1 Kings

1Then all the ancients of Israel with the princes of the tribes, and the heads of the families of the children of Israel were assembled to king Solomon in Jerusalem: that they might carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, that is, out of Sion.

2And all Israel assembled themselves to king Solomon on the festival day in the month of Ethanim, the same is the seventh month.

3And all the ancients of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark,

4And carried the ark of the Lord, and the tabernacle of the covenant, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, that were in the tabernacle: and the priests and the Levites carried them.

5And king Solomon, and all the multitude of Israel, that were assembled unto him went with him before the ark, and they sacrificed sheep and oxen that could not be counted or numbered.

6And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord into its place, into the oracle of the temple, into the holy of holies under the wings of the cherubims.

7For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and covered the art, and the staves thereof above.

8And whereas the staves stood out, the ends of them were seen without in the sanctuary before the oracle, but were not seen farther out, and there they have been unto this day.

9Now in the ark there was nothing else but the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

10And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the sanctuary, that a cloud filled the house of the Lord,

11And the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

12Then Solomon said: The Lord said that he would dwell in a cloud.

13Building I have built a house for thy dwelling, to be thy most firm throne for ever.

14And the king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: for all the assembly of Israel stood.

15And Solomon said: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and with his own hands hath accomplished it, saying:

16Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel, for a house to be built, that my name might be there: but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

17And David my father would have built a house to the name of the Lord the God of Israel:

18And the Lord said to David my father: Whereas thou hast thought in thy heart to build a house to my name, thou hast done well in having this same thing in thy mind.

19Nevertheless thou shalt not build me a house, but thy son, that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build a house to my name.

20The Lord hath performed his word which he spoke: and I stand in the room of David my father, and sit upon the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised: and have built a house to the name of the Lord the God of Israel.

21And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with our fathers, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

22And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the sight of the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands towards heaven;

23And said: Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven above, or on earth beneath: who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that have walked before thee with all their heart.

24Who hast kept with thy servant David my father what thou hast promised him: with thy mouth thou didst speak, and with thy hands thou hast performed, as this day proveth.

25Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father what thou hast spoken to him, saying: There shall not be taken away of thee a man in my sight, to sit on the throne of Israel: yet so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked in my sight.

26And now, Lord God of Israel, let thy words be established, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David my father.

27Is it then to be thought that God should indeed dwell upon earth? for if heaven, and the heavens of heavens cannot contain thee, how much less this house which I have built?

28But have regard to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplications, O Lord my God: hear the hymn and the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee this day:

29That thy eyes may be open upon this house night and day: upon the house of which thou hast said: My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth in this place to thee.

30That thou mayest hearken to the supplication of thy servant and of thy people Israel, whatsoever they shall pray for in this place, and hear them in the place of thy dwelling in heaven; and when thou hearest, shew them mercy.

31If any man trespass against his neighbour, and have an oath upon him, wherewith he is bound: and come because of the oath before thy altar to thy house,

32Then hear thou in heaven: and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, and bringing his way upon his own head, and justifying the just, and rewarding him according to his justice.

33If thy people Israel shall fly before their enemies, (because they will sin against thee,) and doing penance, and confessing to thy name, shall come, and pray, and make supplications to thee in this house:

34Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them back to the land which thou gavest to their fathers.

35If heaven shall be shut up, and there shall be no rain, because of their sins, and they praying in this place, shall do penance to thy name, and shall be converted from their sins, by occasion of their afflictions:

36Then hear thou them in heaven, and forgive the sins of thy servants, and of thy people Israel: and shew them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people in possession.

37If a famine arise in the land, or a pestilence, or corrupt air, or blasting, or locust, or mildew, if their enemy afflict them besieging the gates, whatsoever plague, whatsoever infirmity,

38Whatsoever curse or imprecation shall happen to any man of thy people Israel: when a man shall know the wound of his own heart, and shall spread forth his hands in this house,

39Then hear thou in heaven, in the place of thy dwelling, and forgive, and do so as to give to every one according to his ways, as thou shalt see his heart (for thou only knowest the heart of all the children of men)

40That they may fear thee all the days that they live upon the face of the land, which thou hast given to our fathers.

41Moreover also the stranger, who is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come out of a far country for thy name’s sake, (for they shall hear everywhere of thy great name and thy mighty hand,

42And thy stretched out arm,) so when he shall come, and shall pray in this place,

43Then hear thou in heaven, in the firmament of thy dwelling place, and do all those things, for which that stranger shall call upon thee: that all the people of the earth may learn to fear thy name, as do thy people Israel, and may prove that thy name is called upon on this house, which I have built.

44If thy people go out to war against their enemies, by what way soever thou shalt send them, they shall pray to thee towards the way of the city, which thou hast chosen, and towards the house, which I have built to thy name:

45And then hear thou in heaven their prayers, and their supplications, and do judgment for them.

46But if they sin against thee (for there is no man who sinneth not) and thou being angry deliver them up to their enemies, so that they be led away captives into the land of their enemies far or near;

47Then if they do penance in their heart in the place of captivity, and being converted make supplication to thee in their captivity, saying: We have sinned, we have done unjustly, we have committed wickedness:

48And return to thee with all their heart, and all their soul, in the land of their enemies, to which they had been led captives: and pray to thee towards the way of their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, and of the city which thou hast chosen, and of the temple which I have built to thy name:

49Then hear thou in heaven, in the firmament of thy throne, their prayers, and their supplications, and do judgment for them:

50And forgive thy people, that have sinned against thee, and all their iniquities, by which they have transgressed against thee: and give them mercy before them that have made them captives, that they may have compassion on them.

51For they are thy people, and thy inheritance, whom thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron.

52That thy eyes may be open to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, to hear them in all things for which they shall call upon thee.

53For thou hast separated them to thyself for an inheritance from among all the people of the earth, as thou hast spoken by Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.

54And it came to pass, when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication to the Lord, that he rose from before the altar of the Lord: for he had fixed both knees on the ground, and had spread his hands towards heaven.

55And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a, loud voice, saying:

56Blessed be the Lord, who hath given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed so much as one word of all the good things that he promised by his servant Moses.

57The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers, and not leave us, nor cast us off:

58But may he incline our hearts to himself, that we may walk in all his ways, and keep his commandments, and his ceremonies, and all his judgments which he commanded our fathers.

59And let these my words, wherewith I have prayed before the Lord, he nigh unto the Lord our God day and night, that he may do judgment for his servant, and for his people Israel day by day:

60That all the people of the earth may know, that the Lord he is God, and there is no other besides him.

61Let our hearts also be perfect with the Lord our God, that we may walk in his statutes, and keep his commandments, as at this day.

62And the king, and all Israel him, offered victims before the Lord.

63And Solomon slew victims of peace offerings, which he sacrificed to the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king, and the children of Israel dedicated the temple of the Lord.

64In that day the king sanctified the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord: for there he offered the holocaust, and sacrifice, and fat of the peace offerings: because the brazen altar that was before the Lord, was too little to receive the holocaust, and sacrifice, and fat of the peace offerings.

65And Solomon made at the same time a solemn feast, and all Israel with him, a great multitude from the entrance of Emath to the river of Egypt, before the Lord our God, seven days and seven days, that is, fourteen days.

66And on the eighth day he sent away the people: and they blessed the king, and went to their dwellings rejoicing, and glad in heart for all the good things that the Lord had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.

1Bấy giờ vua Sa-lô-môn triệu tập bên mình, tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, các kỳ mục Ít-ra-en, gồm tất cả các người đứng đầu các chi tộc cùng các trưởng tộc con cái Ít-ra-en, để đưa Hòm Bia Giao Ước của ĐỨC CHÚA lên, từ Thành vua Đa-vít tức là Xi-on.

2Mọi người Ít-ra-en tập hợp lại bên vua Sa-lô-môn trong tháng Ê-tha-nim, tức là tháng thứ bảy, để mừng Lễ.

3Tất cả các kỳ mục Ít-ra-en đều tới ; các tư tế thì khiêng Hòm Bia,

4và đưa Hòm Bia của ĐỨC CHÚA cũng như Lều Hội Ngộ và tất cả các vật dụng thánh trong Lều lên. Các tư tế và các thầy Lê-vi đưa những thứ ấy lên.

5Vua Sa-lô-môn và toàn thể cộng đồng Ít-ra-en tụ họp lại bên cạnh vua trước Hòm Bia, sát tế chiên bò nhiều vô kể, không sao đếm nổi.

6Các tư tế đưa Hòm Bia Giao Ước của ĐỨC CHÚA vào nơi đã dành sẵn trong cung Đơ-via của Đền Thờ, tức là Nơi Cực Thánh, dưới cánh các Kê-ru-bim.

7Quả vậy, các Kê-ru-bim xoè cánh ra bên trên Hòm Bia, che phía trên Hòm Bia và các đòn khiêng.

8Các đòn này dài đến nỗi từ Cung Thánh, trước Nơi Cực Thánh, có thể nhìn thấy các đầu đòn, nhưng từ bên ngoài thì không thấy được. Các đòn này vẫn còn đó cho tới ngày nay.

9Trong Hòm Bia, không có gì ngoài hai Bia đá ông Mô-sê đã đặt vào đó, trên núi Khô-rếp, khi ĐỨC CHÚA lập Giao Ước với con cái Ít-ra-en vào thời họ ra khỏi đất Ai-cập.

10Khi các tư tế ra khỏi Cung Thánh, thì có đám mây toả đầy Đền Thờ ĐỨC CHÚA.

11Các tư tế không thể tiếp tục thi hành nhiệm vụ được vì đám mây : quả thật, vinh quang ĐỨC CHÚA đã tràn ngập Đền Thờ ĐỨC CHÚA.

12“ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán : Người sẽ ngự trong đám mây dày đặc. Vâng,

13con đã xây cho Ngài một ngôi nhà cao sang. Một nơi để Ngài ngự muôn đời.”

14Rồi vua quay mặt lại chúc lành cho toàn thể cộng đồng Ít-ra-en, trong khi cả cộng đồng Ít-ra-en đều đứng.

15Vua nói : “Chúc tụng ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, Đấng đã ra tay hoàn thành điều chính miệng Người đã phán với Đa-vít, thân phụ ta, rằng :

16‘Từ ngày Ta đưa Ít-ra-en dân Ta ra khỏi Ai-cập, Ta đã không chọn một thành nào trong tất cả các chi tộc Ít-ra-en để xây một ngôi nhà kính Danh Ta ở đó, nhưng Ta đã chọn Đa-vít đứng đầu Ít-ra-en dân Ta.’

17Vậy Đa-vít thân phụ ta đã có ý xây một ngôi nhà để kính Danh ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en.

18Nhưng ĐỨC CHÚA lại phán với Đa-vít thân phụ ta : ‘Ngươi định tâm xây một ngôi nhà để kính Danh Ta ; ngươi định tâm như thế là tốt.

19Có điều là ngươi sẽ không xây nhà ấy, mà con của ngươi, kẻ từ lòng ngươi sinh ra, chính nó sẽ xây nhà để kính Danh Ta.’

20ĐỨC CHÚA đã thực hiện lời Người phán ; ta đã lên kế vị Đa-vít thân phụ ta và ngồi trên ngai Ít-ra-en, như ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán ; ta đã xây nhà để kính Danh ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en ;

21tại đó, ta đã chỉ định một nơi để đặt Hòm Bia có Giao Ước của ĐỨC CHÚA, giao ước Người đã thiết lập với cha ông chúng ta, khi Người đưa họ ra khỏi đất Ai-cập.”

22Vua Sa-lô-môn đứng trước bàn thờ của ĐỨC CHÚA, trước toàn thể cộng đồng Ít-ra-en, giơ hai tay lên trời và

23thưa : “Lạy ĐỨC CHÚA là Thiên Chúa Ít-ra-en, chốn trời cao cũng như nơi đất thấp, chẳng có thần nào giống như Ngài. Ngài vẫn giữ giao ước và tình thương đối với các tôi tớ Ngài, khi họ hết lòng bước đi trước nhan Ngài.

24Ngài đã giữ lời Ngài đã phán với tôi tớ Ngài là Đa-vít thân phụ con, vì điều chính miệng Ngài phán, thì tay Ngài đã thực hiện, như thấy hôm nay.

25Giờ đây, lạy ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, xin Ngài cũng giữ điều Ngài đã hứa với tôi tớ Ngài là Đa-vít thân phụ con là : ‘Bao lâu con cái ngươi giữ đúng đường lối của chúng, là bước đi trước nhan Ta như ngươi đã bước đi trước nhan Ta, thì ngươi sẽ không bao giờ thiếu người ngồi trên ngai báu Ít-ra-en.’

26Vậy, lạy Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, xin thực hiện lời Ngài đã phán với Đa-vít thân phụ con.

27Có thật Thiên Chúa cư ngụ dưới đất chăng ? Này, trời cao thăm thẳm còn không chứa nổi Ngài, huống chi ngôi nhà con đã xây đây !

28Lạy ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của con ! Xin đoái đến lời tôi tớ Chúa cầu xin khẩn nguyện, mà lắng nghe tiếng kêu cầu của tôi tớ Ngài dâng trước tôn nhan hôm nay.

29Xin Ngài để mắt nhìn đến ngôi nhà này đêm ngày, nhìn đến nơi này, vì Ngài đã phán ‘Danh Ta sẽ ở đấy’ ; xin Ngài lắng nghe lời nguyện tôi tớ Ngài dâng ở nơi đây.

30“Xin nghe lời nài van của tôi tớ Ngài và của Ít-ra-en dân Ngài dâng lên ở nơi đây. Từ trời, nơi Ngài ngự, xin lắng nghe ; xin lắng nghe và tha thứ.

31Nếu có ai xúc phạm đến đồng loại, và người ta lấy lời thề độc mà buộc nó phải đến thề trước Bàn Thờ của Ngài trong Đền Thờ này,

32thì từ trời xin Ngài lắng nghe và hành động ; xin phân xử cho các tôi tớ Ngài, là lên án kẻ có lỗi mà bắt nó phải cúi đầu chịu tội ; còn người vô tội thì Ngài minh oan cho họ được vô can.

33Nếu Ít-ra-en dân Ngài bị quân thù đánh bại vì đã xúc phạm đến Ngài, và nếu họ trở lại với Ngài mà tuyên xưng Danh Ngài và cầu xin, khẩn nài trong Đền Thờ này,

34thì từ trời xin Ngài lắng nghe, thứ tha tội lỗi Ít-ra-en dân Ngài và đưa họ về đất Ngài đã ban cho cha ông họ.

35Khi trời đóng lại và không có mưa vì họ đã xúc phạm đến Ngài, nếu họ cầu nguyện nơi đây, tuyên xưng Danh Ngài, bỏ tội lỗi mà trở về, vì Ngài đã làm cho họ khổ cực,

36thì từ trời xin Ngài lắng nghe và tha thứ tội lỗi cho các tôi tớ Ngài và cho Ít-ra-en dân Ngài, để họ thấy con đường lành phải theo, và xin cho mưa nhuần tưới xuống trên phần đất Ngài đã ban cho dân Ngài làm sản nghiệp.

37Khi trong xứ có nạn đói kém, dịch hạch, khi mùa màng hư hoại, khi có nạn châu chấu cào cào, khi quân thù vây hãm một thành nào của họ, trong bất cứ tai hoạ hay bệnh tật nào ;

38mọi lời cầu nguyện, khấn xin của bất cứ ai hoặc toàn thể Ít-ra-en dân Ngài dâng lên, vì thấy lương tâm cắn rứt mà giơ tay hướng về Đền Thờ này,

39thì từ trời là nơi Ngài ngự, xin Ngài lắng nghe và tha thứ ; xin Ngài hành động và ban ơn cho mỗi người tuỳ theo lối sống của họ, bởi vì Ngài biết lòng họ, quả thật chỉ mình Ngài biết rõ lòng con cái loài người,

40ngõ hầu họ kính sợ Ngài, bao lâu họ còn sống trên phần đất mà Ngài đã ban cho cha ông chúng con.

41Ngay cả với người ngoại kiều, không thuộc về Ít-ra-en dân Ngài, nếu nó từ phương xa tới vì Danh Ngài, –

42vì người ta sẽ nghe biết Danh Ngài cao cả, bàn tay Ngài dũng mãnh và cánh tay Ngài giương cao–, nếu nó đến cầu nguyện trong Đền Thờ này,

43thì từ trời nơi Ngài ngự xin Ngài lắng nghe và thực hiện mọi điều kẻ ngoại kiều ấy kêu xin, để cho mọi dân trên mặt đất nhận biết Danh Ngài và kính sợ Ngài, như Ít-ra-en dân Ngài, và để họ biết là Danh Ngài được kêu cầu nơi Đền Thờ con đã xây lên đây.

44Nếu dân Ngài xuất trận chống quân thù theo đường lối Ngài sai họ đi, và nếu họ cầu nguyện với ĐỨC CHÚA, hướng về kinh thành Ngài đã chọn, và Đền Thờ con đã xây kính Danh Ngài,

45thì từ trời xin Ngài nghe lời họ cầu nguyện van xin mà xét xử công minh cho họ.

46Nếu họ xúc phạm đến Ngài –thật thì không người nào mà không phạm tội–, khiến Ngài phải thịnh nộ với họ, mà trao họ cho địch, và những kẻ chiến thắng đày họ sang một xứ thù địch, xa hay gần ;

47nhưng rồi trên đất lưu đày, họ hồi tâm trở lại và van xin Ngài trên đất lưu đày rằng : ‘Chúng con đã phạm tội, đã làm điều gian ác, chúng con thật đáng tội !’

48Nếu trên đất địch, nơi họ bị lưu đày, họ hết lòng hết sức trở về với Ngài, và cầu nguyện với Ngài, hướng về xứ sở Ngài đã ban cho tổ tiên họ, về kinh thành Ngài đã chọn, và Đền Thờ con đã xây kính Danh Ngài,

49thì từ trời, nơi Ngài ngự, xin Ngài nghe lời họ cầu nguyện van xin mà xét xử công minh cho họ,

50và tha cho dân tội xúc phạm đến Ngài cũng như mọi tội phản bội đối với Ngài ; xin Ngài tỏ lòng thương xót họ trước mặt quân chiến thắng, khiến chúng cũng phải thương xót họ,

51vì họ là dân, là gia nghiệp của Ngài, gia nghiệp Ngài đã đưa ra từ Ai-cập, từ giữa lò nung sắt.

52Vậy, lạy ĐỨC CHÚA là Chúa Thượng, xin ghé mắt nhìn đến tôi tớ Ngài đang nài van, đến Ít-ra-en dân Ngài đang cầu nguyện, mà lắng nghe mọi điều họ kêu xin,

53vì, từ giữa mọi dân tộc trên mặt đất, Ngài đã tách họ ra làm sản nghiệp riêng, như Ngài đã dùng ông Mô-sê tôi tớ Ngài mà phán, khi đưa cha ông chúng con ra khỏi Ai-cập.”

54Sau khi dâng tất cả những lời cầu nguyện và nài van ấy lên ĐỨC CHÚA, thì vua Sa-lô-môn phủ phục rồi đứng lên trước bàn thờ ĐỨC CHÚA, giơ hai tay lên trời,

55quay xuống, cất lớn tiếng chúc lành cho toàn thể cộng đoàn Ít-ra-en :

56“Chúc tụng ĐỨC CHÚA, Đấng đã ban cho Ít-ra-en dân Người được nghỉ ngơi, đúng y như Người đã phán, không sai một lời nào trong tất cả những lời tốt lành Người đã dùng ông Mô-sê, tôi tớ Người, mà phán.

57Xin ĐỨC CHÚA là Thiên Chúa chúng ta, ở cùng chúng ta như Người đã ở với tổ tiên chúng ta ; xin Người đừng để mặc, cũng đừng bỏ rơi chúng ta,

58nhưng xin hướng lòng chúng ta về với Người, để chúng ta bước đi trên mọi nẻo đường của Người, và tuân giữ các mệnh lệnh, giới răn và luật pháp Người đã truyền cho tổ tiên chúng ta.

59Ước chi những lời ta khẩn khoản dâng lên ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa chúng ta, ở trước Tôn Nhan Người đêm ngày, để Người bênh vực quyền lợi tôi tớ Người và quyền lợi Ít-ra-en dân Người, ngày này qua ngày khác.

60Như thế mọi dân trên mặt đất sẽ nhìn nhận ĐỨC CHÚA chính là Thiên Chúa, không có Chúa nào khác.

61Các ngươi phải hết lòng với ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa chúng ta, mà bước đi theo các giới răn và tuân giữ các mệnh lệnh của Người như ngày hôm nay.”

62Vua cùng toàn thể Ít-ra-en dâng hy lễ trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA.

63Vua Sa-lô-môn sát tế hai mươi hai ngàn con bò và một trăm hai mươi ngàn con chiên làm lễ kỳ an dâng lên ĐỨC CHÚA ; vua và toàn thể con cái Ít-ra-en cung hiến Đền Thờ ĐỨC CHÚA.

64Ngày hôm ấy, vua thánh hiến phần giữa của Tiền Đình ở trước Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA ; chính tại đây, vua dâng lễ toàn thiêu, lễ phẩm và mỡ của lễ kỳ an, vì bàn thờ bằng đồng trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA quá nhỏ không đủ chứa lễ toàn thiêu, lễ phẩm và mỡ của lễ kỳ an.

65Dịp này, vua Sa-lô-môn cùng với toàn thể Ít-ra-en mừng lễ trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA là Thiên Chúa chúng ta trong bảy ngày, rồi bảy ngày nữa là mười bốn ngày. Thật là một công hội vĩ đại quy tụ từ lối vào Cửa Ải Kha-mát tới suối Ai-cập.

66Ngày thứ tám, vua giải tán dân. Họ cầu chúc vua khang an rồi ai nấy trở về lều mình, lòng vui mừng hân hoan vì mọi sự tốt lành ĐỨC CHÚA đã làm cho Đa-vít tôi tớ Người và Ít-ra-en dân Người.
