Phần Đất Chia cho Ma-na-se Ở Phía Tây

1Phần đất của đại tộc Ma-na-se (con trưởng nam của Giô-sép) được phân chia như sau: Họ Ma-ki, con trưởng nam của Ma-na-se, cha của Ga-la-át và là một chiến sĩ, lãnh đất Ga-la-át và Ba-san.

2Các họ còn lại của đại tộc này gồm có A-bi-ê-xe, Hê-léc, Ách-ri-ên, Si-chem, Hê-phe, và Sê-mi-đa cũng lãnh phần đất mình. Đó là các con trai của Ma-na-se, cháu Giô-sép.

3Riêng trường hợp của Xê-lô-phát, con Hê-phe, cháu Ga-la-át, chắt Ma-ki, chít Ma-na-se, ông này không có con trai, chỉ sinh được năm cô con gái: Mách-la, Nô-a, Hốt-la, Minh-ca, và Thiệt-sa.

4Các cô này đến gặp Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa, Giô-suê con trai Nun, và các nhà lãnh đạo Ít-ra-ên, thưa rằng: “Chúa Hằng Hữu có phán dặn Môi-se cho chúng tôi một phần đất đồng đều cũng như các anh em khác.” Và họ lãnh được phần đất mình theo lệnh của Chúa Hằng Hữu.

5Có mười phần đất được chia cho đại tộc Ma-na-se, ngoài Ga-la-át và Ba-san phía đông Sông Giô-đan,

6vì các con gái của đại tộc Ma-na-se cũng được nhận phần đất như các con trai. Xứ Ga-la-át thuộc về các con cháu khác của Ma-na-se.

7Biên giới phía bắc của Ma-na-se chạy từ A-se đến Mít-mê-thát ở phía đông Si-chem, rồi chạy về phía nam cho đến đất của người Tháp-bu-a.

8Đất Tháp-bu-a thuộc đại tộc Ma-na-se, nhưng thành Tháp-bu-a ở biên giới lại thuộc về đại tộc Ép-ra-im.

9Biên giới tiếp tục xuống cho đến Suối Ca-na, (trong số các thành Ma-na-se ở phía nam của suối này, có các thành thuộc về đại tộc Ép-ra-im) chạy lên phía bắc của suối này rồi chấm dứt ở biển.

10Đất phía nam sông thuộc về Ép-ra-im, phía bắc thuộc Ma-na-se. Đất Ma-na-se còn giáp bờ Biển Lớn, đất A-se ở phía bắc và đất Y-sa-ca ở phía đông.

11Ngoài ra, trong đất Y-sa-ca và A-se, người Ma-na-se lại được thêm các thành Bết-sê-an, Íp-lê-am, Na-phát và các thôn ấp phụ cận của các thành này; người Đô-rơ, Ên-đô-rơ, Tha-a-nác, Mê-ghi-đô và các thôn ấp của họ.

12Nhưng con cháu Ma-na-se không đuổi nổi các dân này, không chiếm được các thành trên nên dân Ca-na-an cứ ở trong xứ đó.

13Về sau, khi người Ít-ra-ên hùng mạnh hơn, họ bắt người Ca-na-an làm nô dịch cho mình, chứ vẫn không đuổi đi.

14Con cháu Giô-sép đến thưa với Giô-suê: “Chúng tôi là một dân đông vì Chúa Hằng Hữu ban phước cho chúng tôi. Vậy tại sao chúng tôi chỉ được có một phần đất thôi?”

15Giô-suê đáp: “Nếu anh em có đông người, miền đồi núi Ép-ra-im không đủ chỗ sống, sao anh em không đi khai phá rừng của người Phê-rết và Rê-pha-im?”

16Con cháu Giô-sép trả lời: “Miền đồi núi thì hẹp, còn miền đồng bằng thì đầy người Ca-na-an hùng mạnh; ở Bết-sê-an và thung lũng Gít-rê-ên họ có cả xe sắt!”

17Giô-suê nói với nhà Giô-sép, tức là Ép-ra-im và Ma-na-se rằng: “Đúng đó, đông đúc và hùng cường như anh em không thể chỉ có một phần đất được.

18Anh em sẽ có cả miền rừng núi nữa. Dù người Ca-na-an có xe sắt và mạnh đến đâu, anh em cũng sẽ đuổi họ đi, chiếm toàn miền ấy.”

1And this lot fell to the tribe of Manasses (for he is the firstborn of Joseph) to Machir the firstborn of Manasses the father of Galaad, who was a warlike man, and had for possession Galaad and Basan.

2And to the rest of the children of Manasses according to their families: to the children of Abiezer, and to the children of Helec, and to the children of Esriel, and to the children of Sechem, and to the children of Hepher, and to the children of Semida: these are the male children of Manasses the son of Joseph, by their kindreds.

3But Salphaad the son of Hepher the son of Galaad the son of Machir the son of Manasses had no sons, but only daughters: whose names are these, Maala and Noa and Hegla and Melcha and Thersa.

4And they came in the presence of Eleazar the priest and of Josue the son of Nun, and of the princes, saying: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that a possession should be given us in the midst of our brethren. And he gave them according to the commandment of the Lord a possession amongst the brethren of their father.

5And there fell ten portions to Manasses, beside the land of Galaad and Basan beyond the Jordan.

6For the daughters of Manasses possessed inheritance in the midst of his sons. And the land of Galaad fell to the lot of the rest of the children of Manasses.

7And the border of Manasses was from Aser, Machmethath which looketh towards Sichem: and it goeth out on the right hand by the inhabitants of the fountain of Taphua.

8For the lot of Manasses took in the land of Taphua, which is on the borders of Manasses, and belongs to the children of Ephraim.

9And the border goeth down to the valley of the reeds, to the south of the torrent of the cities of Ephraim, which are in the midst of the cities of Manasses: the border of Manasses is on the north side of the torrent, and the outgoings of it are at the sea:

10So that the possession of Ephraim is on the south, and on the north that of Manasses, and the sea is the border of both, and they are joined together in the tribe of Aser on the north, and in the tribe of Issachar on the east.

11And the inheritance of Manasses in Issachar and in Aser, was Bethsan and its villages, and Jeblaam with its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, with the towns thereof: the inhabitants also of Endor with the villages thereof: and in like manner the inhabitants of Thenac with the villages thereof: and the inhabitants of Mageddo with their villages, and the third part of the city of Nopheth.

12Neither could the children of Manasses overthrow these cities, but the Chanaanite began to dwell in his land.

13But after that the children of Israel were grown strong, they subdued the Chanaanites, and made them their tributaries, and they did not kill them.

14And the children of Joseph spoke to Josue, and said: Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to possess, whereas I am of so great a multitude, and the Lord hath blessed me?

15And Josue said to them: If thou be a great people, go up into the woodland, and cut down room for thyself in the land of the Pherezite and the Raphaims: because the possession of mount Ephraim is too narrow for thee.

16And the children of Joseph answered him: We cannot go up to the mountains, for the Chanaanites that dwell in the low lands, wherein are situate Bethsan with its towns, and Jezrael in the midst of the valley, have chariots of iron.

17And Josue said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasses: Thou art a great people, and of great strength, thou shalt not have one lot only:

18But thou shalt pass to the mountain, and shalt cut down the wood, and make thyself room to dwell in: and mayst proceed farther, when thou hast destroyed the Chanaanites, who as thou sayest have iron chariots, and are very strong.
