1 Kings

1When Solomon had finished the building of the LORD’s house, the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

2The LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

3The LORD said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before me. I have made this house holy, which you have built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

4As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances,

5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.’

6But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

7then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

8Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has the LORD done this to this land and to this house?’

9and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore the LORD has brought all this evil on them.’”

10At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the LORD’s house and the king’s house

11(now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and cypress trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

12Hiram came out of Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they didn’t please him.

13He said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” He called them the land of Cabulto this day.

14Hiram sent to the king one hundred twenty talentsof gold.

15This is the reason of the forced labor which King Solomon conscripted: to build the LORD’s house, his own house, Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

16Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, taken Gezer, burned it with fire, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

17Solomon built in the land Gezer, Beth Horon the lower,

18Baalath, Tamar in the wilderness,

19all the storage cities that Solomon had, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

20As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel—

21their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy—of them Solomon raised a levy of bondservants to this day.

22But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

23These were the five hundred fifty chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

24But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.

25Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the LORD three times per year, burning incense with them on the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.

26King Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

27Hiram sent in the fleet his servants, sailors who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

28They came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents,and brought it to King Solomon.

1Khi Sa-lô-môn đã cất xong nhà của Đức Giê-hô-va, cung điện và mọi sự người muốn cất,

2thì Đức Giê-hô-va hiện đến cùng người lần thứ nhì, y như Ngài đã hiện ra cùng người tại Ga-ba-ôn.

3Đức Giê-hô-va phán với người rằng: Ta đã nhậm lời cầu nguyện nài xin của ngươi thưa trước mặt ta; ta đã biệt riêng ra thánh cái đền này mà ngươi đã cất, để cho danh ta ngự tại đó đời đời; mắt và lòng ta sẽ thường ở đó mãi mãi.

4Còn ngươi, nếu ngươi đi trước mặt ta, như Đa-vít, cha ngươi, đã đi, lấy lòng trọn lành và ngay thẳng mà làm theo các điều ta đã phán dặn ngươi, giữ những luật lệ và mạng lịnh của ta,

5bấy giờ ta sẽ làm cho ngôi nước ngươi kiên cố đến đời đời trên Y-sơ-ra-ên, y như ta đã hứa cùng Đa-vít, cha ngươi, mà rằng: Ngươi sẽ chẳng hề thiếu kẻ hậu tự ngươi ngồi trên ngôi Y-sơ-ra-ên.

6Nhưng nếu ngươi và con cháu các ngươi xây bỏ ta, không giữ các điều răn và luật lệ ta đã truyền cho các ngươi, đi hầu việc những thần khác và thờ lạy chúng nó,

7thì ta sẽ truất Y-sơ-ra-ên khỏi đất ta đã ban cho chúng nó, trừ bỏ khỏi trước mặt ta cái đền này mà ta đã vì danh ta biệt riêng ra thánh, và Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ trở nên lời tục ngữ và trò cười giữa muôn dân.

8Còn đền này, dầu cao dường nào, ai đi ngang qua gần nó cũng lấy làm lạ lùng, chê bai, mà rằng: Cớ sao Đức Giê-hô-va có làm cho xứ này và đền này như vậy?

9Người ta sẽ đáp rằng: Aáy vì chúng nó đã lìa bỏ Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời chúng nó, là Đấng đem tổ phụ họ ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô; họ theo các thần khác, thờ lạy các thần ấy, và hầu việc chúng nó; vì cớ đó, Đức Giê-hô-va đã giáng trên họ các tai họa này.

10Xảy ra vừa chẵn hai mươi năm khi Sa-lô-môn đã xây xong hai cái nhà, tức là đền của Đức Giê-hô-va và cung điện vua,

11thì bấy giờ, vua Sa-lô-môn ban cho Hi-ram, vua Ty-rơ, hai mươi thành ở xứ Ga-li-lê; vì Hi-ram có cấp cho Sa-lô-môn gỗ bá hương, gỗ tùng, và vàng, tùy người muốn bao nhiêu.

12Hi-ram từ Ty-rơ đến đặng xem các thành mà Sa-lô-môn đã ban cho mình, nhưng các thành đó chẳng đẹp lòng người,

13và người nói rằng: Hỡi anh, những thành mà anh cho em đó là cái gì? Rồi người gọi các thành ấy là xứ Ca-bun, hãy còn gọi như vậy đến ngày nay.

14Vả, Hi-ram đã gởi cho vua Sa-lô-môn một trăm hai mươi ta lâng vàng.

15Nầy, là cớ sao Sa-lô-môn đã bắt xâu đặng xây cất đền Đức Giê-hô-va và cung điện mình, luôn với Mi-lô, vách thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, Hát-so, Mê-ghi-đô, và Ghê-xe.

16Pha-ra-ôn, vua của Ê-díp-tô, đã đi lên chiếm lấy Ghê-xe, thiêu đốt nó, và giết những dân Ca-na-an ở trong thành, rồi ban thành ấy làm của vu qui cho con gái mình, là vợ Sa-lô-môn.

17Vậy, Sa-lô-môn xây thành Ghê-xe, Bết-Hô-rôn dưới,

18Ba-lát, và Tát-mốt, tại trong đất rừng của xứ;

19lại xây các thành có những kho trữ lương phạn của Sa-lô-môn, những thành để xe cộ, những thành cho quân kỵ, và mọi điều gì đẹp lòng Sa-lô-môn xây cất tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, trong Li-ban và trong cả xứ phục dưới quyền người.

20Hết thảy những người còn sống lại trong dân A-mô-rít, dân Hê-tít, dân Phê-rê-sít, dân Hê-vít, dân Giê-bu-sít, không thuộc về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên,

21tức là các con cháu của chúng nó còn lại ở trong xứ mà dân Y-sơ-ra-ên không đủ sức diệt hết được, thì Sa-lô-môn bắt phụ làm xâu dịch cho đến ngày nay.

22Nhưng Sa-lô-môn không bắt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm tôi mọi; song họ làm binh chiến, tôi tớ, quan trưởng, quan tướng, quan cai xe, và lính kỵ của người.

23Còn về các quan trưởng đặt lên coi sóc các công việc của Sa-lô-môn, số là năm trăm năm mươi người; họ cai trị dân làm công việc.

24Con gái Pha-ra-ôn ở thành Đa-vít đi lên cung mà Sa-lô-môn đã xây cất cho nàng; bấy giờ, người xây cất Mi-lô.

25Mỗi năm ba lần, Sa-lô-môn dâng của lễ thiêu và của lễ thù ân trên bàn thờ mà người đã đóng cho Đức Giê-hô-va, và xông hương trên bàn thờ đã đặt ở trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va. Người xây xong đền thờ là như vậy.

26Vua Sa-lô-môn cũng sắm sửa một đoàn tàu tại Ê-xi-ôn-Ghê-be, gần Ê-lốt, trên mé Biển đỏ, trong xứ Ê-đôm.

27Hi-ram sai những tôi tớ mình, tức những thủy thủ, thông thạo về nghề đi biển, đến trong đoàn tàu đó, đặng giúp tôi tớ của Sa-lô-môn.

28Họ đi Ô-phia đem về cho Sa-lô-môn bốn trăm hai mươi ta lâng vàng.
