1The Lord spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first month, saying:

2Let the children of Israel make the phase in its due time,

3The fourteenth day of this month in the evening, according to all the ceremonies and justifications thereof.

4And Moses commanded the children of Israel that they should make the phase.

5And they made it in its proper time: the fourteenth day of the month at evening, in mount Sinai. The children of Israel did according to all things that the Lord had commanded Moses.

6But behold some who were unclean by occasion of the soul of a man, who could not make the phase on that day, coming to Moses and Aaron,

7Said to them: We are unclean by occasion of the soul of a man. Why are we kept back that we may not offer in its season the offering to the Lord among the children of Israel?

8And Moses answered them: Stay that I may consult the Lord what he will ordain concerning you.

9And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

10Say to the children of Israel: The man that shall be unclean by occasion of one that is dead, or shall be in a journey afar off in your nation, let him make the phase to the Lord.

11In the second month, on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, they shall eat it with unleavened bread and wild lettuce:

12They shall not leave any thing thereof until morning, a nor break a bone thereof, they shall observe all the ceremonies of the phase.

13But if any man is clean, and was not on a journey, and did not make the phase, that soul shall be cut off from among his people, because he offered not sacrifice to the Lord in due season: he shall bear his sin.

14The sojourner also and the stranger if they be among you, shall make the phase to the Lord according to the ceremonies and justifications thereof. The same ordinance shall be with you both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.

15Now on the day that the tabernacle was reared up, a cloud covered it. But from the evening there was over the tabernacle, as it were, the appearance of fire until the morning.

16So it was always: by day the cloud covered it, and by night as it were the appearance of fire.

17And when the cloud that covered the tabernacle was taken up, then the children of Israel marched forward: and in the place where the cloud stood still, there they camped.

18At the commandment of the Lord they marched, and at his commandment they pitched the tabernacle. All the days that the cloud abode over the tabernacle, they remained in the same place:

19And if it was so that it continued over it a long time, the children of Israel kept the watches of the Lord, and marched not,

20For as many days soever as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle. At the commandment of the Lord they pitched their tents, and at his commandment they took them down.

21If the cloud tarried from evening until morning, and immediately at break of day left the tabernacle, they marched forward: and if it departed after a day and a night, they took down their tents.

22But if it remained over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a longer time, the children of Israel remained in the same place, and marched not: but immediately as soon as it departed, they removed the camp.

23By the word of the Lord they pitched their tents, and by his word they marched: and kept the watches of the Lord according to his commandment by the hand of Moses.

1Tháng giêng năm thứ hai từ khi ra khỏi đất Ai-cập, ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê trong sa mạc Xi-nai rằng :

2“Con cái Ít-ra-en phải mừng lễ Vượt Qua vào thời gian quy định.

3Ngày mười bốn tháng này, lúc chập tối, các ngươi sẽ mừng lễ ấy vào giờ quy định, các ngươi sẽ cứ điều luật và tục lệ mà cử hành lễ ấy.”

4Vậy ông Mô-sê đã nói với con cái Ít-ra-en phải cử hành lễ Vượt Qua ;

5và họ đã cử hành lễ Vượt Qua vào tháng giêng, ngày mười bốn, lúc chập tối, trong sa mạc Xi-nai. ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông Mô-sê thế nào, thì con cái Ít-ra-en đã thi hành như thế.

6Có những người nhiễm uế vì đụng đến xác chết, không thể mừng lễ Vượt Qua ngày hôm ấy. Ngay hôm ấy, họ đã đến gặp ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron,

7và thưa với các ông rằng : “Chúng tôi bị nhiễm uế vì đụng đến xác chết, tại sao chúng tôi bị cấm không được dâng lễ tiến lên ĐỨC CHÚA vào thời gian quy định, cùng với con cái Ít-ra-en ?”

8Ông Mô-sê nói với họ : “Anh em cứ đứng đó, để tôi đi thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA xem Người có dạy gì về anh em.”

9ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê rằng :

10Trong các ngươi hay trong dòng dõi các ngươi, hễ ai bị nhiễm uế vì đụng đến xác chết, hoặc ai đi xa, thì cũng phải mừng lễ Vượt Qua kính ĐỨC CHÚA.

11Tháng thứ hai, ngày mười bốn lúc chập tối, chúng sẽ mừng lễ đó. Chúng sẽ ăn chiên Vượt Qua với bánh không men và rau đắng.

12Chúng sẽ không để gì thừa lại cho đến sáng hôm sau, và cũng không được làm giập gẫy một xương nào của nó ; chúng sẽ mừng lễ Vượt Qua theo đúng mọi điều luật về lễ ấy.

13Còn người nào vẫn trong sạch, lại không đi xa, mà bỏ không mừng lễ Vượt Qua, thì người đó sẽ bị khai trừ khỏi đồng bào mình, vì nó đã không dâng lễ tiến lên ĐỨC CHÚA vào thời đã quy định ; nó phải mang lấy tội mình.

14Nếu một ngoại kiều cư ngụ với các ngươi, mà mừng lễ Vượt Qua kính ĐỨC CHÚA, thì nó cũng phải cứ theo điều luật và tục lệ về lễ Vượt Qua mà cử hành ; chỉ có một điều luật chung, cho các ngươi, ngoại kiều cũng như người bản xứ.”

15Trong ngày dựng Nhà Tạm, có mây che phủ Nhà Tạm và Lều Chứng Ước, nhưng đêm đến thì trông như lửa trên Nhà Tạm cho tới sáng.

16Cứ xảy ra liên tục như thế : mây che phủ Nhà Tạm ban ngày, đêm thì trông như lửa.

17Mỗi lần mây bốc lên cao khỏi Lều, thì con cái Ít-ra-en nhổ trại, và nơi nào mây đậu lại, thì ở đó con cái Ít-ra-en đóng trại.

18Cứ lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA mà con cái Ít-ra-en lên đường, và cứ lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA mà họ đóng trại ; bao lâu mây đậu lại trên Nhà Tạm, thì họ tiếp tục đóng trại.

19Khi mây đậu trên Nhà Tạm lâu ngày, thì con cái Ít-ra-en giữ y như điều ĐỨC CHÚA truyền và không nhổ trại lên đường.

20Có khi mây chỉ đậu ít ngày trên Nhà Tạm, thì họ cũng cứ lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA mà đóng trại, và cứ lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA mà nhổ trại lên đường.

21Có khi mây đậu lại từ chiều tối tới sáng, và ban sáng khi mây bốc lên, thì lúc đó họ nhổ trại lên đường.

22Nếu mây lưu lại trên Nhà Tạm hai ngày, hoặc một tháng hay mấy ngày thôi, thì con cái Ít-ra-en cũng cứ theo đó mà đóng trại, chứ không nhổ trại lên đường ; rồi khi mây bốc lên, họ mới nhổ trại lên đường.

23Cứ lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA họ đóng trại, và cứ lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA họ nhổ trại ; ĐỨC CHÚA buộc giữ thế nào, thì họ tuân giữ như thế, theo lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA truyền qua ông Mô-sê.
