1 Kings

1And there passed three years without war between Syria and Israel.

2And in the third year, Josaphat king of Juda came down to the king of Israel.

3(And the king of Israel said to his servants: Know ye not-that Ramoth Galaad is ours, and we neglect to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?)

4And he said to Josaphat: Wilt thou come with me to battle to Ramoth Galaad?

5And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: As I am, so art thou: my people and thy people are one: and my horsemen, thy horsemen. And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: Inquire, I beseech thee, this day, the word of the Lord.

6Then the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and he said to them: Shall I go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or shall I forbear? They answered: Go up, and the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.

7And Josaphat said: Is there not here some prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire by him?

8And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man left, by whom we may inquire of the Lord: Micheas the son of Jemla; but I hate him, for he doth not prophesy good to me, but evil. And Josaphat said: Speak not so, O king.

9Then the king of Israel called an eunuch, and said to him: Make haste, and bring hither Micheas the son of Jemla.

10Then the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda, sat each on his throne clothed with royal robes, in a court by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets prophesied before them.

11And Sedecias the son of Chanaana made himself horns of iron, and said: Thus saith the Lord: With these shalt thou push Syria, till thou destroy it.

12And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, saying: Go up to Ramoth Galaad, and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king’s hands.

13And the messenger, that went to call Micheas, spoke to him, saying: Behold the words of the prophets with one month declare good things to the king: let thy word therefore be like to theirs, and speak that which is good.

14But Micheas said to him: As the Lord liveth, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak.

15So he came to the king, and the king said to him: Micheas, shall we go to Ramoth Galaad to battle, or shall we forbear? He answered him: Go up, and prosper, and the Lord shall deliver it into the king’s hands.

16But the king said to him: I adjure thee again and again, that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord.

17And he said: I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, like sheep that have no shepherd: and the Lord said: These have no master: let every man of them return to his house in peace.

18(Then the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee, that he prophesieth no good to me, but always evil?)

19And he added and said: Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left:

20And the Lord said: Who shall deceive Achab king of Israel, that he may go up, and fall at Ramoth Galaad? And one spoke words of this manner, and another otherwise.

21And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said: I will deceive him. And the Lord said to him: By what means?

22And he said: I will go forth, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said: Thou shalt deceive him, and shalt prevail: a go forth, and do so.

23Now therefore behold the Lord hath given a lying spirit in the mouth of all thy prophets that are here, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.

24And Sedecias the son of Chanaana came, and struck Micheas on the cheek, and said: Hath then the spirit of the Lord left me, and spoken to thee?

25And Micheas said: Thou shalt see in the day when thou shalt go into a chamber within a chamber to hide thyself.

26And the king of Israel said: Take Micheas, and let him abide with Ammon the governor of the city, and with Joas the son of Amalech.

27And tell them: Thus saith the king: Put this man in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and water of distress, till I return in peace.

28And Micheas said: If thou return in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said: Hear, all ye people.

29So the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda went up to Ramoth Galaad.

30And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Take armour, and go into the battle, and put on thy own garments. But the king of Israel changed his dress, and went into the battle.

31And the king of Syria had commanded the two and thirty captains of the chariots, saying: You shall not fight against any, small or great, but against the king of Israel only.

32So when the captains of the chariots saw Josaphat, they suspected that he was the king of Israel, and making a violent assault they fought against him: and Josaphat cried out.

33And the captains of the chariots perceived that he was not the king of and they turned away from him.

34And a certain man bent his bow, shooting at a venture, and chanced to strike the king of Israel between the lungs and the stomach. But he said to the driver of his chariot: Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the army, for I am grievously wounded.

35And the battle was fought that day, and the king of Israel stood in his chariot against the Syrians, and he died in the evening: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

36And the herald proclaimed through all the army before the sun set, saying: Let every man return to his own city, and to his own country.

37And the king died, and was carried into Samaria: and they buried the king in Samaria.

38And they washed his chariot in the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and they washed the reins, according to the word of the Lord which he had spoken.

39But the rest of the acts of Achab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory that he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

40So Achab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his stead.

41But Josaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Juda in the fourth year of Achab king of Israel.

42He was five and thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned five and twenty years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Azuba the daughter of Salai.

43And he walked in all the way of Asa his father, and he declined not from it: and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

44Nevertheless he took not away the high places: for as Set the people offered sacrifices and burnt incense in the high places.

45And Josaphat had peace with the king of Israel.

46But the rest of the acts of Josaphat, and his works which he did, and his batties, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda?

47And the remnant also of the effeminate, who remained in the days of Asa his father, he took out of the land.

48And there was then no king appointed in Edom.

49But king Josaphat made navies on the sea, to sail into Ophir for gold: but they could not go, for the ships were broken in Asiongaber.

50Then Ochozias the ton of Achab said to Josaphat: Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. And Josaphat would not.

51And Josaphat slept with his fathers. and was buried with them in the city of David his father: and Joram his son reigned in his stead.

52And Ochozias the son of Achab began to reign over Israel in Samaria, in the seventeenth gear of Josaphat king of Juda, and he reigned over Israel two years,

53And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father and his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who made Israel to sin.

54He served also Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked the Lord the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

4Rồi vua nói với vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát : “Ngài có đi tấn công Ra-mốt Ga-la-át với tôi không ?” Vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát nói với vua Ít-ra-en : “Tôi cũng làm như ngài, dân tôi cũng như dân ngài, ngựa của tôi cũng như ngựa của ngài.”

5Nhưng vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát nói với vua Ít-ra-en : “Hôm nay, xin ngài thỉnh vấn sấm ngôn của ĐỨC CHÚA.”

6Vua Ít-ra-en tập họp các ngôn sứ, khoảng bốn trăm người, và nói với họ : “Ta có phải đi đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át không, hay là phải ngưng lại ?” Họ thưa : “Xin vua cứ lên, Chúa sẽ trao thành ấy vào tay vua.”

7Nhưng vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát nói : “Ở đây không có ngôn sứ nào khác của ĐỨC CHÚA nữa, để chúng ta nhờ ông thỉnh vấn cho hay sao ?”

8Vua Ít-ra-en trả lời vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát : “Còn một người nữa chúng ta có thể nhờ thỉnh vấn ĐỨC CHÚA được, nhưng tôi ghét ông ta, vì ông ta không hề tiên báo cho tôi điều lành, mà chỉ toàn điều dữ. Đó là Mi-kha-giơ-hu, con của Gim-la.” Vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát nói : “Đức vua đừng nói như vậy.”

9Vua Ít-ra-en gọi một hoạn quan tới và bảo : “Mau đưa Mi-kha-giơ-hu, con của Gim-la, đến đây.”

10Vua Ít-ra-en và Giơ-hô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, lúc ấy mỗi vua đang ngồi trên ngai, mình mặc cẩm bào, ở sân lúa tại cổng thành Sa-ma-ri ; và tất cả các ngôn sứ đều đang nói liên miên trước mặt các vua.

11Ông Xít-ki-gia, con ông Cơ-na-a-na, đã làm một cặp sừng bằng sắt và nói : “ĐỨC CHÚA phán như sau : Với những chiếc sừng này, ngươi sẽ húc A-ram cho đến khi tiêu diệt chúng.”

12Và tất cả các ngôn sứ đều nói tiên tri như thế mà rằng : “Xin vua cứ đi lên Ra-mốt Ga-la-át là sẽ gặp may. ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ trao thành ấy vào tay vua.”

13Người được sai đi mời ông Mi-kha-giơ-hu nói với ông rằng : “Này, lời các ngôn sứ đều đồng thanh báo cho vua điều may ; mong sao lời của ông cũng giống như lời của họ. Xin ông cũng báo điều may.”

14Ông Mi-kha-giơ-hu nói : “Có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống ! ĐỨC CHÚA phán sao, tôi sẽ nói vậy.”

15Rồi ông vào gặp vua, vua nói với ông : “Này, Mi-kha-giơ-hu, chúng ta có nên đi đánh Ra-mốt Ga-la-át không, hay là ngưng lại ?” Ông thưa với vua : “Xin vua cứ lên, vua sẽ gặp may. ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ trao thành ấy vào tay vua.”

16Vua liền nói với ông : “Đã bao lần, ta thề buộc ngươi là, nhân danh ĐỨC CHÚA, ngươi chỉ được nói thật với ta ?”

17Ai nấy hãy về nhà bình an !”

18Vua Ít-ra-en nói với vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát : “Tôi đã chẳng nói với ngài rằng : Ông ta không hề tiên báo cho tôi điều may, mà chỉ toàn điều rủi đó sao ?”

19Ông Mi-kha-giơ-hu lại nói : “Vì thế, hãy nghe lời ĐỨC CHÚA : tôi đã thấy ĐỨC CHÚA ngự trên ngai, và toàn thể đạo thiên binh đứng chầu Người ở hai bên tả hữu.

20Và ĐỨC CHÚA phán : ‘Ai sẽ dụ A-kháp tiến lên, cho nó gục ngã tại Ra-mốt Ga-la-át ?’ Và kẻ nói thế này, người nói thế kia.

21Bấy giờ thần khí xuất hiện, đứng trước ĐỨC CHÚA và nói : ‘Tôi sẽ dụ y.’ ĐỨC CHÚA hỏi thần khí : ‘Bằng cách nào ?’

22Thần khí đáp : ‘Tôi sẽ xuất hiện làm thần khí dối trá trên môi miệng tất cả các ngôn sứ của vua ấy.’ ĐỨC CHÚA liền phán : ‘Ngươi sẽ lừa dối được nó và ngươi sẽ thành công. Cứ đi và làm như thế.’

23Này ĐỨC CHÚA đã đặt thần khí dối trá trên môi miệng tất cả những ngôn sứ này của vua, vì ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán quyết điều dữ hại vua.”

24Bấy giờ Xít-ki-gia-hu, con ông Cơ-na-a-na, đến gần vả vào mặt ông Mi-kha-giơ-hu và nói : “Thần khí của ĐỨC CHÚA từ nơi ta đã qua ngả nào mà nói với mi ?”

25Ông Mi-kha-giơ-hu nói : “Rồi ngươi sẽ thấy vào ngày ngươi phải chui rúc hết phòng này sang phòng khác, để lẩn trốn.”

26Vua Ít-ra-en liền nói : “Bắt lấy Mi-kha-giơ-hu và dẫn nó tới thị trưởng A-môn, và tới hoàng tử Giô-át.

27Ngươi sẽ nói thế này : Đức vua nói như sau : Giam tên này vào nhà tù và cho nó ăn uống ít thôi, cho tới khi ta về bình an.”

28Ông Mi-kha-giơ-hu liền nói : “Nếu vua trở về bình an, thì ĐỨC CHÚA đã không dùng tôi mà phán.” Ông nói tiếp : “Toàn thể các dân tộc, xin hãy nghe cho !”

29Vua Ít-ra-en và Giơ-hô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, lên Ra-mốt Ga-la-át.

30Vua Ít-ra-en nói với vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát : “Tôi sẽ cải trang và ra trận ; còn ngài, thì xin cứ mặc áo của ngài.” Vua Ít-ra-en cải trang và ra trận.

31Vua A-ram đã ra lệnh cho ba mươi hai người chỉ huy chiến xa của vua rằng : “Các ngươi không đánh ai, dù nhỏ hay lớn, chỉ đánh một mình vua Ít-ra-en thôi.”

32Khi các người chỉ huy chiến xa nhìn thấy vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát thì nói : “Đúng là vua Ít-ra-en đây rồi,” và dồn lực lượng tấn công vua, nhưng vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát thét lên.

33Khi thấy rằng đó không phải là vua Ít-ra-en thì các người chỉ huy chiến xa không đuổi theo nữa.

34Một người giương cung bắn đại, lại trúng ngay vua Ít-ra-en vào giữa khớp của áo giáp. Vua liền bảo người đánh xe : “Quay xe lại, đưa ta ra khỏi chiến trường, vì ta đã bị thương.”

35Nhưng trận chiến hôm ấy trở nên ác liệt, và người ta đã cho vua đứng trên xe, đối diện với quân A-ram, và đến chiều thì vua chết ; máu từ vết thương chảy cả vào lòng xe.

36Lúc mặt trời lặn, có tiếng kêu vang lên khắp trại rằng : “Ai nấy về thành mình, ai nấy về xứ mình !

37Vì vua đã chết !” Họ đưa vua về Sa-ma-ri và chôn cất vua tại đó.

38Người ta xối nước rửa xe, cạnh hồ nước ở Sa-ma-ri ; chó liếm máu vua và gái điếm tắm rửa trong hồ ấy, đúng như lời ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán.

39Các truyện còn lại về vua A-kháp, các việc vua làm, điện ngà vua xây, các thành vua kiến thiết, đều đã được ghi chép trong sách Sử Biên Niên các vua Ít-ra-en.

40Vua A-kháp an nghỉ với tổ tiên. Con vua là A-khát-gia-hu lên ngôi kế vị.

41Năm thứ tư triều A-kháp, vua Ít-ra-en, Giơ-hô-sa-phát con vua A-xa lên làm vua Giu-đa.

42Giơ-hô-sa-phát lên ngôi vua khi được ba mươi lăm tuổi, vua trị vì tại Giê-ru-sa-lem hai mươi lăm năm. Thân mẫu vua là bà A-du-va, ái nữ ông Sin-khi.

43Vua hoàn toàn theo đường lối phụ vương A-xa đã đi, không sai lệch, tức là làm điều ngay chính trước mắt ĐỨC CHÚA.

44Thế nhưng, các nơi cao không biến đi hết, dân chúng vẫn tiếp tục tế lễ và dâng hương tại các nơi đó.

45Vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát giao hảo với vua Ít-ra-en.

46Các truyện còn lại về vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát, các chiến công của vua, các cuộc chiến vua đã thực hiện, đã chẳng được ghi chép trong sách Sử biên niên các vua Giu-đa đó sao ?

47Vua còn quét sạch khỏi xứ bọn trai điếm phục vụ đền thần còn sót lại từ thời phụ vương A-xa.

48Bấy giờ ở Ê-đôm không có vua ; nhưng có một vị thủ lãnh nhiếp chính.

49Vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát đóng một đoàn tàu Tác-sít để đi Ô-phia tìm vàng, nhưng không đi được, vì tàu bị vỡ tại E-xi-ôn Ghe-ve.

50Bấy giờ vua A-khát-gia-hu, con vua A-kháp, nói với vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát : “Xin để cho tôi tớ của tôi cùng đi tàu với tôi tớ của ngài.” Nhưng vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát không muốn.

51Vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát an nghỉ với tổ tiên, và được chôn cất với các ngài trong Thành vua Đa-vít, tổ phụ vua. Con vua là Giơ-hô-ram lên ngôi kế vị.

52Năm thứ mười bảy triều vua Giơ-hô-sa-phát cai trị Giu-đa, A-khát-gia-hu con vua A-kháp lên làm vua cai trị Ít-ra-en tại Sa-ma-ri ; vua trị vì Ít-ra-en được hai năm.

53Vua làm điều dữ trái mắt ĐỨC CHÚA, vì vua theo đường lối của thân phụ và thân mẫu vua, đường lối của con ông Nơ-vát là Gia-róp-am, người đã lôi kéo Ít-ra-en phạm tội.

54Vua làm tôi Ba-an và phục lạy nó ; vua chọc giận ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, y như thân phụ vua đã làm.
