1Lòng vua như nước trong tay Chúa Hằng Hữu;Ngài nghiêng tay bên nào, nước chảy về bên ấy.

2Xét việc làm, tự cho ta phải,nhưng Chúa Hằng Hữu xét lòng dạ ta.

3Chúa Hằng Hữu muốn ta chính trực, công bằng,hơn là đem tế lễ hằng dâng.

4Lòng tự đại, mắt kiêu cường,cũng là tội lỗi như phường bất lương.

5Trù liệu và chăm chỉ thì no nê thịnh vượng;bất cẩn vội vàng, thì nghèo đói đương nhiên.

6Gia tài xây dựng bằng lưỡi dối trá,như hơi nước mau tan, như cạm bẫy tử thần.

7Bọn bất lương chối việc công bằng,lòng gian tà cuốn đùa chúng đi.

8Đường lối người phạm tội là quanh co;việc làm người chân thật là ngay thẳng.

9Thà ở nơi góc mái nhà,còn hơn ở chung nhà với đàn bà hay sinh sự.

10Người dữ chuyên làm ác,dù láng giềng, nó chẳng thương xót.

11Khi người nhạo báng bị hình phạt, người dại trở thành khôn ngoan;lúc người khôn được giáo huấn, tri thức người càng tăng.

12Đấng Công Chính quan sát nhà người ác,Ngài ném người ác vào tai họa.

13Bịt tai khi người nghèo khổ kêu ca,lúc ta gào khóc gào, nào ai đoái hoài.

14Quà biếu âm thầm làm nguôi cơn giận;hối lộ kín giấu khiến thịnh nộ tan.

15Công lý đem vui mừng cho người lành,nhưng gây khiếp sợ cho người ác.

16Người từ bỏ lương tri,sẽ rơi vào cõi chết.

17Vui chơi khiến con nghèo nàn;rượu chè xa xỉ không đưa đến giàu có.

18Người ác lãnh tai nạn thay cho người lành,người bất nghĩa lãnh tai nạn thay cho người ngay thẳng.

19Thà ở nơi hoang mạc,còn hơn ở chung nhà đàn bà rầy rà, nóng nảy.

20Trong tay người khôn, tài sản còn lại,người dại hễ có là ăn tiêu hết ngay.

21Hãy công bằng và nhân từ,con sẽ được trường sinh, công lý, và danh dự.

22Người khôn tấn công thành trì người mạnh,triệt hạ pháo đài phòng thủ đối phương.

23Ai kiểm soát miệng, cầm giữ lưỡi,là người giữ mình thoát khỏi rối reng.

24Người nhạo báng luôn kiêu căng, xấc xược;thái độ lúc nào cũng hợm hĩnh khinh khi.

25Dục vọng của người lười biếng sẽ giết chết nó,vì đôi tay của nó không chịu làm việc.

26Người gian tham suốt ngày thèm thuồngnhưng người công chính chia sẻ rời rộng.

27Của lễ người ác đã là điều đáng ghét;tà tâm nó còn ghê tởm đến đâu!

28Lời chứng dối tự nó triệt tiêu,ai nghe theo sẽ bị hủy diệt đời đời!

29Người ác làm cho mặt mày chai đá,người công chính làm cho đường lối mình vững chãi luôn.

30Chẳng ai chống lại được Chúa Hằng Hữu,dù khôn ngoan hay thông sáng, dù thương nghị mưu kế.

31Người ta chuẩn bị ngựa cho ngày chinh chiến,nhưng chiến thắng thuộc về Chúa Hằng Hữu.

1The king’s heart is in the LORD’s hand like the watercourses.He turns it wherever he desires.

2Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,but the LORD weighs the hearts.

3To do righteousness and justiceis more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

4A high look and a proud heart,the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

5The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit;and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.

6Getting treasures by a lying tongueis a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

7The violence of the wicked will drive them away,because they refuse to do what is right.

8The way of the guilty is devious,but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

9It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetopthan to share a house with a contentious woman.

10The soul of the wicked desires evil;his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.

11When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom.When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

12The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked,and brings the wicked to ruin.

13Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor,he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

14A gift in secret pacifies anger,and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.

15It is joy to the righteous to do justice;but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

16The man who wanders out of the way of understandingshall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.

17He who loves pleasure will be a poor man.He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich.

18The wicked is a ransom for the righteous,the treacherous for the upright.

19It is better to dwell in a desert land,than with a contentious and fretful woman.

20There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise,but a foolish man swallows it up.

21He who follows after righteousness and kindnessfinds life, righteousness, and honor.

22A wise man scales the city of the mighty,and brings down the strength of its confidence.

23Whoever guards his mouth and his tonguekeeps his soul from troubles.

24The proud and arrogant man—“Scoffer” is his name—he works in the arrogance of pride.

25The desire of the sluggard kills him,for his hands refuse to labor.

26There are those who covet greedily all day long;but the righteous give and don’t withhold.

27The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination—how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!

28A false witness will perish.A man who listens speaks to eternity.

29A wicked man hardens his face;but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.

30There is no wisdom nor understandingnor counsel against the LORD.

31The horse is prepared for the day of battle;but victory is with the LORD.
