1Đây là tên và gia phả các nhà lãnh đạo cùng về nước với tôi từ Ba-by-lôn dưới triều Vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe:

2Ghẹt-sôn thuộc dòng Phi-nê-a. Đa-ni-ên thuộc dòng Y-tha-ma. Hát-túc, con Sê-ca-nia, thuộc dòng Đa-vít.

3Xa-cha-ri thuộc dòng Pha-rốt và 150 người namkhác thuộc dòng Phu-rốt và dòng Sê-ca-nia.

4Ê-li-hô-ê-nai, con Xê-ra-hi-gia, thuộc dòng Pha-hát Mô-áp và 200 người nam khác.

5Một người con của Gia-ha-xi-ên thuộc dòng Sê-ca-nia và 300 người nam khác.

6Từ gia đình của Ga-anh: Ê-bết, con Giô-na-than, thuộc dòng A-đin và 50 người nam khác.

7Ê-sai, con A-tha-li-a, thuộc dòng Ê-lam và 70 người nam khác.

8Xê-ba-đia, con Mi-ca-ên, thuộc dòng Sê-pha-tia và 80 người nam khác.

9Áp-đia, con Giê-hi-ên, thuộc dòng Giô-áp và 218 người nam khác.

10Một người con của Giô-si-phia, thuộc dòng Sê-lô-mít và 160 người nam khác.

11Xa-cha-ri, con Bê-bai, thuộc dòng Bê-bai và 28 người nam khác.

12Giô-ha-nan, con Ha-ca-tan, thuộc dòng A-gát và 100 người nam khác.

13Ê-li-phê-lết, Giê-u-ên Sê-ma-gia thuộc dòng A-đô-ni-cam và 60 người nam khác, những người này đến sau.

14U-thai và Xác-cua thuộc dòng Biết-vai và 70 người nam khác.

15Tôi tập họp họ bên dòng sông A-ha-va và cắm trại tại đó trong ba ngày. Khi kiểm kê dân số, tôi chỉ thấy có thường dân và thầy tế lễ; không có người Lê-vi.

16Vì thế tôi cho mời những nhà lãnh đạo Ê-li-ê-se, A-ri-ên, Sê-ma-gia, Ê-na-than, Gia-ríp, Ên-na-than, Na-than, Xa-cha-ri, và Mê-su-lam. Tôi cũng mời Giô-gia-ríp và Ên-na-than, là hai người có kiến thức sâu rộng.

17Tôi cử họ đến gặp Y-đô, một nhà lãnh đạo tại Ca-si-phia, để xin Y-đô, các anh em ông, và những người phục dịch đền thờ gửi đến cho chúng tôi những người có thể đảm nhiệm các chức vụ trong Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

18Nhờ Đức Chúa Trời phù hộ, họ đưa đến cho chúng tôi một người khôn ngoan, tên là Sê-rê-bia, thuộc dòng Mách-li, con Lê-vi, cháu Ít-ra-ên. Cùng đến với ông có các con và anh em ông, gồm mười tám người,

19Ha-sa-bia và Ê-sai thuộc dòng Mê-ra-ri, các con và anh em của họ gồm hai mươi người,

20và 220 người phục dịch Đền Thờ. Quy chế của những người phục dịch Đền Thờ được Vua Đa-vít và các quan trong triều thiết lập; mục đích là để họ phụ tá người Lê-vi. Tên những người này đều được ghi vào danh sách.

21Bên bờ Kênh A-ha-va, tôi yêu cầu mọi người kiêng ăn, tỏ lòng khiêm tốn trước Đức Chúa Trời, xin Ngài cho chúng tôi và con cái, cùng của cải được bình an trong lúc đi đường.

22Tôi nghĩ xin vua cho quân đội theo hộ tống là một điều xấu hổ, vì tôi có nói với vua: Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi phù hộ những ai tìm cầu Ngài, nhưng trừng trịnhững ai từ bỏ Ngài.

23Vì thế chúng tôi kiêng ăn để cầu xin Chúa cho thượng lộ bình an, và Đức Chúa Trời đã nhậm lời.

24Trong số các thầy tế lễ, tôi chọn mười hai người đứng đầu: Sê-rê-bia, Ha-sa-bia, và mười người khác.

25Tôi giao cho họ bạc, vàng, dụng cụ đền thờ, và những phẩm vật mà hoàng đế, các quân sư Ba-by-lôn, các nhà lãnh đạo và toàn dân Ít-ra-ên dâng vào Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời.

26Tôi cân các vật ấy và đưa cho họ như sau: 24 tấnbạc, 3,4 tấn các dụng cụ bằng bạc, 3,4 tấn các dụng cụ bằng vàng,

2720 cái bát vàng nặng khoảng 8,6 ký,2 dụng cụ bằng đồng thượng hạng, có giá trị như vàng.

28Tôi nói với các thầy tế lễ: “Các ông là người thánh của Chúa. Vàng bạc và các dụng cụ này cũng là thánh, vì đã được dâng cho Đức Chúa Trời Hằng Hữu của các tổ tiên.

29Xin các ông giữ cẩn thận, giao lại đầy đủ cho các thầy tế lễ lãnh đạo, người Lê-vi, và các trưởng tộc Ít-ra-ên trong Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.”

30Vậy các thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi nhận vàng bạc, và các dụng cụ Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời để đem về Giê-ru-sa-lem.

31Ngày mười hai tháng giêng, từ Kênh A-ha-va chúng tôi lên đường đi Giê-ru-sa-lem. Đức Chúa Trời gìn giữ chúng tôi khỏi tay kẻ thù rình rập dọc đường.

32Chúng tôi đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, ở đó ba ngày.

33Qua ngày thứ tư, chúng tôi đem vàng, bạc và các dụng cụ vào Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời, cân lại rồi giao cho Mê-rê-mốt, con Thầy Tế lễ U-ri. Bên cạnh ông có những người Lê-vi là Ê-lê-a-sa, con Phi-nê-a, Giô-xa-bát, con Giê-sua, và Nô-a-đia, con Bin-nui.

34Mọi món đều được cân kỹ lưỡng và trọng lượng được ghi lại rõ ràng.

35Chúng tôi, những người lưu đày hồi hương, dâng lễ thiêu lên Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, gồm có mười hai con bò cho tất cả người Ít-ra-ên, chín mươi sáu chiên đực, bảy mươi bảy chiên con, và mười hai dê đực làm lễ vật chuộc tội.

36Chiếu chỉ của hoàng đế được trao cho các tỉnh trưởng và các tổng trấn ở phía tây Sông Ơ-phơ-rát; và họ đã giúp đỡ người Ít-ra-ên lo công việc Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời.

3Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty.

4Of the sons of Pahath-moab; Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.

5Of the sons of Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

6Of the sons also of Adin; Ebed the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

7And of the sons of Elam; Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males.

8And of the sons of Shephatiah; Zebadiah the son of Michael, and with him fourscore males.

9Of the sons of Joab; Obadiah the son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

10And of the sons of Shelomith; the son of Josiphiah, and with him an hundred and threescore males.

11And of the sons of Bebai; Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty and eight males.

12And of the sons of Azgad; Johanan the son of Hakkatan, and with him an hundred and ten males.

13And of the last sons of Adonikam, whose names are these, Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them threescore males.

14Of the sons also of Bigvai; Uthai, and Zabbud, and with them seventy males.

15¶ And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

16Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

17And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

18And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

19And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

20Also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name.

21¶ Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

22For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.

23So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.

24¶ Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

25And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:

26I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents;

27Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold.

28And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the LORD; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers.

29Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

30So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

31¶ Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

32And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

33¶ Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;

34By number and by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.

35Also the children of those that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity, offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering unto the LORD.

36¶ And they delivered the king’s commissions unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors on this side the river: and they furthered the people, and the house of God.
