1And the Lord said to Moses: Go in to Pharao, and thou shalt say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Let my people go to sacrifice to me.

2But if thou wilt not let them go behold I will strike all thy coasts with frogs.

3And the river shall bring forth an abundance of frogs: which shall come up, and enter into thy house, and thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and in the houses of thy servants, and to thy people, and into thy ovens, and into the remains of thy meats;

4And the frogs shall come in to thee and to thy people, and to all thy servants.

5And the Lord said to Moses: Say to Aaron, Stretch forth thy hand upon the streams and upon the rivers and the pools, and bring forth frogs upon the land of Egypt.

6And Aaron stretched forth his hand upon the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

7And the magicians also by their enchantments did in like manner, and the brought forth frogs upon all the land of Egypt.

8But Pharao called Moses and Aaron and said to them: Pray ye to the Lord to take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.

9And Moses said to Pharao: Set me a time when I shall pray for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, that the frogs may be driven away from thee and from thy house, and from thy servants, and from thy people: and may remain only in the river.

10And he answered: Tomorrow. But he said: I will do according to thy word; that thou mayst know that there is none like to the Lord our God.

11And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy house, and from thy servants, and from thy people; and shall remain only in the river.

12And Moses and Aaron went forth from Pharao: and Moses cried to the Lord for the promise, which he had made to Pharao concerning the frogs.

13And the Lord did according to the word of Moses: and the frogs died out of the houses, and out of the villages, and out of the fields:

14And they gathered them together into immense heaps, and the land was corrupted.

15And Pharao seeing that rest was given, hardened his own heart, and did not hear them, as the Lord had commanded.

16And the Lord said to Moses: Say to Aaron, Stretch forth thy rod, and strike the dust of the earth: and may there be sciniphs in all the land of Egypt.

17And they did so. And Aaron stretched forth his hand, holding the rod: and he struck the dust of the earth, and there came sciniphs on men and on beasts: all the dust of the earth was turned into sciniphs through all the land of Egypt.

18And the magicians with their enchantments practiced in like manner, to bring forth sciniphs, and they could not and there were sciniphs as well on men as on beasts.

19And the magicians said to Pharao This is the finger of God. And Pharao heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them, as the Lord had commanded.

20The Lord also said to Moses: Arise early, and stand before Pharao: for he will go forth to the waters: and thou shalt say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Let my people go to sacrifice to me.

21But if thou wilt not let them go, behold I will send in upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy houses all kind of flies: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with flies of divers kinds, and the whole land wherein they shall be.

22And I will make the land of Gessen wherein my people is, wonderful in that lay, so that flies shall not be there: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.

23And I will put a division between my people and thy people: tomorrow shall this sign be.

24And the Lord did so. And there came a very grievous swarm of flies into he houses of Pharao and of his servants, and into all the land of Egypt: and the land was corrupted by this kind of flies.

25And Pharao called Moses and Aaron, and said to them: Go, and sacrifice to your God in this land.

26And Moses said: It cannot be so: for we shall sacrifice the abominations of the Egyptians to the Lord our God: now if we kill those things which the Egyptians worship, in their presence, they will stone us.

27We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness: and we will sacrifice to the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.

28And Pharao said: I will let you go to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness: but go no farther: pray for me.

29And Moses said: I will go out from thee, and will pray to the Lord: and the flies shall depart from Pharao, and from his servants, and from his people tomorrow: but do not deceive any more, in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.

30So Moses went out from Pharao, and prayed to the Lord.

31And he did according to his word: and he took away the flies from Pharao, and from his servants, and from his people: there was not left so much as one.

32And Pharao’s heart was hardened, so that neither this time would he let the people go.

1ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Hãy nói với A-ha-ron : Anh hãy cầm gậy giơ tay trên sông ngòi và hồ ao, làm cho ếch nhái ngoi lên trên đất Ai-cập.”

2Ông A-ha-ron giơ tay trên mặt nước của Ai-cập và ếch nhái ngoi lên, lan tràn khắp đất Ai-cập.

3Các phù thuỷ dùng phù phép của mình cũng làm được như thế : họ làm cho ếch nhái ngoi lên trên đất Ai-cập.

4Pha-ra-ô mới triệu ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron đến và bảo : “Hãy cầu xin ĐỨC CHÚA đuổi ếch nhái đi xa ta và dân ta, rồi ta sẽ thả dân ra để chúng đi tế lễ ĐỨC CHÚA.”

5Ông Mô-sê thưa với Pha-ra-ô : “Xin cho tôi được hân hạnh biết khi nào tôi phải cầu xin cho bệ hạ, cho bề tôi và dân của bệ hạ, để ếch nhái rời khỏi bệ hạ và cung điện, mà chỉ còn ở lại trong sông Nin.”

6Vua trả lời : “Ngày mai.” Ông Mô-sê nói : “Sẽ xảy ra như lời bệ hạ xin, để bệ hạ biết là chẳng có ai bằng ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của chúng tôi.

7Ếch nhái sẽ đi xa bệ hạ và cung điện, xa bề tôi và dân của bệ hạ, và sẽ chỉ còn ở lại trong sông Nin.”

8Ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron ra khỏi cung điện Pha-ra-ô. Ông Mô-sê kêu lên ĐỨC CHÚA về nạn ếch nhái Người đã gây ra để hại Pha-ra-ô.

9ĐỨC CHÚA đã làm như lời ông Mô-sê xin, và ếch nhái chết trong nhà, ngoài sân và ngoài đồng.

10Người ta thu lại từng đống và cả xứ nặc mùi hôi thối.

11Thấy tạm yên, lòng Pha-ra-ô lại ra nặng nề cứng cỏi, vua không nghe lời các ông, như ĐỨC CHÚA đã nói trước.

12ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Hãy nói với A-ha-ron : Anh hãy giơ gậy lên, rồi đập xuống bụi dưới đất cho nó biến thành muỗi trong khắp đất Ai-cập.”

13Hai ông đã làm như thế : ông A-ha-ron giơ tay cầm gậy lên, rồi đập xuống bụi dưới đất ; liền có muỗi trên thân thể người ta và thú vật ; tất cả bụi dưới đất biến thành muỗi trong khắp đất Ai-cập.

14Các phù thuỷ dùng phù phép của mình cũng làm như thế để bắt muỗi phải ra khỏi đất Ai-cập, nhưng không được. Muỗi cứ ở lại trên thân thể người ta và thú vật.

15Các phù thuỷ thưa với Pha-ra-ô : “Đó là ngón tay của Thiên Chúa !” Nhưng lòng Pha-ra-ô vẫn chai đá và vua không nghe hai ông, như ĐỨC CHÚA đã nói trước.

16ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Sáng mai, hãy dậy sớm và đến đứng trước mặt Pha-ra-ô ; này vua ấy sẽ ra mé nước. Ngươi sẽ nói với vua : ĐỨC CHÚA phán thế này : Hãy thả dân Ta ra, để chúng đi thờ phượng Ta.

17Nếu ngươi không thả cho dân Ta đi, thì này Ta sẽ thả ruồi nhặng xuống trên ngươi và bề tôi ngươi, trên dân và cung điện của ngươi. Nhà cửa Ai-cập sẽ đầy ruồi nhặng, ngay cả đất đai nơi chúng ở cũng thế.

18Nhưng trong ngày ấy, Ta sẽ chừa ra đất Gô-sen là nơi dân Ta đang ở, để nơi đó không có ruồi nhặng, và để ngươi biết rằng Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA, Ta ngự giữa đất này.

19Ta sẽ phân biệt dân của Ta với dân của ngươi, nội ngày mai sẽ có dấu lạ đó.”

20Và ĐỨC CHÚA đã làm như thế : một đám ruồi nhặng đen nghịt kéo vào cung điện Pha-ra-ô, vào nhà cửa bề tôi của vua và toàn cõi đất Ai-cập ; cả đất ấy bị ruồi nhặng tàn phá.

21Pha-ra-ô liền triệu ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron đến và bảo : “Các ngươi cứ việc đi tế lễ Thiên Chúa của các ngươi ngay trong đất này !”

22Ông Mô-sê trả lời : “Không nên làm như thế : những gì chúng tôi tế dâng ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa chúng tôi, đều ghê tởm đối với người Ai-cập. Vậy nếu chúng tôi tế dâng trước mắt người Ai-cập những gì là ghê tởm trước mắt họ, thì làm sao họ lại không ném đá chúng tôi được ?

23Chúng tôi sẽ đi ba ngày đường để vào sa mạc tế lễ ĐỨC CHÚA là Thiên Chúa của chúng tôi, như Người phán với chúng tôi.”

24Pha-ra-ô nói : “Ta, ta sẽ thả các ngươi ra, để các ngươi đi tế lễ ĐỨC CHÚA là Thiên Chúa của các ngươi, trong sa mạc ; chỉ có điều là không được đi xa quá. Các ngươi hãy cầu cho ta.”

25Ông Mô-sê thưa : “Khi ra khỏi nơi đây, tôi sẽ cầu ĐỨC CHÚA. Ngày mai, ruồi nhặng sẽ rời khỏi bệ hạ, khỏi bề tôi và dân của bệ hạ. Có điều là xin bệ hạ đừng phỉnh gạt hoài, không chịu thả dân ra để họ đi tế lễ ĐỨC CHÚA.”

26Ông Mô-sê ra khỏi cung điện Pha-ra-ô và khẩn cầu ĐỨC CHÚA.

27ĐỨC CHÚA đã làm theo lời ông Mô-sê xin : Người khiến ruồi nhặng rời khỏi Pha-ra-ô, khỏi bề tôi và dân của vua, không sót lại con nào.

28Nhưng cả lần này nữa, lòng Pha-ra-ô vẫn nặng nề cứng cỏi ; vua không thả cho dân đi.
