1Cantique des degrés. Éternel, souviens-toi de David, De toutes ses peines!

2Il jura à l’Éternel, Il fit ce vœu au puissant de Jacob:

3Je n’entrerai pas dans la tente où j’habite, Je ne monterai pas sur le lit où je repose,

4Je ne donnerai ni sommeil à mes yeux, Ni assoupissement à mes paupières,

5Jusqu’à ce que j’aie trouvé un lieu pour l’Éternel, Une demeure pour le puissant de Jacob.

6Voici, nous en entendîmes parler à Éphrata, Nous la trouvâmes dans les champs de Jaar…

7Allons à sa demeure, Prosternons-nous devant son marchepied!…

8Lève-toi, Éternel, viens à ton lieu de repos, Toi et l’arche de ta majesté!

9Que tes sacrificateurs soient revêtus de justice, Et que tes fidèles poussent des cris de joie!

10A cause de David, ton serviteur, Ne repousse pas ton oint!

11L’Éternel a juré la vérité à David, Il n’en reviendra pas; Je mettrai sur ton trône un fruit de tes entrailles.

12Si tes fils observent mon alliance Et mes préceptes que je leur enseigne, Leurs fils aussi pour toujours Seront assis sur ton trône.

13Oui, l’Éternel a choisi Sion, Il l’a désirée pour sa demeure:

14C’est mon lieu de repos à toujours; J’y habiterai, car je l’ai désirée.

15Je bénirai sa nourriture, Je rassasierai de pain ses indigents;

16Je revêtirai de salut ses sacrificateurs, Et ses fidèles pousseront des cris de joie.

17Là j’élèverai la puissance de David, Je préparerai une lampe à mon oint,

18Je revêtirai de honte ses ennemis, Et sur lui brillera sa couronne.

A Song of Ascents.

1LORD, remember David and all his affliction,

2how he swore to the LORD,and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

3“Surely I will not come into the structure of my house,nor go up into my bed;

4I will not give sleep to my eyes,or slumber to my eyelids,

5until I find out a place for the LORD,a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah.We found it in the field of Jaar.

7“We will go into his dwelling place.We will worship at his footstool.”

8Arise, LORD, into your resting place,you, and the ark of your strength.

9Let your priests be clothed with righteousness.Let your saints shout for joy!

10For your servant David’s sake,don’t turn away the face of your anointed one.

11The LORD has sworn to David in truth.He will not turn from it: “I will set the fruit of your body on your throne.

12If your children will keep my covenant,my testimony that I will teach them, their children also will sit on your throne forever more.”

13For the LORD has chosen Zion.He has desired it for his habitation.

14“This is my resting place forever.I will live here, for I have desired it.

15I will abundantly bless her provision.I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16I will also clothe her priests with salvation.Her saints will shout aloud for joy.

17I will make the horn of David to bud there.I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.

18I will clothe his enemies with shame,but on himself, his crown will shine.”
