1And Josiah maketh in Jerusalem a passover to Jehovah, and they slaughter the passover-offering on the fourteenth of the first month,

2and he stationeth the priests over their charges, and strengtheneth them for the service of the house of Jehovah,

3and saith to the Levites — who are teaching all Israel — who are sanctified to Jehovah, 'Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon son of David king of Israel built; it is not to you a burden on the shoulder. 'Now, serve Jehovah your God, and His people Israel,

4and prepare, by the house of your fathers, according to your courses, by the writing of David king of Israel, and by the writing of Solomon his son,

5and stand in the sanctuary, by the divisions of the house of the fathers of your brethren, sons of the people, and the portion of the house of a father of the Levites,

6and slaughter the passover-offering and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brethren, to do according to the word of Jehovah by the hand of Moses.'

7And Josiah lifteth up to the sons of the people a flock of lambs and young goats, the whole for passover-offerings, for every one who is found, to the number of thirty thousand, and oxen three thousand: these [are] from the substance of the king.

8And his heads, for a willing-offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites, have lifted up; Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, leaders in the house of God, to the priests have given for passover-offerings two thousand and six hundred, and oxen three hundred;

9and Conaniah, and Shemaiah, and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah, and Jeiel, and Jozabad, heads of the Levites, have lifted up to the Levites, for passover-offerings, five thousand, and oxen five hundred.

10And the service is prepared, and the priests stand on their station, and the Levites on their courses, according to the command of the king,

11and they slaughter the passover-offering, and the priests sprinkle out of their hand, and the Levites are striping;

12and they turn aside the burnt-offering, to put them by the divisions of the house of the fathers of the sons of the people, to bring near to Jehovah, as it is written in the book of Moses — and so to the oxen.

13And they cook the passover with fire, according to the ordinance, and the sanctified things they have cooked in pots, and in kettles, and in pans — for all the sons of the people.

14And afterward they have prepared for themselves, and for the priests: for the priests, sons of Aaron, [are] in the offering up of the burnt-offering and of the fat till night; and the Levites have prepared for themselves, and for the priests, sons of Aaron.

15And the singers, sons of Asaph, [are] on their station, according to the command of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun seer of the king, and the gate keepers [are] at gate and gate; it is not for them to turn aside from off their service, for their brethren the Levites have prepared for them.

16And all the service of Jehovah is prepared on that day, to keep the passover, and to cause to ascend burnt-offering upon the altar of Jehovah, according to the command of king Josiah.

17And the sons of Israel who are found make the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened things, seven days.

18And there hath not been made a passover like it in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet, and none of the kings of Israel made such a passover as Josiah hath made, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who are found, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

19In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah hath this passover been made.

20After all this, when Josiah hath prepared the house, come up hath Necho king of Egypt, to fight against Carchemish by Phrat, and Josiah goeth forth to meet him;

21and he sendeth unto him messengers, saying, 'What — to me and to thee, O king of Judah? not against thee do I come to-day, but unto the house with which I have war, and God said to haste me; cease for thee from God who [is] with me, and He doth not destroy thee.'

22And Josiah hath not turned round his face from him, but to fight against him hath disguised himself, and hath not hearkened unto the words of Necho, from the mouth of God, and cometh in to fight in the valley of Megiddo;

23and the archers shoot at king Josiah, and the king saith to his servants, 'Remove me, for I have become very sick.'

24And his servants remove him from the chariot, and cause him to ride on the second chariot that he hath, and cause him to go to Jerusalem, and he dieth, and is buried in the graves of his fathers, and all Judah and Jerusalem are mourning for Josiah,

25and Jeremiah lamenteth for Josiah, and all the singers and the songstresses speak in their lamentations of Josiah unto this day, and set them for a statute on Israel, and lo, they are written beside the lamentations.

26And the rest of the matters of Josiah, and his kind acts, according as it is written in the law of Jehovah,

27even his matters, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

1Vua Giô-si-gia-hu cử hành lễ Vượt Qua kính ĐỨC CHÚA ở Giê-ru-sa-lem. Chiên Vượt Qua được sát tế vào ngày mười bốn tháng thứ nhất.

2Vua cắt đặt các tư tế vào những chức vụ tương xứng và khuyến khích họ yên tâm phục vụ Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA.

3Vua nói với các thầy Lê-vi, là những người huấn luyện toàn thể Ít-ra-en và là những người được thánh hiến cho ĐỨC CHÚA : “Từ khi Hòm Bia được đặt trong Nhà do vua Sa-lô-môn, con vua Đa-vít, vua Ít-ra-en, xây cất, các ông không còn phải kề vai khiêng nữa. Bây giờ các ông hãy lo phụng thờ ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của các ông, và phục vụ Ít-ra-en, dân Người.

4Các ông hãy sẵn sàng, theo gia tộc và nhóm mình đúng như sắc chỉ của vua Đa-vít, vua Ít-ra-en, và sắc lệnh của vua Sa-lô-môn, con vua Đa-vít.

5Trong Nơi Thánh, các ông hãy đứng vào chỗ dành cho gia đình các thầy Lê-vi để phục vụ gia tộc anh em các ông là con cái trong dân.

6Hãy sát tế chiên Vượt Qua, hãy thánh hiến và chuẩn bị cho anh em các ông cử hành lễ Vượt Qua, như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền qua ông Mô-sê.”

7Vua Giô-si-gia-hu tặng cho con cái trong dân các thú vật nhỏ, chiên và dê, để cho mọi người có mặt mừng lễ Vượt Qua, tổng số là ba mươi ngàn con ; và bò khoảng ba ngàn con. Tất cả súc vật ấy đều lấy trong tài sản của vua.

8Các thủ lãnh của vua cũng trích phần riêng tặng làm lễ vật tự nguyện cho dân, cho các tư tế và các thầy Lê-vi. Các ông Khin-ki-gia-hu, Dơ-khác-gia-hu và Giơ-khi-ên, những người cai quản Nhà Thiên Chúa, tặng cho các tư tế hai ngàn sáu trăm con chiên và ba trăm con bò để mừng lễ Vượt Qua.

9Các thủ lãnh của các thầy Lê-vi là các ông Cô-nan-gia-hu, Sơ-ma-gia-hu, Nơ-than-ên cùng anh em, Kha-sáp-gia-hu, Giơ-y-ên, Giô-da-vát trích tặng các thầy Lê-vi năm ngàn con chiên và năm trăm con bò để mừng lễ Vượt Qua.

10Công việc sắp xếp xong, các tư tế đứng vào vị trí của mình, còn các thầy Lê-vi đứng theo nhóm riêng, đứng như lệnh vua truyền.

11Rồi họ sát tế chiên Vượt Qua ; các tư tế nhận lấy máu từ tay các thầy Lê-vi mà rảy ; còn các thầy Lê-vi thì lột da các con vật sát tế.

12Khi chia phần cho con cái trong dân tuỳ theo mỗi gia tộc, họ để riêng phần làm lễ toàn thiêu dâng cho ĐỨC CHÚA, như ghi chép trong sách ông Mô-sê. Đối với bò cũng thế.

13Họ nướng chiên Vượt Qua theo luật định ; còn các của thánh hiến khác thì nấu trong nồi, vạc, chảo, rồi họ mau mắn phân phát cho toàn thể con cái trong dân.

14Sau đó, họ mới dọn cho mình và cho các tư tế, vì các tư tế, con cái ông A-ha-ron, phải dâng lễ toàn thiêu và mỡ mãi cho đến đêm ; vì thế các thầy Lê-vi dọn cho mình và cho các tư tế, con cái ông A-ha-ron.

15Các ca viên, con cái ông A-xáp, đứng ở chỗ của mình theo lệnh truyền của vua Đa-vít, của các ông A-xáp, Hê-man, Giơ-đu-thun, thầy chiêm của vua ; còn những người canh đứng ở các cửa. Không ai xao lãng công việc của mình, vì anh em của họ là các thầy Lê-vi chuẩn bị cho họ đầy đủ.

16Thế là trong ngày hôm ấy, tất cả việc phụng thờ ĐỨC CHÚA đã được tổ chức để cử hành lễ Vượt Qua và dâng lễ toàn thiêu trên bàn thờ ĐỨC CHÚA đúng như lệnh vua Giô-si-gia-hu đã truyền.

17Bấy giờ, con cái Ít-ra-en có mặt đã cử hành lễ Vượt Qua cũng như lễ Bánh Không Men trong bảy ngày.

18Chưa bao giờ có một lễ Vượt Qua nào được cử hành như thế trong Ít-ra-en, từ thời ngôn sứ Sa-mu-en, và cũng chẳng có một vua nào trong Ít-ra-en đã cử hành lễ Vượt Qua như vua Giô-si-gia-hu đã cử hành, có đông đủ tư tế, các thầy Lê-vi, toàn thể Giu-đa và Ít-ra-en, cũng như các dân cư ở Giê-ru-sa-lem tham dự.

19Lễ Vượt Qua này được cử hành vào năm thứ mười tám triều Giô-si-gia-hu.

20Sau tất cả những việc vua Giô-si-gia-hu đã làm để trùng tu Nhà ĐỨC CHÚA rồi, thì Nơ-khô, vua Ai-cập, dẫn quân đi giao chiến ở Các-cơ-mít, bên bờ sông Êu-phơ-rát. Vua Giô-si-gia-hu ra đón vua Nơ-khô.

21Vua này sai sứ giả đến gặp vua Giô-si-gia-hu và nói : “Này vua Giu-đa, giữa tôi và ngài có chuyện gì thế ? Hôm nay tôi đến đây không phải để chống lại ngài, nhưng để chống lại một dòng họ thù nghịch, và Thiên Chúa truyền cho tôi phải làm gấp. Thôi, đừng cưỡng lại Thiên Chúa, Đấng đang ở với tôi, kẻo nhà vua bị Người tiêu diệt.”

22Nhưng vua Giô-si-gia-hu không chịu rút lui, vẫn cứ giao chiến với vua Nơ-khô, lại không chịu nghe lời vua Nơ-khô nói nhân danh Thiên Chúa. Vua ra nghênh chiến tại cánh đồng Mơ-ghít-đô

23và bị lính dùng tên bắn trúng. Vua liền nói với thuộc hạ : “Đưa ta đi, ta bị trọng thương rồi !”

24Thuộc hạ đưa vua ra khỏi xe trận, chuyển sang xe thứ hai và trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem. Tại đây vua tắt thở và được chôn cất trong phần mộ của tổ tiên. Cả xứ Giu-đa và thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đều để tang vua Giô-si-gia-hu.

25Ông Giê-rê-mi-a làm một bài điếu ca khóc vua Giô-si-gia-hu. Cho đến ngày nay, tất cả nam nữ ca viên đều nói đến vua Giô-si-gia-hu trong các bài điếu ca của họ ; điều này trở thành tục lệ ở Ít-ra-en. Các bài này đã được ghi chép trong sách điếu ca.

26Các truyện còn lại của vua Giô-si-gia-hu và những việc tốt lành vua đã làm đều đúng với những điều đã được ghi chép trong sách Luật của ĐỨC CHÚA.

27Các truyện ấy, từ đầu đến cuối, đều được ghi chép trong sách Các Vua Ít-ra-en và Giu-đa.
