2 Kings

1Josias was eight years old when he began to reign: he reigned one and thirty years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Idida, the daughter of Hadaia, of Besecath.

2And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the ways of David his father: he turned not aside to the right hand, or to the left.

3And in the eighteenth year of king Josias, the king sent Saphan the son of Assia, the son of Messulam, the scribe of the temple of the Lord, saying to him:

4Go to Helcias the high priest, that the money may be put together which is brought into the temple of the Lord, which the doorkeepers of the temple have gathered of the people.

5And let it be given to the workmen by the overseers of the house of the Lord: and lot them distribute it to those that work in the temple of the Lord, to repair the temple:

6That is, to carpenters and masons, and to such as mend breaches: and that timber may be bought, and stones out of the quarries, to repair the temple of the Lord.

7But let there be no reckoning made with them of the money which they receive, but let them have it in their power, and in their trust.

8And Helcias the high priest said to Saphan the scribe: I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord: and Helcias gave the book to Saphan, and he read it.

9And Saphan the scribe came to the king, and brought him word again concerning that which he had commanded, and said: Thy servants have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and they have given it to be distributed to the workmen, by the overseers of the works of the temple of the Lord.

10And Saphan the scribe told the king, saying: Helcias the priest hath delivered to me a book. And when Saphan had read it before the king,

11And the king had heard the words of the law of the Lord, he rent his garments.

12And he commanded Helcias the priest, and Ahicam the son of Saphan, and Achobor the son of Micha, and Saphan the scribe, and Asaia the king’s servant, saying:

13Go and consult the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Juda, concerning the words of this book which is found: for the great wrath of the Lord is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened to the words of this book, to do all that is written for us.

14So Helcias the priest, and Ahicam, and Achobor, and Saphan, and Asaia went to Holda the prophetess the wife of Sellum the son of Thecua, the son of Araas keeper of the wardrobe, who dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second: and they spoke to her.

15And she said to them: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Tell the man that sent you to me:

16Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will bring evils upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, all the words of the law which the king of Juda hath read:

17Because they have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, provoking me by all the works of their hands: therefore my indignation shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

18But to the king of Juda, who sent you to consult the Lord, thus shall you say: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Forasmuch as thou hast heard the words of the book,

19And thy heart hath been moved to fear, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, hearing the words against this place, and the inhabitants thereof, to wit, that they should become a wonder and a curse: and thou hast rent thy garments, and wept before me, I also have heard thee, saith the Lord:

20Therefore I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy sepulchre in peace, that thy eyes may not see all the evils which I will bring; upon this place.

1Giô-si-gia lên làm vua khi được tám tuổi, và trị vì ba mươi mốt năm ở Giê-ru-sa-lem. Mẹ vua tên là Giơ-đi-đa, con ông A-đa-gia ; bà là người Bót-cát.

2Vua đã làm những điều ngay chính trước mắt ĐỨC CHÚA, và trong mọi sự, vua đi theo đường lối vua Đa-vít, tổ tiên vua ; vua không đi trệch bên phải bên trái.

3Năm thứ mười tám triều Giô-si-gia, vua sai ký lục Sa-phan, con ông A-xan-gia-hu, cháu ông Mơ-su-lam, đến Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA và nói :

4“Hãy lên gặp thượng tế Khin-ki-gia-hu, xin thượng tế cộng lại số bạc dâng vào Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA, mà các tư tế canh ngưỡng cửa đã nhận của dân ;

5người ta phải trao số bạc đó cho những người lo việc sửa chữa, những người phụ trách Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA ; rồi những người này phải trả cho những người lo việc sửa chữa Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA, để họ sửa chữa những chỗ hư hại trong đó ;

6cũng phải trả cho thợ mộc, thợ xây nhà và thợ nề, để họ mua gỗ và đá đẽo mà sửa chữa Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA.

7Nhưng đừng đòi họ tính sổ về số bạc đã trao cho họ, vì họ hành động liêm chính.”

8Thượng tế Khin-ki-gia-hu nói với ký lục Sa-phan : “Tôi đã tìm thấy sách Luật trong Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA.” Ông Khin-ki-gia-hu trao sách cho ông Sa-phan đọc.

9Ký lục Sa-phan đến gặp vua và trình lên vua rằng : “Bầy tôi của vua đã đúc số bạc tìm thấy trong Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA, và đã trao cho những người lo việc sửa chữa, những người phụ trách Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA.”

10Rồi ký lục Sa-phan báo tin cho vua như sau : “Tư tế Khin-ki-gia-hu đã đưa cho tôi một cuốn sách.” Sau đó, ông Sa-phan đọc sách trước mặt vua.

11Nghe những lời ghi chép trong Sách Luật, vua xé áo mình ra,

12rồi truyền lệnh sau đây cho tư tế Khin-ki-gia-hu, cho ông A-khi-cam, con ông Sa-phan, cho ông Ác-bo, con ông Mi-kha-gia, cho ký lục Sa-phan và ông A-xa-gia, tôi tớ của vua :

13“Hãy đi thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA cho ta, cho dân và toàn thể Giu-đa về những lời ghi chép trong sách đã tìm thấy đây, vì ĐỨC CHÚA đã bừng bừng nổi cơn thịnh nộ chống lại chúng ta, bởi lẽ tổ tiên chúng ta đã không vâng nghe các lời trong sách này mà làm theo mọi điều đã viết trong đó.”

14Tư tế Khin-ki-gia-hu, các ông A-khi-cam, Ác-bo, Sa-phan và A-xa-gia đi gặp nữ ngôn sứ Khun-đa, vợ người phụ trách phòng lễ phục là ông Sa-lum, con ông Tích-va, cháu ông Khác-khát ; bà ở tại khu vực phụ thuộc thành Giê-ru-sa-lem. Họ thưa chuyện với bà ;

15rồi bà bảo họ : “ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, phán thế này : ‘Hãy nói với người đã cử các ngươi đến gặp Ta :

16ĐỨC CHÚA phán thế này : Ta sắp giáng hoạ xuống nơi đó, xuống dân cư ở nơi đó, đúng như mọi lời ghi chép trong sách vua Giu-đa đã đọc.

17Vì chúng đã bỏ Ta và đã đốt hương kính các thần khác để trêu giận Ta bằng mọi việc tay chúng làm, nên Ta đã bừng bừng nổi giận chống lại nơi này, và cơn giận đó sẽ khôn nguôi.’

18Các ông hãy nói thế này với vua Giu-đa đã sai các ông đi thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA : ‘ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, phán thế này : những lời mà ngươi đã nghe...

19Vì ngươi đã mềm lòng và hạ mình trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, khi nghe những gì Ta đã nói chống lại nơi đó và dân cư ở đó, những kẻ sẽ trở thành kinh tởm và đáng nguyền rủa ; vì ngươi đã xé áo mình ra và khóc lóc trước nhan Ta, thì Ta, Ta cũng đã nghe, sấm ngôn của ĐỨC CHÚA.

20Bởi thế, này Ta sẽ cho ngươi sum họp với tổ tiên ngươi, ngươi sẽ được bình yên sum họp nơi phần mộ ngươi. Mắt ngươi sẽ không thấy gì về tất cả tai hoạ Ta sắp giáng xuống nơi này.’” Họ đã trình lại cho vua câu trả lời ấy.
