Il Servitore del Signore, luce e salvezza delle genti

1ASCOLTATEMI, isole; e state attenti, o popoli lontani. Il Signore mi ha chiamato infin dal ventre, egli ha mentovato il mio nome infin dalle interiora di mia madre.

2Ed ha renduta la mia bocca simile ad una spada acuta; egli mi ha nascosto all'ombra della sua mano, e mi ha fatto essere a guisa di saetta forbita; egli mi ha riposto nel suo turcasso;

3e mi ha detto: Tu sei il mio Servitore; Israele è quello, nel quale io mi glorificherò in te.

4Ed io ho detto: Io mi sono affaticato a vuoto; invano, ed indarno ho consumata la mia forza; ma pur certo la mia ragione è appo il Signore, e l'opera mia appo l'Iddio mio.

5Ora dunque, avendomi detto il Signore, che mi ha formato infin dal ventre, acciocchè gli sia servitore, che io gli riconduca Giacobbe; benchè Israele non si raccolga, pur sarò glorificato appo il Signore, e l'Iddio mio sarà la mia forza.

6Ed egli mi ha detto: Egli è leggier cosa che tu mi sii servitore, per ridirizzare le tribù di Giacobbe, e per ricondurre i riserbati d'Israele; perciò, io ti ho dato per luce delle genti; per esser la mia salute infino alle estremità della terra.

7Così ha detto il Signore, il Rendentore d'Israele, il suo Santo, a colui ch'è sprezzato della persona, ed abbominevole alla nazione, al servo di quelli che signoreggiano: I re ti vedranno, e si leveranno; i principi ancora, e s'inchineranno; per cagion del Signore, ch'è fedele, del Santo d'Israele, che ti ha eletto.

8Così ha detto il Signore: Io ti ho esaudito nel tempo della benevolenza, e ti ho aiutato nel giorno della salute; anche ti guarderò, e ti darò per patto del popolo, per ristabilir la terra, per far possedere le eredità desolate;

9per dire a' prigioni: Uscite, ed a quelli che sono nelle tenebre: Mostratevi. Essi pastureranno in su le vie, ed il lor pasco sarà sopra ogni luogo elevato.

10Non avranno fame, nè sete; e l'arsura ed il sole non li percoterà; perciocchè colui che ha misericordia di loro li condurrà, e li menerà alle fonti delle acque.

11Ed io ridurrò tutti i miei monti in cammini, e le mie strade saranno rilevate.

12Ecco, gli uni verranno da lontano; ed ecco, gli altri verranno dal Settentrione, e dall'Occidente; e gli altri dal paese de' Sinei.

13Giubilate, o cieli; e tu, terra, festeggia; e voi, monti, risonate grida di allegrezza; perciocchè il Signore ha consolato il suo popolo, ed ha avuta pietà de' suoi poveri afflitti.

14Or Sion ha detto: Il Signore mi ha abbandonata, ed il Signore mi ha dimenticata.

15Dimenticherà la donna il suo figliuolino che poppa, per non aver pietà del figliuol del suo seno? ma, avvegnachè le madri dimenticassero i lor figliuoli, non però ti dimenticherò io.

16Ecco, io ti ho scolpita sopra le palme delle mani; le tue mura son del continuo nel mio cospetto.

17I tuoi figliuoli verranno in fretta; e quelli che ti distruggevano, e disertavano, usciranno fuor di te.

18Alza d'ogn'intorno i tuoi occhi, e vedi; tutti costoro si son radunati, e son venuti a te. Come io vivo, dice il Signore, tu ti rivestirai di costoro come di un ornamento, e te ne fregerai a guisa di sposa.

19Perciocchè le tue ruine, ed i tuoi luoghi deserti, ed il tuo paese distrutto, anzi tu stessa, sarai allora troppo stretta per gli abitatori; e quelli che ti divoravano si allontaneranno.

20Ancora ti diranno i figliuoli che tu avrai, dopo che sarai stata orbata degli altri: Questo luogo è troppo stretto per me; fattimi in là, che io possa abitare.

21E tu dirai nel cuor tuo: Chi mi ha generati costoro? conciossiachè io fossi rimasta orbata di figliuoli, e sola, in cattività, ed in esilio; e chi mi ha allevati costoro? ecco, io era rimasta tutta sola, e costoro dove erano?

22Così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Ecco, io leverò la mia mano alle genti ed alzerò la mia bandiera a' popoli; ed essi ti porteranno i tuoi figliuoli in braccio, e le tue figliuole saranno portate in ispalla.

23E i re saranno i tuoi balii, e le principesse, lor mogli, le tue balie; essi s'inchineranno a te, bassando la faccia a terra, e leccheranno la polvere de' tuoi piedi; e tu conoscerai che io sono il Signore, e che quelli che sperano in me non saranno giammai confusi.

24La preda sarebbe ella tolta all'uomo prode? ed i prigioni presi giustamente possono eglino esser riscossi?

25Conciossiachè così abbia detto il Signore: Eziandio i prigioni dell'uomo prode gli saran tolti, e la preda del possente sarà riscossa; ed io contenderò con quelli che contendono teco, e salverò i tuoi figliuoli.

26E farò che i tuoi oppressatori mangeranno la lor propria carne, e s'inebbrieranno del lor proprio sangue, a guisa di mosto; ed ogni carne saprà che io sono il Signore, tuo Salvatore, e tuo Redentore, il Possente di Giacobbe.

1Listen, islands, to me.Listen, you peoples, from afar:the LORD has called me from the womb;from the inside of my mother, he has mentioned my name.

2He has made my mouth like a sharp sword.He has hidden me in the shadow of his hand.He has made me a polished shaft.He has kept me close in his quiver.

3He said to me, “You are my servant,Israel, in whom I will be glorified.”

4But I said, “I have labored in vain.I have spent my strength in vain for nothing;yet surely the justice due to me is with the LORD,and my reward with my God.”

5Now the LORD, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant,says to bring Jacob again to him, and to gather Israel to him, for I am honorable in the LORD’s eyes, and my God has become my strength.

6Indeed, he says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob,and to restore the preserved of Israel.I will also give you as a light to the nations,that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.”

7The LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One,says to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers:“Kings shall see and rise up,princes, and they shall worship, because of the LORD who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

8The LORD says, “I have answered you in an acceptable time.I have helped you in a day of salvation.I will preserve you and give you for a covenant of the people,to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage,

9saying to those who are bound, ‘Come out!’;to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves!’“They shall feed along the paths,and their pasture shall be on all treeless heights.

10They shall not hunger nor thirst;neither shall the heat nor sun strike them, for he who has mercy on them will lead them. He will guide them by springs of water.

11I will make all my mountains a road,and my highways shall be exalted.

12Behold, these shall come from afar,and behold, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Sinim.”

13Sing, heavens, and be joyful, earth!Break out into singing, mountains!For the LORD has comforted his people,and will have compassion on his afflicted.

14But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me,and the Lord has forgotten me.”

15“Can a woman forget her nursing child,that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?Yes, these may forget,yet I will not forget you!

16Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.Your walls are continually before me.

17Your children hurry.Your destroyers and those who devastated you will leave you.

18Lift up your eyes all around, and see:all these gather themselves together, and come to you.As I live,” says the LORD, “you shall surely clothe yourself with them all as with an ornament,and dress yourself with them, like a bride.

19“For, as for your waste and your desolate places,and your land that has been destroyed,surely now that land will be too small for the inhabitants,and those who swallowed you up will be far away.

20The children of your bereavement will say in your ears,‘This place is too small for me. Give me a place to live in.’

21Then you will say in your heart, ‘Who has conceived these for me, since I have been bereaved of my childrenand am alone, an exile, and wandering back and forth?Who has brought these up?Behold, I was left alone. Where were these?’”

22The Lord GOD says, “Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,and lift up my banner to the peoples.They shall bring your sons in their bosom,and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.

23Kings shall be your foster fathers,and their queens your nursing mothers.They will bow down to you with their faces to the earth,and lick the dust of your feet.Then you will know that I am the LORD;and those who wait for me won’t be disappointed.”

24Shall the plunder be taken from the mighty,or the lawful captives be delivered?

25But the LORD says, “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away,and the plunder retrieved from the fierce,for I will contend with him who contends with youand I will save your children.

26I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh;and they will be drunk on their own blood, as with sweet wine.Then all flesh shall know that I, the LORD, am your Saviorand your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
