Genesis

1And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

2And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

3And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Hai;

4Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

5¶ And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

7And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

8And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

10And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

11Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

12Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

13But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

14¶ And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

15For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

16And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

17Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

18Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

1Ông Áp-ram từ Ai-cập lên miền Ne-ghép, cùng với vợ và tất cả những gì ông có ; ông Lót cũng đi với ông.

2Ông Áp-ram rất giàu, ông có nhiều súc vật và vàng bạc.

3Ông đi từng chặng từ miền Ne-ghép đến Bết Ên, đến nơi lần trước ông đã cắm lều giữa Bết Ên và Ai.

4Ở nơi có bàn thờ ông đã làm trước kia, ông Áp-ram kêu cầu danh ĐỨC CHÚA.

5Ông Lót, người cùng đi với ông Áp-ram, cũng có chiên bò và những chiếc lều.

6Đất ấy không đủ chỗ cho họ ở chung : họ có quá nhiều tài sản, nên không thể ở chung với nhau được.

7Một cuộc tranh chấp xảy ra giữa những người chăn súc vật của ông Áp-ram và những người chăn súc vật của ông Lót. Thời bấy giờ, người Ca-na-an và người Pơ-rít-di đang ở trong miền ấy.

8Ông Áp-ram bảo ông Lót : “Sao cho đừng có chuyện tranh chấp giữa bác và cháu, giữa người chăn súc vật của bác và người chăn súc vật của cháu. Vì chúng ta là anh em họ hàng với nhau !

9Tất cả xứ chẳng ở trước mặt cháu đó sao ? Cháu hãy xa bác đi. Nếu cháu đi về bên trái thì bác sẽ đi về bên phải ; nếu cháu đi về bên phải thì bác sẽ đi về bên trái.”

10Ông Lót ngước mắt lên và nhìn cả Vùng sông Gio-đan : chỗ nào cũng có nước. Trước khi ĐỨC CHÚA tiêu diệt thành Xơ-đôm và thành Gô-mô-ra, thì vùng đó, cho đến tận Xô-a, giống như vườn của ĐỨC CHÚA, giống như đất Ai-cập.

11Ông Lót chọn cho mình cả Vùng sông Gio-đan và đi về hướng đông. Thế là họ xa nhau.

12Ông Áp-ram ở đất Ca-na-an, còn ông Lót ở trong các thành Vùng sông Gio-đan, và di chuyển lều đến tận Xơ-đôm.

13Người Xơ-đôm xấu xa và mắc tội nặng đối với ĐỨC CHÚA.

14ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Áp-ram sau khi ông Lót xa ông : “Ngước mắt lên, từ chỗ ngươi đang đứng, hãy nhìn về phía bắc, phía nam, phía đông, phía tây,

15vì tất cả miền đất ngươi đang thấy đó, Ta sẽ ban cho ngươi và cho dòng dõi ngươi mãi mãi.

16Ta sẽ làm cho dòng dõi ngươi nhiều như bụi trên mặt đất ; nếu người ta đếm được bụi trên mặt đất, thì mới đếm được dòng dõi ngươi !

17Đứng lên ! Hãy đi ngang dọc khắp miền đất này, vì Ta sẽ ban nó cho ngươi.”

18Ông di chuyển lều và đến ở cụm sồi Mam-rê, tại Khép-rôn. Tại đây, ông dựng một bàn thờ để kính ĐỨC CHÚA.
