2 Kings

1In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.

2He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

3And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.

4Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.

5¶ And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.

6But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

7He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.

8¶ Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

9And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

10Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

11But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

12And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.

13And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.

15¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17¶ And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

20And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21¶ And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

22He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

23¶ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.

24And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

25He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.

26For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

27And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.

1Năm thứ hai triều vua Giô-át, con vua Giơ-hô-a-khát, vua Ít-ra-en, thì con vua Giô-át, vua Giu-đa, là A-mát-gia-hu, lên làm vua.

2Khi lên ngôi, vua được hai mươi lăm tuổi và trị vì tại Giê-ru-sa-lem hai mươi chín năm. Thân mẫu của vua là bà Giơ-hô-át-đan người Giê-ru-sa-lem.

3Vua đã làm điều ngay chính trước mắt ĐỨC CHÚA, tuy không bằng vua Đa-vít, tổ tiên vua. Trong mọi sự, vua đã làm như vua cha là Giô-át.

4Tuy nhiên, các tế đàn ở nơi cao không bị phá huỷ ; dân chúng vẫn còn tế lễ và đốt hương trên các nơi cao đó.

5Vậy khi đã nắm vững vương quyền trong tay, vua A-mát-gia-hu hạ sát những thuộc hạ đã hạ sát vua cha.

6Nhưng vua không xử tử con cái những kẻ sát nhân ấy, như đã chép trong sách Luật Mô-sê, chiếu theo lệnh ĐỨC CHÚA truyền rằng : “Cha sẽ không bị xử tử vì con, và con sẽ không bị xử tử vì cha : mỗi người sẽ bị xử tử về tội của mình.”

7Chính vua đã hạ sát mười ngàn quân Ê-đôm tại thung lũng Muối, và trong cuộc chiến vua đã chiếm được thành luỹ Tảng Đá, mà vua đặt tên cho là Gióc-thơ-ên ; tên này vẫn tồn tại đến ngày nay.

8Khi ấy, vua A-mát-gia sai sứ giả đến gặp vua Giô-át con vua Giơ-hô-a-khát, cháu vua Ít-ra-en là Giê-hu, và nói : “Nào đến đây, ta đọ sức với nhau !”

9Vua Ít-ra-en là Giô-át mới sai người đến nói với vua A-mát-gia-hu, vua Giu-đa : “Cỏ gai trên núi Li-băng sai người đến nói với cây bá hương Li-băng : ‘Xin gả con gái của ngài cho con trai tôi.’ Nhưng một con dã thú Li-băng đi qua đã đạp lên cỏ gai.

10Vì đã đánh bại Ê-đôm, nên ông lên mặt. Ông cứ vênh vang mà ở nhà ! Chứ sao ông lại muốn khiêu chiến, để rồi bị ngã gục cùng với Giu-đa ?”

11Nhưng vua A-mát-gia-hu không chịu nghe. Bấy giờ, vua Ít-ra-en là Giô-át mới tiến lên ; vua Giô-át và vua Giu-đa là A-mát-gia-hu đọ sức với nhau ở Bết Se-mét thuộc Giu-đa.

12Giu-đa bị Ít-ra-en đánh bại ; quân Giu-đa chạy trốn, ai về lều nấy.

13Còn vua Giu-đa là A-mát-gia-hu, con vua Giô-át, cháu vua A-khát-gia-hu, thì bị vua Ít-ra-en là Giô-át bắt ở Bết Se-mét, và điệu về Giê-ru-sa-lem. Vua đập phá tường thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, tạo ra một chỗ hổng dài hai trăm thước, từ Cửa Ép-ra-im đến Cửa Góc.

14Sau đó, vua lấy tất cả vàng bạc cùng mọi đồ vật có trong Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA và trong các kho của đền vua, bắt các con tin, rồi trở về Sa-ma-ri.

15Các truyện còn lại của vua Giô-át, những gì vua làm, cũng như chiến công của vua trong cuộc giao chiến với vua Giu-đa là A-mát-gia-hu, đã chẳng được ghi chép trong sách Sử biên niên các vua Ít-ra-en đó sao ?

16Vua Giô-át đã an nghỉ với tổ tiên và được chôn cất ở Sa-ma-ri bên cạnh các vua Ít-ra-en. Con vua là Gia-róp-am lên ngôi kế vị.

17Vua A-mát-gia-hu, con vua Giô-át, vua Giu-đa, còn sống mười lăm năm nữa sau khi vua Giô-át, con vua Giơ-hô-a-khát, vua Ít-ra-en, qua đời.

18Các truyện còn lại của vua A-mát-gia-hu đã chẳng được ghi chép trong sách Sử biên niên các vua Giu-đa đó sao ?

19Người ta âm mưu hại vua ở Giê-ru-sa-lem, nên vua chạy trốn về hướng La-khít, nhưng người ta sai người đuổi theo vua đến tận La-khít và giết vua ở đó.

20Người ta cho ngựa chở vua về Giê-ru-sa-lem và chôn cất vua ở đó, bên cạnh tổ tiên vua trong Thành vua Đa-vít.

21Toàn dân Giu-đa đặt A-dác-gia mới mười sáu tuổi lên ngôi kế vị vua cha là A-mát-gia-hu.

22Chính vua đã tái thiết Ê-lát và trả lại cho Giu-đa, sau khi vua A-mát-gia-hu an nghỉ bên cạnh tổ tiên.

23Năm thứ mười lăm triều vua A-mát-gia-hu, con vua Giô-át, vua Giu-đa, con vua Giô-át, vua Ít-ra-en, là Gia-róp-am, lên làm vua, và trị vì bốn mươi mốt năm ở Sa-ma-ri.

24Vua đã làm sự dữ trái mắt ĐỨC CHÚA, đã không dứt bỏ mọi tội mà vua Gia-róp-am, con ông Nơ-vát, đã phạm và lôi kéo Ít-ra-en phạm theo.

25Chính vua đã tái lập biên giới Ít-ra-en từ Cửa Ải Kha-mát cho đến biển A-ra-va, như lời ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, đã dùng tôi trung của Người là ngôn sứ Giô-na, con ông A-mít-tai, quê ở Gát Khê-phe, mà phán.

26Vì ĐỨC CHÚA đã nhìn thấy cảnh bần cùng của Ít-ra-en phản nghịch ; chẳng có một ai, nô lệ hay tự do, đến cứu giúp Ít-ra-en.

27ĐỨC CHÚA đã không nói là sẽ xoá tên Ít-ra-en, không còn dấu vết trong thiên hạ, nên Người đã cứu họ nhờ tay vua Gia-róp-am, con vua Giô-át.

28Các truyện còn lại của vua Gia-róp-am và mọi việc vua làm, cũng như chiến công nhờ đó vua đánh chiếm và đem Đa-mát cùng Kha-mát về lại cho Ít-ra-en, những truyện đó đã chẳng được ghi chép trong sách Sử biên niên các vua Ít-ra-en đó sao ?

29Vua Gia-róp-am đã nằm xuống với tổ tiên là các vua Ít-ra-en. Con vua là Dơ-khác-gia lên ngôi kế vị vua cha.
