Ezra

1Sau các việc ấy, nhằm đời Aït-ta-xét-xe, vua Phe-rơ-sơ, có E-xơ-ra, là con trai Sê-ra-gia;

2Sê-ra-gia con trai của Hinh-kia, Hinh-kia con trai của Sa-lum, Sa-lum con trai của Xa-đốc, Xa-đốc con trai của A-hi-túp.

3A-hi-túp con trai của A-ma-ria, A-ma-ria con trai của A-xa-ria, A-xa-ria con trai của Mê-ra-giốt.

4Mê-ra-giốt con trai của Xê-ra-hi-gia, Xê-ra-hi-gia con trai của U-xi,

5U-xi con trai của Bu-ki, Bu-ki con trai của A-bi-sua, A-bi-sua con trai của Phi-nê-a, Phi-nê-a con trai của Ê-lê-a-sa, Ê-lê-a-sa con trai của A-rôn, là thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm.

6E-xơ-ra nầy từ Ba-by-lôn đi lên. Người là một văn sĩ thạo luật pháp của Môi-se, mà Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã truyền cho. Vì tay của Đức Giê-hô-va phù trợ người, nên vua ban cho người mọi điều người xin.

7Nhằm năm thứ bảy đời vua Aït-ta-xét-xe, có mấy người trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, trong bọn thầy tế lễ, và người Lê-vi, kẻ ca hát, người giữ cửa, và người Nê-thi-min, đều đi cùng người trở lên Giê-ru-sa-lem.

8Tháng năm năm thứ bảy đời vua ấy, E-xơ-ra đến thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.

9Vả, ngày mồng một tháng giêng, người ở Ba-by-lôn khởi hành; rồi ra nhờ tay nhân lành của Đức Chúa Trời phù trợ, người đến Giê-ru-sa-lem ngày mồng một tháng thứ năm.

10Vì E-xơ-ra đã định chí tra xét luật pháp của Đức Giê-hô-va, giữ làm theo, và dạy cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên biết những luật pháp và giới mạng.

11Nầy là bản sao lại chiếu chỉ mà vua Aït-ta-xét-xe giao cho E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ và văn sĩ, thạo biết trong những điều răn luật lệ của Đức Chúa Trời đã truyền cho Y-sơ-ra-ên.

12Vua Aït-ta-xét-xe, vua của các vua, gởi thơ cho E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ và văn sĩ, thạo biết luật pháp của Đức Chúa trên trời. Nguyện ngươi được trọn bình an.

13Ta ra chiếu chỉ định rằng phàm người nào trong nước ta, thuộc về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, thầy cả và người Lê-vi, sẵn muốn đi đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, thì hãy đi chung với người.

14Ta và bảy mưu thần ta sai ngươi đi tra xét về Giu-đa và về Giê-ru-sa-lem, chiếu theo luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời ngươi có trong tay ngươi.

15Ngươi sẽ đem theo mình vàng và bạc mà vua và các mưu thần lạc ý dâng cho Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, có nơi ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem,

16luôn các bạc và vàng mà ngươi có được trong tỉnh Ba-by-lôn, và những lễ vật lạc ý của dân sự cùng thầy tế lễ dâng cho đền của Đức Chúa Trời mình tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

17Ngươi hãy dùng bạc nầy cần mẫn mua những bò đực, chiên đực, chiên con, luôn của lễ chay, và lễ quán cặp theo, rồi dâng lên trên bàn thờ ở nơi đền của Đức Chúa Trời các ngươi, ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

18Còn bạc và vàng dư lại, hễ muốn dùng làm việc gì phải, khá theo ý ngươi và anh em ngươi cho là tốt mà làm thuận ý chỉ của Đức Chúa Trời các ngươi.

19Về các khí dụng đã giao cho ngươi để dùng vào cuộc thờ phượng trong đền của Đức Chúa Trời ngươi, hãy để nó tại trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

20Còn các vật gì khác ngươi cần dùng về chi phí đền thờ của Đức Chúa Trời ngươi, khá lấy các vật ấy nơi kho tàng vua.

21Vậy, ta là vua Aït-ta-xét-xe ra chiếu truyền cho các quan cai kho ở bên phía kia sông rằng hễ vật gì E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ và văn sĩ, thạo biết luật pháp của Đức Chúa trên trời, sẽ cầu cùng các ngươi, các ngươi khá cần mẫn cung cấp cho,

22đến một trăm ta lâng bạc, một trăm bao lúa miến, một trăm thùng rượu, một trăm thùng dầu, và muối không hạn.

23Phàm điều gì Đức Chúa trên trời truyền dạy về đền thờ của Ngài, khá làm cho cần mẫn, e sự tai họa giáng trên nước, trên vua, và trên các vương tử chăng.

24Lại, ta truyền cho các ngươi biết rằng chẳng được phép thâu thuế hay là tiền mãi lộ nơi thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, kẻ ca hát, người giữ cửa, người Nê-thi-nim, hay là nơi những tôi tớ đền thờ của Đức Chúa Trời.

25Còn ngươi, hỡi E-xơ-ra, tùy theo sự khôn ngoan của Đức Chúa Trời ngươi, đã có trong tay ngươi, hãy lập những quan phủ, quan án, là những kẻ thạo biết luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời ngươi để chúng xét đoán cả dân sự ở bên kia sông; còn người nào chẳng biết luật pháp, các ngươi khá dạy cho nó biết.

26Nếu có ai không tuân luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời ngươi và luật lệ của vua, thì các ngươi hãy đoán phạt họ liền, hoặc xử tử, hoặc lưu đày, hoặc tịch biên gia tài, hay là cầm tù.

27E-xơ-ra bèn nói rằng: Đáng ngợi khen thay Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ chúng tôi, vì đã cảm lòng vua toan trang điểm đền thờ của Đức Giê-hô-va tại Giê-ru-sa-lem,

28và khiến cho tôi được ơn trước mặt vua, cùng trước mặt các mưu thần và các quan trưởng có quyền của vua! Vậy, tôi hứng chí, vì tay của Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời tôi phù trợ tôi, và tôi chiêu-tập các trưởng tộc Y-sơ-ra-ên đặng đồng đi lên với tôi.

1Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

2The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

3The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

4The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

5The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:

6This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

7And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

8And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

9For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.

10For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

11¶ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.

12Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.

13I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.

14Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;

15And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

16And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:

17That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

18And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.

19The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.

20And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king’s treasure house.

21And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,

22Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.

23Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

24Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

25And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

26And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

27¶ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

28And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
