Exodus

1In the third month of the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in this day they have come into the wilderness of Sinai,

2and they journey from Rephidim, and enter the wilderness of Sinai, and encamp in the wilderness; and Israel encampeth there before the mount.

3And Moses hath gone up unto God, and Jehovah calleth unto him out of the mount, saying, 'Thus dost thou say to the house of Jacob, and declare to the sons of Israel,

4Ye — ye have seen that which I have done to the Egyptians, and I bear you on eagles' wings, and bring you in unto Myself.

5'And now, if ye really hearken to My voice, then ye have kept My covenant, and been to Me a peculiar treasure more than all the peoples, for all the earth [is] Mine;

6and ye — ye are to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation: these [are] the words which thou dost speak unto the sons of Israel.'

7And Moses cometh, and calleth for the elders of the people, and setteth before them all these words which Jehovah hath commanded him;

8and all the people answer together and say, 'All that Jehovah hath spoken we do;' and Moses returneth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

9And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Lo, I am coming unto thee in the thickness of the cloud, so that the people hear in My speaking with thee, and also believe in thee to the age;' and Moses declareth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

10And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Go unto the people; and thou hast sanctified them to-day and to-morrow, and they have washed their garments,

11and have been prepared for the third day; for on the third day doth Jehovah come down before the eyes of all the people, on mount Sinai.

12'And thou hast made a border [for] the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, going up into the mount, or coming against its extremity; whoever is coming against the mount is certainly put to death;

13a hand cometh not against him, for he is certainly stoned or shot through, whether beast or man it liveth not; in the drawing out of the jubilee cornet they go up into the mount.'

14And Moses cometh down from the mount unto the people, and sanctifieth the people, and they wash their garments;

15and he saith unto the people, 'Be ye prepared for the third day, come not nigh unto a woman.'

16And it cometh to pass, on the third day, while it is morning, that there are voices, and lightnings, and a heavy cloud, on the mount, and the sound of a trumpet very strong; and all the people who [are] in the camp do tremble.

17And Moses bringeth out the people to meet God from the camp, and they station themselves at the lower part of the mount,

18and mount Sinai [is] wholly a smoke from the presence of Jehovah, who hath come down on it in fire, and its smoke goeth up as smoke of the furnace, and the whole mount trembleth exceedingly;

19and the sound of the trumpet is going on, and very strong; Moses speaketh, and God doth answer him with a voice.

20And Jehovah cometh down on mount Sinai, unto the top of the mount, and Jehovah calleth for Moses unto the top of the mount, and Moses goeth up.

21And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Go down, protest to the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to see, and many of them have fallen;

22and also the priests who are coming nigh unto Jehovah do sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them.'

23And Moses saith unto Jehovah, 'The people [is] unable to come up unto mount Sinai, for Thou — Thou hast protested to us, saying, Make a border [for] the mount, then thou hast sanctified it.'

24And Jehovah saith unto him, 'Go, descend, then thou hast come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; and the priests and the people do not break through, to come up unto Jehovah, lest He break forth upon them.'

25And Moses goeth down unto the people, and saith unto them: —

1Tháng thứ ba kể từ khi ra khỏi đất Ai-cập, chính ngày đó con cái Ít-ra-en tới sa mạc Xi-nai.

2Họ đã nhổ trại rời Rơ-phi-đim tới sa mạc Xi-nai, và dựng trại trong sa mạc. Ít-ra-en đóng trại ở đó, đối diện với núi.

3Ông Mô-sê lên gặp Thiên Chúa. Từ trên núi, ĐỨC CHÚA gọi ông và phán : “Ngươi sẽ nói với nhà Gia-cóp, sẽ thông báo cho con cái Ít-ra-en thế này :

4Các ngươi thấy Ta đã xử với Ai-cập thế nào, và đã mang các ngươi như trên cánh chim bằng, mà đem đến với Ta.

5Vậy giờ đây, nếu các ngươi thật sự nghe tiếng Ta và giữ giao ước của Ta, thì giữa hết mọi dân, các ngươi sẽ là sở hữu riêng của Ta. Vì toàn cõi đất đều là của Ta.

6Ta sẽ coi các ngươi là một vương quốc tư tế, một dân thánh. Đó là những lời ngươi sẽ nói với con cái Ít-ra-en.”

7Ông Mô-sê về triệu tập các kỳ mục trong dân, trình bày cho họ biết tất cả những lời ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông.

8Toàn dân nhất trí đáp lại : “Mọi điều ĐỨC CHÚA phán bảo, chúng tôi xin làm theo.” Ông Mô-sê thưa lại với ĐỨC CHÚA những lời dân nói.

9ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Này Ta sẽ đến với ngươi trong đám mây dày đặc, để khi Ta nói với ngươi thì dân nghe thấy và cũng tin vào ngươi luôn mãi.” Ông Mô-sê thưa lại với ĐỨC CHÚA những lời dân nói.

10ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Hãy đến với dân và bảo họ : hôm nay và ngày mai phải giữ mình cho khỏi nhiễm uế, phải giặt quần áo,

11và đến ngày kia phải sẵn sàng, vì ngày kia ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ ngự xuống trên núi Xi-nai trước mắt toàn dân.

12Ngươi sẽ định rõ cho dân một giới hạn chung quanh núi và bảo họ : Anh em phải coi chừng không được lên núi và chạm đến chân núi. Ai chạm đến núi thì sẽ bị giết.

13Không bàn tay nào được chạm đến người đó ; nó sẽ bị ném đá cho chết hoặc bị bắn bằng cung tên, dù là thú vật hay là người, nó sẽ không được sống. Khi tù và rúc, dân sẽ lên núi.”

14Ông Mô-sê từ trên núi xuống với dân và bảo họ giữ mình cho khỏi nhiễm uế ; họ giặt quần áo.

15Ông Mô-sê bảo dân : “Trong ba ngày, anh em phải chuẩn bị sẵn sàng. Đừng gần gũi đàn bà.”

16Đến ngày thứ ba, ngay từ sáng, có sấm chớp, mây mù dày đặc trên núi, và có tiếng tù và thổi rất mạnh. Toàn dân trong trại đều run sợ.

17Ông Mô-sê đưa dân ra khỏi trại để nghênh đón Thiên Chúa ; họ đứng dưới chân núi.

18Cả núi Xi-nai nghi ngút khói, vì ĐỨC CHÚA ngự trong đám lửa mà xuống ; khói bốc lên như khói lò lửa và cả núi rung chuyển mạnh.

19Tiếng tù và mỗi lúc một tăng lên rất mạnh. Ông Mô-sê nói, và Thiên Chúa trả lời trong tiếng sấm.

20ĐỨC CHÚA ngự xuống trên núi Xi-nai, trên đỉnh núi. Người gọi ông Mô-sê lên đỉnh núi, và ông đi lên.

21ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Hãy xuống cảnh cáo dân đừng kéo nhau lên để xem ĐỨC CHÚA, kẻo nhiều người phải lăn ra chết.

22Ngay các tư tế đến gần ĐỨC CHÚA cũng phải giữ mình cho khỏi nhiễm uế, kẻo bị ĐỨC CHÚA đánh phạt.”

23Ông Mô-sê thưa với ĐỨC CHÚA : “Dân không thể lên núi Xi-nai được, vì chính Ngài đã cảnh cáo chúng con rằng : Hãy vạch rõ ranh giới của núi và tuyên bố đó là núi thánh.”

24ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông : “Hãy đi xuống, rồi lại trở lên, đem theo A-ha-ron với ngươi. Còn tư tế và dân thì đừng có kéo nhau lên ĐỨC CHÚA, kẻo bị ĐỨC CHÚA đánh phạt.”

25Ông Mô-sê xuống với dân và nói với họ...
