1Được thần khí của Thiên Chúa thúc đẩy, ông A-dác-gia-hu con ông Ô-đết,

2ra đón vua A-xa và thưa : “Xin vua A-xa và toàn thể Giu-đa cùng Ben-gia-min, hãy nghe tôi ! ĐỨC CHÚA ở với các ngài, khi các ngài ở với ĐỨC CHÚA. Nếu các ngài tìm kiếm ĐỨC CHÚA, Người sẽ cho các ngài được gặp ; còn nếu các ngài lìa bỏ ĐỨC CHÚA, ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ lìa bỏ các ngài.

3Một thời gian dài, Ít-ra-en đã không có Thiên Chúa thật, không có tư tế dạy bảo, cũng chẳng có Lề Luật ;

4nhưng trong cơn quẫn bách, Ít-ra-en đã trở về với ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của mình, đã tìm kiếm Người và Người đã cho gặp.

5Trong thời gian ấy, kẻ ra người vào đều không được bình an, vì trăm cay nghìn đắng đã đổ trên tất cả cư dân các nước.

6Dân này nước nọ, thành này thành khác đã đụng nhau ác liệt, vì Thiên Chúa đã dùng đủ mọi thứ khốn quẫn làm cho chúng tán loạn.

7Nhưng các ngài, cứ can đảm lên, đừng để cho tay mình bủn rủn, vì công lao của các ngài sẽ được đền đáp.”

8Khi vua A-xa nghe biết những điều ấy và lời của ngôn sứ A-dác-gia-hu con ông Ô-đết, thì vua được thêm can đảm. Vua liền dẹp bỏ các đồ ghê tởm khỏi toàn cõi Giu-đa và Ben-gia-min, khỏi các thành vua đã chiếm được trong vùng núi Ép-ra-im, rồi làm mới lại bàn thờ ĐỨC CHÚA ở trước tiền đình của ĐỨC CHÚA.

9Vua tập họp mọi người Giu-đa và Ben-gia-min cùng những người thuộc Ép-ra-im, Mơ-na-se và Si-mê-ôn cư trú giữa họ – quả thật có nhiều người đã bỏ Ít-ra-en mà ngả theo vua, khi thấy ĐỨC CHÚA Thiên Chúa vua thờ ở với vua.

10Họ tập họp ở Giê-ru-sa-lem vào tháng thứ ba năm thứ mười lăm triều vua A-xa.

11Ngày hôm ấy họ lấy một phần chiến lợi phẩm đã mang về gồm bảy trăm con bò, bảy ngàn con chiên, đem sát tế dâng ĐỨC CHÚA.

12Họ lấy giao ước mà cam kết sẽ đem hết tâm hồn tìm kiếm ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của cha ông họ.

13Bất cứ ai không tìm kiếm ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, sẽ phải chết, dù là trẻ nhỏ hay người lớn, đàn ông hay đàn bà.

14Họ lớn tiếng thề với ĐỨC CHÚA như vậy, rồi hò reo, thổi kèn và rúc tù và inh ỏi.

15Toàn thể Giu-đa phấn khởi vui mừng về lời thề đó, vì họ đã đem hết cả tâm tình của họ mà thề ; họ hoàn toàn tự nguyện tìm kiếm ĐỨC CHÚA và Người đã cho họ được gặp Người. ĐỨC CHÚA cũng cho họ được tư bề yên ổn.

16Ngay cả bà nội của vua A-xa là Ma-a-kha, cũng bị vua cách chức quốc mẫu, vì bà đã làm một vật kinh tởm kính thần A-sê-ra. Vua A-xa phá huỷ vật kinh tởm đó, tán nhuyễn rồi đem đốt trong thung lũng Kít-rôn.

17Các nơi cao tuy chưa biến khỏi Ít-ra-en, nhưng vua A-xa vẫn suốt đời trọn tình vẹn nghĩa.

18Vua đưa vào Đền Thờ Thiên Chúa các vật thánh mà vua cha cũng như chính vua dâng cúng : bạc, vàng và các vật dụng.

19Không có cuộc giao tranh nào nữa cho đến năm thứ ba mươi lăm triều vua A-xa.

1And the spirit of God came upon Azarias the son of Oded,

2And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: Hear ye me, Asa, and all Juda and Benjamin: The Lord is with you, because you have been with him. If you seek him, you shall find: but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

3And many days shall pass in Israel without the true God, and without a priest a teacher, and without the law.

4And when in their distress they shall return to the Lord the God of Israel, and shall seek him, they shall find him.

5At that time there shall be no peace to him that goeth out and cometh in, but terrors on every side among all the inhabitants of the earth.

6For nation shall fight against nation, and city against city, for the Lord will trouble them with all distress.

7Do you therefore take courage, and let not your hands he weakened: for there shall be a reward for your work.

8And when Asa had heard the words, and the prophecy of Azarias the son of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and took away the idols out of all the land of Juda, and out of Benjamin, and out of the cities of mount Ephraim, which he had taken, and he dedicated the altar of the Lord, which was before the porch of the Lord.

9And he gathered together all Juda and Benjamin, and the strangers with them of Ephraim, and Manasses, and Simeon: for many were come over to him out of Israel, seeing that the Lord his God was with him.

10And when they were come to Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa,

11They sacrificed to the Lord in that day of the spoils, and of the prey, that they had brought, seven hundred oxen, and seven thousand rams.

12And he went in to confirm as usual the covenant, that they should seek the Lord the God of their fathers with all their heart, and with all their soul.

13And if any one, said he, seek not the Lord the God of Israel, let him die, whether little or great, man or woman.

14And they swore to the Lord with a loud voice with joyful shouting, and with sound of trumpet, and sound of comets,

15All that mere in Juda with a curse: for with all their heart they swore, and with all their will they sought him, and they found him, and the Lord gave them rest round about.

16Moreover Maacha the mother of king Asa he deposed from the royal authority, because she had made in a grove an idol of Priapus: and he entirely destroyed it, and breaking it into pieces, burnt it at the torrent Cedron.

17But high places were left in Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

18And the things which his father had vowed, and he himself had vowed, he brought into the house of the Lord, gold and silver, and vessels of divers uses.

19And there was no war unto the five and thirtieth year of the kingdom of Asa.
