Gli scandali; il perdono; la potenza della fede; i servi disutili

1OR egli disse a' suoi discepoli: Egli è impossibile che non avvengano scandali; ma, guai a colui per cui avvengono!

2Meglio per lui sarebbe che una macina d'asino gli fosse appiccata al collo, e che fosse gettato nel mare, che di scandalezzare uno di questi piccoli.

3Prendete guardia a voi. Ora, se il tuo fratello ha peccato contro a te, riprendilo; e se si pente, perdonagli.

4E benchè sette volte il dì pecchi contro a te, se sette volte il dì ritorna a te, dicendo: Io mi pento, perdonagli.

5Allora gli apostoli dissero al Signore: Accrescici la fede.

6E il Signore disse: Se voi avete pur tanta fede quant'è un granel di senape, voi potreste dire a questo moro: Diradicati, e piantati nel mare, ed esso vi ubbidirebbe.

7Ora, chi è colui d'infra voi, il quale, avendo un servo che ari, o che pasturi il bestiame, quando esso, tornando dai campi, entra in casa, subito gli dica: Passa qua, mettiti a tavola?

8Anzi, non gli dice egli: Apparecchiami da cena, e cingiti, e servimi, finchè io abbia mangiato e bevuto, poi mangerai e berrai tu?

9Tiene egli in grazia da quel servo, ch'egli ha fatte le cose che gli erano stato comandate? Io nol penso.

10Così ancora voi, quando avrete fatte tutte le cose che vi son comandate, dite: Noi siam servi disutili; poichè abbiam fatto ciò ch'eravamo obbligati di fare.

Guarigione di dieci lebbrosi

11OR avvenne che, andando in Gerusalemme, egli passava per mezzo la Samaria e la Galilea.

12E come egli entrava in un certo castello, dieci uomini lebbrosi gli vennero incontro, i quali si fermarono da lungi.

13E levarono la voce, dicendo: Maestro Gesù, abbi pietà di noi.

14Ed egli, vedutili, disse loro: Andate, mostratevi a' sacerdoti. Ed avvenne, che come essi andavano, furon mondati.

15Ed un di loro, veggendo ch'era guarito, ritornò, glorificando Iddio ad alta voce.

16E si gettò sopra la sua faccia ai piedi di Gesù, ringraziandolo. Or colui era Samaritano.

17E Gesù prese a dire: I dieci non son eglino stati nettati? e dove sono i nove?

18Ei non se n'è trovato alcuno, che sia ritornato per dar gloria a Dio, se non questo straniero?

19E disse a colui: Levati, e vattene; la tua fece ti ha salvato.

Come venga il regno di Dio

20ORA, essendo domandato da' Farisei, quando verrebbe il regno di Dio, rispose loro, e disse: Il regno di Dio non verrà in maniera che si possa osservare.

21E non si dirà: Eccolo qui, o eccolo là; perciocchè ecco, il regno di Dio è dentro di voi.

22Or egli disse ancora a' suoi discepoli: I giorni verranno che voi desidererete vedere un de' giorni del Figliuol dell'uomo, e non lo vedrete.

23E vi si dirà: Eccolo qui, o eccolo là; non vi andate, e non li seguitate.

24Perciocchè, quale è il lampo, il quale, lampeggiando, risplende da una parte di sotto al cielo infino all'altra, tale ancora sarà il Figliuol dell'uomo, nel suo giorno.

25Ma conviene ch'egli prima sofferisca molte cose, e sia rigettato da questa generazione.

26E come avvenne a' dì di Noè, così ancora avverrà a' dì del Figliuol dell'uomo.

27Gli uomini mangiavano, beveano, sposavano mogli, e si maritavano, infino al giorno che Noè entrò nell'arca; e il diluvio venne, e li fece tutti perire.

28Parimente ancora, come avvenne a' dì di Lot: la gente mangiava, bevea, comperava, vendeva, piantava ed edificava;

29ma, nel giorno che Lot uscì di Sodoma, piovve dal cielo fuoco e zolfo, e li fece tutti perire.

30Tal sarà il giorno, nel quale il Figliuol dell'uomo apparirà.

31In quel giorno, colui che sarà sopra il tetto della casa, ed avrà le sue masserizie dentro la casa, non iscenda per toglierle; e parimente che sarà nella campagna non torni addietro.

32Ricordatevi della moglie di Lot.

33Chiunque avrà cercato di salvar la vita sua la perderà; ma chi l'avrà perduta farà ch'ella viverà.

34Io vi dico che in quella notte due saranno in un letto; l'uno sarà preso, e l'altro lasciato.

35Due donne macineranno insieme; l'una sarà presa, e l'altra lasciata.

36Due saranno nella campagna; l'uno sarà preso, e l'altro lasciato.

37E i discepoli, rispondendo, gli dissero: Dove, Signore? Ed egli disse loro: Dove sarà il carname, quivi ancora si accoglieranno le aquile.

1And he said to his disciples: It is impossible that scandals should not come: but woe to him through whom they come.

2It were better for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones.

3Take heed to yourselves. If thy brother sin against thee, reprove him: and if he do penance, forgive him.

4And if he sin against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day be converted unto thee, saying, I repent; forgive him.

5And the apostles said to the Lord: Increase our faith.

6And the Lord said: If you had faith like to a grain of mustard seed, you might say to this mulberry tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou transplanted into the sea: and it would obey you.

7But which of you having a servant ploughing, or feeding cattle, will say to him, when he is come from the field: Immediately go, sit down to meat:

8And will not rather say to him: Make ready my supper, and gird thyself, and serve me, whilst I eat and drink, and afterwards thou shalt eat and drink?

9Doth he thank that servant, for doing the things which he commanded him?

10I think not. So you also, when you shall have done all these things that are commanded you, say: We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which we ought to do.

11And it came to pass, as he was going to Jerusalem, he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12And as he entered into a certain town, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood afar off;

13And lifted up their voice, saying: Jesus, master, have mercy on us.

14Whom when he saw, he said: Go, shew yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were made clean.

15And one of them, when he saw that he was made clean, went back, with a loud voice glorifying God.

16And he fell on his face before his feet, giving thanks: and this was a Samaritan.

17And Jesus answering, said, Were not ten made clean? and where are the nine?

18There is no one found to return and give glory to God, but this stranger.

19And he said to him: Arise, go thy way; for thy faith hath made thee whole.

20And being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come? he answered them, and said: The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21Neither shall they say: Behold here, or behold there. For lo, the kingdom of God is within you.

22And he said to his disciples: The days will come, when you shall desire to see one day of the Son of man; and you shall not see it.

23And they will say to you: See here, and see there. Go ye not after, nor follow them:

24For as the lightening that lighteneth from under heaven, shineth unto the parts that are under heaven, so shall the Son of man be in his day.

25But first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.

26And as it came to pass in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

27They did eat and drink, they married wives, and were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark: and the flood came and destroyed them all.

28Likewise as it came to pass, in the days of Lot: they did eat and drink, they bought and sold, they planted and built.

29And in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man shall be revealed.

31In that hour, he that shall be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away: and he that shall be in the field, in like manner, let him not return back.

32Remember Lot’s wife.

33Whosoever shall seek to save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose it, shall preserve it.

34I say to you: in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

35Two women shall be grinding together: the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left: two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be keft.

36They answering, say to him: Where, Lord?

37Who said to them: Wheresoever the body shall be, thither will the eagles also be gathered together.
