2 Kings

1Elisha said, “Hear the LORD’s word. The LORD says, ‘Tomorrow about this time a seahof fine flour will be sold for a shekel,and two seahs of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.’”

2Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, “Behold, if the LORD made windows in heaven, could this thing be?” He said, “Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but will not eat of it.”

3Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. They said to one another, “Why do we sit here until we die?

4If we say, ‘We will enter into the city,’ then the famine is in the city, and we will die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let’s surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die.”

5They rose up in the twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, no man was there.

6For the Lordhad made the army of the Syrians to hear the sound of chariots and the sound of horses, even the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us.”

7Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

8When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drank, then carried away silver, gold, and clothing and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent and carried things from there also, and went and hid them.

9Then they said to one another, “We aren’t doing right. Today is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let’s go and tell the king’s household.”

10So they came and called to the city gatekeepers; and they told them, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, not even a man’s voice, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were.”

11Then the gatekeepers called out and told it to the king’s household within.

12The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, “I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.’”

13One of his servants answered, “Please let some people take five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are consumed. Let’s send and see.”

14Therefore they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent them out to the Syrian army, saying, “Go and see.”

15They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the path was full of garments and equipment which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned and told the king.

16The people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seahof fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel,according to the LORD’s word.

17The king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate; and the people trampled over him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

18It happened as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, “Two seahsof barley for a shekel,and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria;”

19and that captain answered the man of God, and said, “Now, behold, if the LORD made windows in heaven, might such a thing be?” and he said, “Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but will not eat of it.”

20It happened like that to him, for the people trampled over him in the gate, and he died.

1Ông Ê-li-sa nói : “Hãy nghe lời của ĐỨC CHÚA : ĐỨC CHÚA phán thế này : Ngày mai, cũng vào giờ này, tại cửa thành Sa-ma-ri, cứ ba chỉ bạc sẽ mua được một thúng tinh bột lúa miến ; cứ ba chỉ bạc sẽ mua được hai thúng lúa mạch !”

2Viên giám mã đỡ tay vua đáp lời người của Thiên Chúa : “Cho dù ĐỨC CHÚA có mở cống trên trời, điều đó liệu có xảy ra không ?” Ông Ê-li-sa nói : “Chính ông sẽ thấy tận mắt, nhưng sẽ không được ăn !”

3Có bốn người mắc bệnh phong đang ở lối vào cửa thành. Họ nói với nhau : “Sao chúng ta cứ ở lại đây mà chờ chết ?

4Nếu chúng ta quyết định vào thành, thì chúng ta sẽ chết trong thành, vì ở đó đang có nạn đói ; nếu chúng ta ở lại đây, thì chúng ta cũng sẽ chết. Vậy bây giờ, đến đây, chúng ta cùng trốn sang trại quân A-ram. Nếu chúng để chúng ta sống, thì chúng ta sẽ sống ; mà nếu chúng giết chúng ta, thì chúng ta sẽ chết.”

5Lúc chập tối, những người mắc bệnh phong lên đường đi đến trại quân A-ram. Nhưng khi tới đầu trại quân A-ram, thì họ chẳng thấy có ai !

6Vì ĐỨC CHÚA đã cho tiếng xe, tiếng ngựa, tiếng một đạo binh lớn vang lên trong trại quân A-ram. Chúng bảo nhau : “Này vua Ít-ra-en đã thuê các vua Khết và các vua Ai-cập vào đánh chúng ta.”

7Vậy chúng đã lên đường, chạy trốn lúc chập tối, bỏ lại lều, ngựa, lừa ; tóm lại, chúng để cả trại y nguyên mà chạy thục mạng.

8Khi tới đầu trại, những người mắc bệnh phong ấy vào một lều ; họ ăn uống, rồi mang bạc, vàng và quần áo đi giấu. Họ trở lại, vào một lều khác, và cũng mang đồ vật trong đó giấu đi.

9Bấy giờ, họ nói với nhau : “Chúng ta làm thế thì không phải. Hôm nay là ngày mang lại tin vui. Nếu chúng ta làm thinh và chần chừ mãi cho tới khi trời sáng, thì chúng ta sẽ mắc tội. Bây giờ, đến đây, chúng ta cùng đi báo tin cho đền vua.”

10Họ vào gọi những người canh cửa thành và báo tin : “Chúng tôi đã vào trại quân A-ram. Chúng tôi chẳng thấy có ai, cũng không nghe tiếng người ; chỉ có ngựa còn cột đó, lừa còn cột đó ; các lều còn y nguyên.”

11Những người canh cửa thành hô lên và báo tin cho đền vua ở bên trong.

12Đang đêm, vua trỗi dậy, nói với các thuộc hạ : “Để ta giải thích cho các ngươi nghe những gì quân A-ram làm để hại chúng ta. Chúng biết chúng ta đang bị đói, nên đã ra khỏi trại để nấp ở ngoài đồng, nghĩ bụng rằng : ‘Họ sẽ ra khỏi thành ; chúng ta sẽ bắt sống họ, rồi vào thành.’”

13Một người trong các thuộc hạ vua trả lời : “Xin để người ta lấy năm con ngựa trong số những con sống sót còn lại đây, –nếu không, những con ấy cũng sẽ cùng chung số phận với toàn đám dân Ít-ra-en sống sót trong thành đang chờ chết– ; chúng ta cứ gửi đi xem sao.”

14Người ta lấy hai cỗ xe, rồi vua sai người đuổi theo quân A-ram, và nói : “Hãy đi, xem thế nào !”

15Họ đã đuổi theo chúng cho đến sông Gio-đan. Trên tất cả quãng đường ấy đều la liệt quần áo và vật dụng quân A-ram đã liệng xuống trong lúc vội vã. Các sứ giả trở về trình lại các sự việc cho vua.

16Dân đi ra hôi của trong trại quân A-ram. Quả thật, theo như lời của ĐỨC CHÚA, cứ ba chỉ bạc sẽ mua được một thúng tinh bột lúa miến ; cứ ba chỉ bạc sẽ mua được hai thúng lúa mạch.

17Vua đã đặt một viên giám mã canh cửa thành, người đó là người đã đỡ tay vua. Dân chúng giẫm lên người đó ở cửa thành, làm cho người đó chết, đúng y như lời người của Thiên Chúa đã nói khi vua xuống gặp ông.

18Quả thật, khi người của Thiên Chúa nói với vua : “Ngày mai, cũng vào giờ này, tại cửa thành Sa-ma-ri, ba chỉ bạc sẽ mua được hai thúng lúa mạch, ba chỉ bạc sẽ mua được một thúng tinh bột lúa miến”,

19thì viên giám mã trả lời cho người của Thiên Chúa : “Cho dù ĐỨC CHÚA có mở cống trên trời, điều đó liệu có xảy ra không ?” Ông Ê-li-sa nói : “Ông sẽ thấy tận mắt, nhưng ông sẽ không được ăn !”

20Điều đó đã xảy ra cho viên giám mã : dân chúng giẫm lên ông ở cửa thành, làm ông chết.
