E-xơ-ra Trở Về Giê-ru-sa-lem

1Dưới triều Vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe, nước Ba Tư, có một người kia tên E-xơ-ra. Ông là con Sê-ra-gia, Sê-ra-gia con A-xa-ria, A-xa-ria con Hinh-kia,

2Hinh-kia con Sa-lum, Sa-lum con Xa-đốc, Xa-đốc con A-hi-túp,

3A-hi-túp con A-ma-ria, A-ma-ria con A-xa-ria, A-xa-ria con Mê-ra-giốt,

4Mê-ra-giốt con Xê-ra-hi-gia, Xê-ra-hi-gia con U-xi, U-xi con Bu-ki,

5Bu-ki con A-bi-sua, A-bi-sua con Phi-nê-a, Phi-nê-a con Ê-lê-a-sa, Ê-lê-a-sa con A-rôn, A-rôn là thầy tế lễ đầu tiên.

6E-xơ-ra là một trong những người lưu đày từ Ba-by-lôn về. Ông là văn sĩ, thông thạo Luật Môi-se do chính Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, ban bố cho Ít-ra-ên. Nhờ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời mình giúp đỡ, nên mọi điều E-xơ-ra thỉnh cầu đều được vua chấp thuận.

7Vào năm thứ bảy đời vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe, ông hồi hương cùng một số thường dân Ít-ra-ên, một số thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, ca sĩ, người gác cổng và người phục dịch Đền Thờ.

8E-xơ-ra về đến Giê-ru-sa-lem vào tháng năm trong năm thứ bảy triều vua.

9Họ rời Ba-by-lôn ngày mùng một tháng giêng năm thứ bảy đời Ạt-ta-xét-xe, và đến Giê-ru-sa-lem ngày mồng một tháng năm, trong sự dẫn dắt và ban ơn của Đức Chúa Trời.

10E-xơ-ra được Chúa phù hộ vì ông chuyên tâm nghiên cứu, thực hành, và dạy Luật Pháp của Chúa Hằng Hữu cho người Ít-ra-ên.

Thư của Vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe Gửi E-xơ-ra

11Vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe có gửi một bức thư cho E-xơ-ra, là thầy tế lễ và văn sĩ đã học và dạy những điều răng và luật lệ của Chúa Hằng Hữu truyền cho Ít-ra-ên:

12“Ạt-ta-xét-xe, vua các vua, gửi cho E-xơ-ra, là thầy tế lễ và thầy dạy luật của Đức Chúa Trời trên trời. Chúc ngươi bình an.

13Ta ban hành sắc lệnh cho phép tất cả thường dân Ít-ra-ên, thầy tế lễ, và người Lê-vi ở trong nước ta được trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem cùng với ngươi, nếu họ muốn.

14Ta và bảy quân sư của ta sai ngươi đi thăm dò cho biết người Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem có tuân giữ luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời đúng như bản sao luật ấy hiện ngươi đang có trong tay hay không.

15Ngươi cũng sẽ chở về Giê-ru-sa-lem số vàng bạc của ta, để các vị quân sư tự ý cung hiến cho Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, Đấng đang ngự tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

16Ngươi hãy lấy vàng bạc thu thập được tại đất Ba-by-lôn, cũng như những lễ vật của kiều dân Ít-ra-ên và các thầy tế lễ tự nguyện hiến dâng lên Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời mình tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

17Ngươi sẽ dùng tiền này mua bò, chiên đực, chiên con, lễ vật cho lễ chay, lễ quán, để dâng trên bàn thờ trong Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

18Vàng bạc còn lại ngươi và anh em ngươi có thể dùng vào việc khác, miễn là hợp với thánh ý Đức Chúa Trời ngươi.

19Ngươi sẽ đem về Giê-ru-sa-lem các dụng cụ đền thờ được giao lại cho ngươi, đặt trong Đền, trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời.

20Nếu Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời cần gì khác, ngươi được phép sử dụng công quỹ cho các chi phí ấy.

21Ta, Vua Ạt-ta-xét-xe, ra sắc lệnh truyền cho các thủ quỹ ngân khố miền tây Sông Ơ-phơ-rát: Bất kỳ những gì E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ và thầy dạy luật của Đức Chúa Trời, cần các ngươi phải sẵn sàng cung cấp,

22cho đến giới hạn 3.400 kýbạc, 18.200 lítlúa mì, 2.100 lítrượu, 2.100 lít dầu; còn muối, không cần giới hạn.

23Hơn nữa, bất cứ điều gì Đức Chúa Trời bảo là cần cho Đền Thờ, các ngươi phải cung cấp chu đáo. Nếu không, Ngài sẽ giáng họa trên đất nước, trên vua, và các hoàng tử.

24Ta cũng nói rõ là các thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, ca sĩ, người gác cổng, người phục dịch Đền Thờ và tất cả những người khác làm việc trong Đền Thờ của Đức Chúa Trời không phải đóng thuế gì cả.

25Còn ngươi, E-xơ-ra, theo sự khôn ngoan Đức Chúa Trời ban cho ngươi, hãy chỉ định phán quan và các viên chức, là những người hiểu biết luật Đức Chúa Trời, để họ cai trị, xét xử toàn dân ở phía tây Sông Ơ-phơ-rát. Nếu có ai không biết luật Đức Chúa Trời, ngươi sẽ dạy cho họ.

26Có ai bất tuân luật Đức Chúa Trời và sắc lệnh của vua, phải lập tức xử trị bằng án tử hình, lưu đày, tịch biên tài sản, hoặc giam giữ tùy trường hợp.”

27E-xơ-ra thưa: “Tôn vinh Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên chúng ta, Ngài đã giục giã lòng vua lo sửa sang Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu tại Giê-ru-sa-lem cho tốt đẹp!

28Và cho tôi được lòng vua, các quân sư, và quần thần! Nhờ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời giúp đỡ, tôi phấn khởi kêu gọi các nhà lãnh đạo Ít-ra-ên xúc tiến việc trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem với tôi.”

1Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

2The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

3The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

4The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

5The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:

6This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

7And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

8And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

9For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.

10For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

11¶ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.

12Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.

13I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.

14Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;

15And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

16And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:

17That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

18And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.

19The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.

20And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king’s treasure house.

21And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,

22Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.

23Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

24Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

25And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

26And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

27¶ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

28And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
