Jeremiah

1And it came to pass, that when Jeremias had made an end of speaking to the people all the words of the Lord their God, for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, all these words:

2Azarias the son of Osaias, and Johanan the son of Caree, and all the proud men, made answer, saying to Jeremias: Thou tellest a lie: the Lord our God hath not sent thee, saying: Go not into Egypt, to dwell there.

3But Baruch the son of Nerias setteth thee on against us, to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, to kill us, and to cause us to be carried away captives to Babylon.

4So Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the soldiers, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the Lord, to remain in the land of Juda.

5But Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the soldiers took all the remnant of Juda, that were returned out of all nations, to which they had before been scattered, to dwell in the land of Juda:

6Men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every soul, which Nabuzardan the general had left with Godolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan, and Jeremias the prophet, and Baruch the son of Nerias.

7And they went Into the land of Egypt, for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: and they came as far as Taphnis.

8And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias in Taphnis, saying:

9Take great stones in thy hand, and thou shalt hide them in the vault that is under the brick wall at the gate of Pharao’s house in Taphnis: in the sight of the men of Juda.

10And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold I will send, and take Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon my servant: and I will set his throne over these stones which I have hid, and he shall set his throne over them.

11And he shall come and strike the land of Egypt: such as are for death, to death: and such as are for captivity, to captivity: and such as are for the sword, to the sword.

12And he shall kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt, and he shall burn them, and he shall carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment: and he shall go forth from thence in peace.

13And he shall break the statues of the house of the sun, that are in the land of Egypt; and the temples of the gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire.

1Sau khi ông Giê-rê-mi-a nói với toàn dân tất cả những lời mà ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của họ, đã tuyên phán, tất cả những lời mà ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của họ, sai ông đến nói với họ,

2thì ông A-dác-gia con ông Hô-sa-gia, ông Giô-kha-nan con ông Ca-rê-ác và tất cả những con người ngạo mạn ấy liền nói với ông Giê-rê-mi-a : “Ông chỉ nói toàn điều dối trá : ĐỨC CHÚA đâu có sai ông đến nói với chúng tôi : ‘Đừng đến Ai-cập mà trú ngụ !’

3Nhưng chính Ba-rúc, con ông Nê-ri-gia, đã xúi ông chống lại chúng tôi để nộp chúng tôi vào tay quân Can-đê cho chúng tôi bị giết và bị bắt đi đày sang Ba-by-lon.”

4Thế là ông Giô-kha-nan con ông Ca-rê-ác và toàn thể các vị chỉ huy quân đội cũng như toàn dân đã không chịu vâng nghe tiếng ĐỨC CHÚA bảo ở lại xứ Giu-đa.

5Ông Giô-kha-nan con ông Ca-rê-ác và toàn thể các vị chỉ huy quân đội đã đem tất cả những người Giu-đa còn sót lại, những người đã trở về đất Giu-đa từ khắp mọi dân họ bị xua đến,

6đó là đàn ông, đàn bà, con trẻ, các con gái của vua và mọi người mà Nơ-vu-dác-a-đan đã giao phó cho ông Gơ-đan-gia con ông A-khi-cam cháu ông Sa-phan, kể cả ngôn sứ Giê-rê-mi-a lẫn ông Ba-rúc con ông Nê-ri-gia.

7Vậy họ đã sang đến Ai-cập bởi vì họ không vâng nghe tiếng ĐỨC CHÚA. Họ đến tận Tác-pan-khết.

8Bấy giờ có lời ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Giê-rê-mi-a ở Tác-pan-khết rằng :

9Ngươi hãy bê những tảng đá lớn và trước mắt những người Giu-đa, ngươi hãy vùi xuống nền đất pha vữa ở cửa đền Pha-ra-ô tại Tác-pan-khết.

10Rồi ngươi hãy nói với chúng : “ĐỨC CHÚA các đạo binh, Thiên Chúa Ít-ra-en, phán như sau : Này, Ta sẽ cho vời Na-bu-cô-đô-nô-xo, vua Ba-by-lon, tôi tớ của Ta đến ; Ta sẽ đặt ngai vàng của nó bên trên những tảng đá Ta đã vùi đi, và nó sẽ giương lều trên những tảng đá ấy.

11Kẻ nào bị gươm đâm thì bị gươm đâm !

12Nó sẽ châm lửa đốt các đền thờ thần Ai-cập ; nó sẽ thiêu huỷ và đưa chúng đi đày, nó sẽ quấn lấy đất Ai-cập giống như người mục tử lấy áo mà quấn vào mình, rồi nó sẽ ra khỏi đó bình an.

13Nó sẽ đập nát các trụ đá của Bết Se-mét trong xứ Ai-cập và thiêu huỷ các đền thờ thần Ai-cập.
