1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.

2Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;

3knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.

4And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

5But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.

7For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;

8a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.

9But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:

10and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.

12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:

14but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

15Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.

16Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.

17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.

18Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.

23For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:

24for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.

26If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.

27Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

1Gia-cơ, tôi tớ Đức Chúa Trời và Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, đạt cho mười hai chi phái ở tan lạc, chúc bình an!

2Hỡi anh em, hãy coi sự thử thách trăm bề thoạt đến cho anh em như là điều vui mừng trọn vẹn,

3vì biết rằng sự thử thách đức tin anh em sanh ra sự nhịn nhục.

4Nhưng sự nhịn nhục phải làm trọn việc nó, hầu cho chính mình anh em cũng trọn lành toàn vẹn, không thiếu thốn chút nào.

5Ví bằng trong anh em có kẻ kém khôn ngoan, hãy cầu xin Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng ban cho mọi người cách rộng rãi, không trách móc ai, thì kẻ ấy sẽ được ban cho.

6Nhưng phải lấy đức tin mà cầu xin, chớ nghi ngờ; vì kẻ hay nghi ngờ giống như sóng biển, bị gió động và đưa đi đây đi đó.

7Người như thế chớ nên tưởng mình lãnh được vật chi từ nơi Chúa:

8ấy là một người phân tâm, phàm làm việc gì đều không định.

9Anh em nào ở địa vị thấp hèn hãy khoe mình về phần cao trọng mình,

10kẻ giàu cũng hãy khoe mình về phần đê hèn, vì người sẽ qua đi như hoa cỏ.

11Mặt trời mọc lên, nắng xẳng, cỏ khô, hoa rụng, sắc đẹp tồi tàn: kẻ giàu cũng sẽ khô héo như vậy trong những việc mình làm.

12Phước cho người bị cám dỗ; vì lúc đã chịu nổi sự thử thách rồi, thì sẽ lãnh mão triều thiên của sự sống mà Đức Chúa Trời đã hứa cho kẻ kính mến Ngài.

13Chớ có ai đang bị cám dỗ mà nói rằng: Aáy là Đức Chúa Trời cám dỗ tôi; vì Đức Chúa Trời chẳng bị sự ác nào cám dỗ được, và chính Ngài cũng không cám dỗ ai.

14Nhưng mỗi người bị cám dỗ khi mắc tư dục xui giục mình.

15Đoạn, lòng tư dục cưu mang, sanh ra tội ác; tội ác đã trọn, sanh ra sự chết.

16Hỡi anh em yêu dấu, chớ tự dối mình:

17mọi ân điển tốt lành cùng sự ban cho trọn vẹn đều đến từ nơi cao và bởi Cha sáng láng mà xuống, trong Ngài chẳng có một sự thay đổi, cũng chẳng có bóng của sự biến cải nào.

18Aáy chính Ngài theo ý muốn mình, đã dùng lời chân thật sanh chúng ta, hầu cho chúng ta được nên như trái đầu mùa của những vật Ngài dựng nên.

19Hỡi anh em yêu dấu, anh em biết điều đó: người nào cũng phải mau nghe mà chậm nói, chậm giận;

20vì cơn giận của người ta không làm nên sự công bình của Đức Chúa Trời.

21Vậy, hãy bỏ đi mọi điều ô uế, và mọi điều gian ác còn lại, đem lòng nhu mì nhận lấy lời đã trồng trong anh em, là lời cứu được linh hồn của anh em.

22Hãy làm theo lời, chớ lấy nghe làm đủ mà lừa dối mình.

23Vì, nếu có kẻ nghe lời mà không làm theo, thì khác nào người kia soi mặt mình trong gương,

24thấy rồi thì đi, liền quên mặt ra thể nào.

25Nhưng kẻ nào xét kĩ luật pháp trọn vẹn, là luật pháp về sự tự do, lại bền lòng suy gẫm lấy, chẳng phải nghe rồi quên đi, nhưng hết lòng giữ theo phép tắc nó, thì kẻ đó sẽ tìm được phước trong sự mình vâng lời.

26Nhược bằng có ai tưởng mình là tin đạo, mà không cầm giữ lưỡi mình, nhưng lại lừa dối lòng mình, thì sự tin đạo của người hạng ấy là vô ích.

27Sự tin đạo thanh sạch không vết, trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời, Cha chúng ta, là thăm viếng kẻ mồ côi, người góa bụa trong cơn khốn khó của họ, và giữ lấy mình cho khỏi sự ô uế của thế gian.
