37For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.

38And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in Gath.

40And Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and was come again.

42And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to swear by the LORD, and protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.

43Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the LORD, and the commandment that I have charged thee with?

44The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;

45And king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.

46So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

1Khi thấy mình đã gần đất xa trời, vua Đa-vít truyền dạy Sa-lô-môn con mình rằng :

2“Cha sắp bước vào đoạn đường mà mọi người trên đời phải đi qua ; con hãy can đảm lên và sống cho xứng bậc nam nhi.

3Hãy tuân giữ các huấn lệnh của ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của con, mà đi theo đường lối của Người, là giữ các giới răn, mệnh lệnh, luật pháp, và chỉ thị của Người, như đã ghi trong Luật Mô-sê. Như thế con sẽ thành công trong mọi việc con làm và trong mọi hướng con đi,

4và ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ thực hiện lời Người đã phán với cha rằng : ‘Nếu con cái ngươi sống cho phải đạo là hết lòng hết dạ bước đi trung thực trước nhan Ta, thì ngươi sẽ không bao giờ thiếu người ngự trên ngai Ít-ra-en.’

5Con cũng đã biết Giô-áp, con của Xơ-ru-gia, đã làm gì cho cha, nó đã làm gì cho hai người chỉ huy quân đội Ít-ra-en là Áp-ne, con của Ne, và A-ma-xa, con của Gie-the ; nó đã giết họ. Như thế trong thời bình nó đã đổ máu người như trong thời chiến, làm cho đai lưng và giày nó mang vấy máu chiến tranh.

6Con sẽ đối xử theo sự khôn ngoan của con, và đừng để cho đầu bạc của nó xuống âm phủ bình an.

7Còn đối với các con của Bác-di-lai, người Ga-la-át, thì con sẽ cư xử nhân hậu, cho chúng được hưởng lộc của con, vì khi cha trốn Áp-sa-lôm anh con, nó đã tiếp cứu cha như thế.

8Và này, con còn vụ Sim-y, con của Ghê-ra, người Ben-gia-min, thuộc Ba-khu-rim. Nó đã chửi rủa cha thậm tệ hôm cha đến Ma-kha-na-gim ; nhưng rồi nó lại xuống đón gặp cha ở sông Gio-đan, và cha đã nhân danh ĐỨC CHÚA mà thề với nó rằng : ‘Ta sẽ không dùng gươm giết ngươi.’

9Nhưng con, con đừng để nó vô can, bởi vì con là người khôn ngoan, và biết phải xử với nó như thế nào để bắt nó xuống âm phủ với đầu bạc vấy máu.”

10Vua Đa-vít đã an nghỉ với tổ tiên ông, và được chôn cất trong Thành vua Đa-vít.

11Thời gian vua Đa-vít trị vì Ít-ra-en là bốn mươi năm : vua trị vì tại Khép-rôn bảy năm và tại Giê-ru-sa-lem ba mươi ba năm.

12Vua Sa-lô-môn ngự trên ngai vua Đa-vít, thân phụ ông, và vương quyền của ông thật là vững chắc.

13Ông A-đô-ni-gia-hu, con bà Khác-ghít, đến gặp bà Bát Se-va, mẹ vua Sa-lô-môn ; bà hỏi ông : “Anh đến nói chuyện bình an chứ ?” Ông thưa : “Bình an.”

14Ông nói tiếp : “Tôi có việc muốn thưa với bà.” Bà đáp : “Anh cứ nói.”

15Ông nói : “Hẳn bà cũng biết là vương quyền phải thuộc về tôi ; và toàn thể Ít-ra-en đều hướng về tôi, trông chờ tôi làm vua. Nhưng vương quyền ấy đã xoay chiều và thuộc về em tôi, vì ĐỨC CHÚA đã muốn như thế.

16Vậy bây giờ tôi chỉ có một điều xin bà, bà đừng ngoảnh mặt đi.” Bà bảo ông : “Anh cứ nói.”

17Ông liền nói : “Xin bà nói với vua Sa-lô-môn –vì người không ngoảnh mặt từ chối bà đâu– xin người ban cho tôi nàng A-vi-sác, người Su-nêm, làm vợ.”

18Bà Bát Se-va nói : “Được, tôi sẽ thưa với vua hộ anh.”

19Bà Bát Se-va vào yết kiến vua Sa-lô-môn để thưa chuyện với vua giúp A-đô-ni-gia-hu. Vua đứng lên, ra đón và sấp mình chào bà ; đoạn vua ngồi trên ngai, đồng thời cũng truyền đặt một ngai cho bà thái hậu, bà ngồi bên hữu vua.

20Bà nói : “Có một điều nhỏ mọn mẹ xin với con ; con đừng ngoảnh mặt đi.” Vua nói với bà : “Thưa mẹ, mẹ cứ xin, vì con sẽ không ngoảnh mặt từ chối mẹ.”

21Bà liền nói : “Xin cho nàng A-vi-sác, người Su-nêm, được làm vợ A-đô-ni-gia-hu, anh con.”

22Vua Sa-lô-môn trả lời và nói với mẹ : “Sao mẹ lại xin nàng A-vi-sác, người Su-nêm, cho A-đô-ni-gia-hu ? Mẹ xin cho anh ấy vương quyền luôn đi, vì anh ấy là anh con mà, và đã có tư tế Ép-gia-tha cũng như Giô-áp, con Xơ-ru-gia, ủng hộ.”

23Rồi vua Sa-lô-môn lấy danh ĐỨC CHÚA mà thề : “Xin Thiên Chúa phạt ta thế này và thế kia nữa, nếu A-đô-ni-gia-hu không mất mạng vì câu nói đó !”

24Vậy bây giờ, có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống ! Đấng đã làm cho ta được vững, và đặt ta trên ngai Đa-vít phụ vương ta, Người cũng đã tạo lập cho ta một triều đại như Người đã phán, ta thề rằng ngay hôm nay A-đô-ni-gia-hu sẽ phải chết !”

25Đoạn vua Sa-lô-môn sai ông Bơ-na-gia-hu, con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa, đi hạ sát ông A-đô-ni-gia-hu và ông này đã chết.

26Còn tư tế Ép-gia-tha thì vua bảo : “Ngươi hãy về A-na-thốt với ruộng đất của ngươi, vì ngươi là con người đáng chết, nhưng hôm nay ta không giết ngươi, bởi vì ngươi đã khiêng Hòm Bia của ĐỨC CHÚA là Chúa Thượng ta, trước mặt Đa-vít phụ vương ta, và ngươi đã chia sẻ mọi nỗi gian lao với phụ vương ta.”

27Thế là ông Sa-lô-môn cách chức ông Ép-gia-tha không cho làm tư tế ĐỨC CHÚA nữa, khiến cho lời ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán về gia đình Ê-li tại Si-lô nên ứng nghiệm.

28Hay tin ấy, ông Giô-áp, người đã từng theo phe A-đô-ni-gia, tuy không ngả theo Áp-sa-lôm, liền trốn vào Lều của ĐỨC CHÚA và bám chặt lấy góc bàn thờ.

29Người ta báo tin cho Sa-lô-môn biết là ông Giô-áp đã trốn vào Lều của ĐỨC CHÚA, và này ông đang ở bên cạnh bàn thờ. Vua Sa-lô-môn sai ông Bơ-na-gia-hu, con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa và bảo : “Đi hạ sát hắn !”

30Ông Bơ-na-gia-hu vào Lều của ĐỨC CHÚA và nói với ông Giô-áp : “Đức vua phán thế này : Đi ra !” Nhưng ông đáp : “Không, tôi sẽ chết ở đây.” Ông Bơ-na-gia-hu tường trình sự việc với vua : “Giô-áp đã nói và trả lời tôi như thế.”

31Vua nói với ông : “Cứ làm như hắn nói ; hạ sát hắn, rồi chôn hắn đi. Như thế, ngươi sẽ làm cho ta và nhà cha ta được sạch vết máu vô tội Giô-áp đã đổ ra.

32Xin ĐỨC CHÚA làm cho máu hắn lại đổ trên đầu hắn, vì hắn đã hạ sát hai người công chính và tốt lành hơn hắn ; hắn đã dùng gươm thủ tiêu họ mà Đa-vít, thân phụ ta, không hay biết : đó là ông Áp-ne, con ông Ne, chỉ huy quân đội Ít-ra-en, và ông A-ma-xa, con ông Gie-the, chỉ huy quân đội Giu-đa.

33Như thế máu của họ lại đổ trên đầu Giô-áp và trên đầu dòng dõi hắn đến muôn đời ; còn Đa-vít và dòng dõi người, cũng như triều đại và ngai báu của người sẽ được ĐỨC CHÚA ban bình an đến muôn đời.”

34Bấy giờ ông Bơ-na-gia-hu, con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa, đi lên, hạ sát, rồi chôn ông Giô-áp tại nhà ông này trong sa mạc.

35Vua đặt ông Bơ-na-gia-hu con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa thay thế ông Giô-áp đứng đầu quân đội và tư tế Xa-đốc thay thế ông Ép-gia-tha.

36Vua sai người gọi Sim-y đến và bảo : “Ngươi hãy xây cho mình một ngôi nhà tại Giê-ru-sa-lem mà ở, và không được rời khỏi đây để đi bất cứ nơi nào khác.

37Ngày nào ngươi rời khỏi đó và qua suối Kít-rôn, thì ngày ấy ngươi biết chắc rằng ngươi sẽ phải chết ; máu ngươi sẽ đổ trên đầu ngươi.”

38Sim-y thưa với vua : “Lời ngài nói thật là phải. Đức vua, chúa thượng tôi, đã nói thế nào, thì xin ngài cứ thi hành như vậy với bề tôi của ngài.” Và Sim-y cư ngụ lâu ngày tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

39Nhưng rồi sau ba năm có hai người đầy tớ của Sim-y bỏ trốn, đến với ông A-khít, con ông Ma-a-kha, vua Gát ; và người ta báo cho Sim-y : “Này, các đầy tớ của ông đang ở Gát.”

40Sim-y liền trỗi dậy, thắng lừa, đi Gát, đến nhà ông A-khít, để tìm đầy tớ ; ông đến đó và đưa các đầy tớ của mình từ Gát trở về.

41Người ta báo cho vua Sa-lô-môn biết Sim-y đã bỏ Giê-ru-sa-lem đi Gát và đã trở về.

42Vua mới sai người gọi Sim-y đến và bảo : “Ta lại đã không bắt ngươi lấy ĐỨC CHÚA mà thề và ta đã cảnh giác ngươi rằng : ngày nào ngươi rời khỏi đây và đi bất cứ nơi nào khác, thì ngươi biết chắc rằng ngươi sẽ phải chết ; ngươi cũng đã thưa với ta : ‘Lời ngài nói thật là phải, tôi xin tuân hành.’

43Vậy, tại sao ngươi không giữ lời đã thề trước mặt ĐỨC CHÚA và lệnh ta đã truyền cho ngươi ?”

44Rồi vua nói với Sim-y : “Chính ngươi đã biết tất cả sự độc ác –hẳn lòng ngươi quá rõ– mà ngươi đã làm cho Đa-vít thân phụ ta ; xin ĐỨC CHÚA làm cho sự độc ác của ngươi lại giáng xuống đầu ngươi.

45Còn vua Sa-lô-môn thì được chúc phúc, và ngai báu của Đa-vít bền vững trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA đến muôn đời.”

46Vua Sa-lô-môn nắm vững vương quyền trong tay.
