1A gentle answer turns away wrath,but a harsh word stirs up anger.

2The tongue of the wise commends knowledge,but the mouth of the fool spouts folly.

3The eyes of the LORD are in every place,observing the evil and the good.

4A soothing tongue is a tree of life,but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

5A fool rejects his father’s discipline,but whoever heeds correction is prudent.

6The house of the righteous has great treasure,but the income of the wicked is trouble.

7The lips of the wise spread knowledge,but not so the hearts of fools.

8The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the LORD,but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

9The LORD detests the way of the wicked,but He loves those who pursue righteousness.

10Discipline is harsh for him who leaves the path;he who hates correction will die.

11Sheol and Abaddonlie open before the LORD—how much more the hearts of men!

12A mocker does not love to be reproved,nor will he consult the wise.

13A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance,but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit.

14A discerning heart seeks knowledge,but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.

15All the days of the oppressed are bad,but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.

16Better a little with the fear of the LORDthan great treasure with turmoil.

17Better a dish of vegetables where there is lovethan a fattened ox with hatred.

18A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,but he who is slow to anger calms dispute.

19The way of the slacker is like a hedge of thorns,but the path of the upright is a highway.

20A wise son brings joy to his father,but a foolish man despises his mother.

21Folly is joy to one who lacks judgment,but a man of understanding walks a straight path.

22Plans fail for lack of counsel,but with many advisers they succeed.

23A man takes joy in a fitting reply—and how good is a timely word!

24The path of life leads upward for the wise,that he may avoid going down to Sheol.

25The LORD tears down the house of the proud,but He protects the boundaries of the widow.

26The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked,but the words of the pure are pleasant to Him.

27He who is greedy for unjust gain brings trouble on his household,but he who hates bribes will live.

28The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,but the mouth of the wicked blurts out evil.

29The LORD is far from the wicked,but He hears the prayer of the righteous.

30The light of the eyes cheers the heart,and good news nourishes the bones.

31He who listens to life-giving reproofwill dwell among the wise.

32He who ignores discipline despises himself,but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.

33The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom,and humility comes before honor.

1Lời đáp êm nhẹ làm nguôi cơn giận; Còn lời xẳng xớm trêu thạnh nộ thêm.

2Lưỡi người khôn ngoan truyền ra sự tri thức cách phải; Nhưng miệng kẻ ngu muội chỉ buông điều điên cuồng.

3Con mắt Đức Giê-hô-va ở khắp mọi nơi, Xem xét kẻ gian ác và người lương thiện.

4Lưỡi hiền lành giống như một cây sự sống; Song lưỡi gian tà làm cho hư nát tâm thần.

5Kẻ ngu dại khinh sự khuyên dạy của cha mình; Còn ai giữ theo lời quở trách trở nên khôn khéo.

6Trong nhà người công bình có nhiều vật quí; Song trong huê lợi kẻ gian ác có điều rối loạn.

7Môi người khôn ngoan rải sự tri thức ra; Nhưng lòng kẻ ngu muội chẳng làm như vậy.

8Của tế lễ kẻ gian ác lấy làm gớm ghiếc cho Đức Giê-hô-va; Song lời cầu nguyện của người ngay thẳng được đẹp lòng Ngài.

9Đường lối kẻ ác lấy làm gớm ghiếc cho Đức Giê-hô-va; Nhưng Ngài thương mến người nào theo sự công bình.

10Sự hình phạt nặng nề dành cho kẻ bỏ chánh lộ; Và kẻ ghét lời quở trách sẽ chết mất.

11Aâm phủ và chốn trầm luân còn ở trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va thay, Phương chi lòng của con cái loài người!

12Kẻ nhạo báng không ưa người ta quở trách mình; Hắn không muốn đến cùng người khôn ngoan.

13Lòng khoái lạc làm cho mặt mày vui vẻ; Nhưng tại lòng buồn bã trí bèn bị nao sờn.

14Lòng người thông sáng tìm kiếm sự tri thức; Còn lỗ miệng kẻ ngu muội nuôi lấy mình bằng sự điên cuồng.

15Các ngày kẻ bị hoạn nạn đều là gian hiểm; Song lòng vui mừng dự yến tiệc luôn luôn.

16Thà có ít của mà kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va, Còn hơn là tài sản nhiều mà bối rối cặp theo.

17Thà một món rau mà thương yêu nhau, Còn hơn ăn bò mập béo với sự ganh ghét cặp theo.

18Người hay giận gây điều đánh lộn; Nhưng người chậm nóng giận làm nguôi cơn tranh cãi.

19Đường kẻ biếng nhác như một hàng rào gai; Còn nẻo người ngay thẳng được ban bằng.

20Con khôn ngoan làm vui vẻ cha nó; Còn đứa ngu muội khinh bỉ mẹ mình.

21Kẻ thiếu trí hiểu lấy sự điên dại làm vui; Song người khôn sáng sửa đường mình ngay thẳng rồi đi.

22Đâu không có nghị luận, đó mưu định phải phế; Nhưng nhờ có nhiều mưu sĩ, mưu định bèn được thành.

23Miệng hay đáp giỏi khiến người vui vẻ; Và lời nói phải thì lấy làm tốt biết bao!

24Con đường sự sống của người khôn ngoan dẫn lên trên, Để tránh khỏi âm phủ ở dưới thấp.

25Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ đánh đổ nhà kẻ kiêu ngạo; Nhưng Ngài làm vững chắc các mộc giới của kẻ góa bụa.

26Các mưu ác lấy làm gớm ghiếc cho Đức Giê-hô-va; Song lời thanh sạch đẹp lòng Ngài.

27Người tham lợi làm rối loạn nhà mình; Còn ai ghét của hối lộ sẽ được sống.

28Lòng người công bình suy nghĩ lời phải đáp; Nhưng miệng kẻ ác buông ra điều dữ.

29Đức Giê-hô-va xa cách kẻ ác; Nhưng Ngài nghe lời cầu nguyện của người công bình.

30Sự sáng con mắt khiến lòng vui vẻ; Và một tin lành làm cho xương cốt được béo tốt.

31Kẻ nào nghe lời quở trách của sự sống Sẽ được ở giữa các người khôn ngoan.

32Ai từ chối sự khuyên dạy khinh bỉ linh hồn mình. Nhưng ai nghe lời quở trách được sự thông sáng.

33Sự kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va dạy dỗ điều khôn ngoan; Và sự khiêm nhượng đi trước sự tôn trọng.
