Proverbs

1A soft answer turneth back fury, And a grievous word raiseth up anger.

2The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge good, And the mouth of fools uttereth folly.

3In every place are the eyes of Jehovah, Watching the evil and the good.

4A healed tongue [is] a tree of life, And perverseness in it — a breach in the spirit.

5A fool despiseth the instruction of his father, And whoso is regarding reproof is prudent.

6[In] the house of the righteous [is] abundant strength, And in the increase of the wicked — trouble.

7The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, And the heart of fools [is] not right.

8The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to Jehovah, And the prayer of the upright [is] His delight.

9An abomination to Jehovah [is] the way of the wicked, And whoso is pursuing righteousness He loveth.

10Chastisement [is] grievous to him who is forsaking the path, Whoso is hating reproof dieth.

11Sheol and destruction [are] before Jehovah, Surely also the hearts of the sons of men.

12A scorner loveth not his reprover, Unto the wise he goeth not.

13A joyful heart maketh glad the face, And by grief of heart is the spirit smitten.

14The heart of the intelligent seeketh knowledge, And the mouth of fools enjoyeth folly.

15All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, And gladness of heart [is] a perpetual banquet.

16Better [is] a little with the fear of Jehovah, Than much treasure, and tumult with it.

17Better [is] an allowance of green herbs and love there, Than a fatted ox, and hatred with it.

18A man of fury stirreth up contention, And the slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19The way of the slothful [is] as a hedge of briers, And the path of the upright is raised up.

20A wise son rejoiceth a father. And a foolish man is despising his mother.

21Folly is joy to one lacking heart, And a man of intelligence directeth [his] going.

22Without counsel [is] the making void of purposes, And in a multitude of counsellors it is established.

23Joy [is] to a man in the answer of his mouth, And a word in its season — how good!

24A path of life [is] on high for the wise, To turn aside from Sheol beneath.

25The house of the proud Jehovah pulleth down, And He setteth up the border of the widow.

26An abomination to Jehovah [are] thoughts of wickedness, And pure [are] sayings of pleasantness.

27A dishonest gainer is troubling his house, And whoso is hating gifts liveth.

28The heart of the righteous meditateth to answer, And the mouth of the wicked uttereth evil things.

29Far [is] Jehovah from the wicked, And the prayer of the righteous He heareth.

30The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, A good report maketh fat the bone.

31An ear that is hearing the reproof of life Doth lodge among the wise.

32Whoso is refusing instruction is despising his soul, And whoso is hearing reproof Is getting understanding.

33The fear of Jehovah [is] the instruction of wisdom, And before honour [is] humility!

1Đối đáp êm dịu làm nguôi cơn giận,trả lời xẳng xớm như lửa thêm dầu.

2Lưỡi người khôn truyền thông tri thức,miệng người dại tuôn chảy điên rồ.

3Mắt Chúa Hằng Hữu ở khắp mọi nơi,xét xem người ác lẫn người thiện lành.

4Lưỡi hiền lành là cây sự sống;lưỡi gian ngoa phá hại tâm linh.

5Con cãi lời cha là con ngu dại;con nghe sửa dạy mới là con ngoan.

6Nhà người công chính là kho tàng quý giá,lợi tức người gian tà đem lại đủ thứ rối ren.

7Môi người khôn truyền rao tri thức;lòng người dại thì chẳng được gì.

8Tế lễ người ác là vật Chúa Hằng Hữu chán ghét,nhưng lời người ngay cầu nguyện được Chúa hài lòng.

9Đường người ác bị Chúa Hằng Hữu chán ghét,nhưng người theo đường công chính được Chúa yêu thương.

10Bỏ đường chính bị cực hình chắc chắn,ghét khuyên răn bị tiêu diệt chẳng sai.

11Âm Phủ và Hỏa Ngục, Chúa Hằng Hữu còn thấy suốt.Huống hồ chi lòng dạ loài người!

12Người nhạo báng không đến gần người khôn,vì sợ phải nghe lời quở trách.

13Lòng khoái lạc làm mặt mày vui vẻ;dạ ưu phiền làm héo hắt tâm linh.

14Lòng thông sáng đi tìm tri thức,miệng người ngu ăn nói điên rồ.

15Lòng ưu sầu thấy ngày nào cũng ngày hoạn nạn;lòng vui mừng lúc nào cũng yến tiệc liên miên.

16Thà ít của mà kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu,hơn là có nhiều tài sản mà bối rối cặp theo.

17Thà một bát rau mà yêu thương nhau,hơn là ăn thịt bò với lòng ganh ghét.

18Người nóng tính thường gây xung đột;người ôn hòa dàn xếp đôi bên.

19Đường người biếng nhác như có rào gai ngăn chặn,đường người ngay lành luôn quang đãng hanh thông.

20Con khôn vui lòng cha;con ngu khinh dể mẹ.

21Người dại dột cho u mê là hay;nhưng người khôn lúc nào cũng chọn đường ngay.

22Kế hoạch thất bại, vì không có người tính kế;kế hoạch thành công, nhờ có mưu sĩ tài cao.

23Lời khéo đáp khiến lòng vui vẻ;lời đúng lúc quý giá biết bao!

24Đường sống của người khôn dẫn lên cao;lánh xa âm phủ ở dưới thấp.

25Chúa Hằng Hữu phá nhà người kiêu ngạo,nhưng Ngài giữ vững ranh giới người góa bụa.

26Chúa Hằng Hữu ghê tởm mưu gian ác,nhưng lời trong sạch được Chúa hài lòng.

27Người tham lợi đem rối rắm vào nhà,người khước từ hối lộ được sống an vui.

28Người công chính lựa câu đối đáp cách thận trọng;người gian tà thốt lời độc địa không đắn đo.

29Chúa Hằng Hữu lánh xa người mưu ác,nhưng nghe người công chính cầu xin.

30Mắt thấy cảnh đẹp khiến lòng vui vẻ;tai nghe tin lành xương cốt nở nang.

31Ai chịu nghe phê bình xây dựng,sẽ ở giữa đám người khôn ngoan.

32Ai khước từ khuyên răn, ghét chính linh hồn mình;người nghe lời sửa dạy sẽ trở nên thông sáng.

33Kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu thật là khôn ngoan,đức tính khiêm nhu mang lại vinh dự.
