1 Samuel

1When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,

2and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off and went their way.

3When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive.

4Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.

5David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

6David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

7David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

8David inquired of the LORD, saying, “If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue, for you will surely overtake them, and will without fail recover all.”

9So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.

10But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.

11They found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink.

12They gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. When he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, and drank no water for three days and three nights.

13David asked him, “To whom do you belong? Where are you from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I got sick.

14We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

15David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and not deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”

16When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great plunder that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

17David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.

18David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and David rescued his two wives.

19There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither plunder, nor anything that they had taken. David brought them all back.

20David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s plunder.”

21David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.

22Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”

23Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which the LORD has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

24Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays with the baggage. They shall share alike.”

25It was so from that day forward that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

26When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, “Behold, a present for you from the plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”

27He sent it to those who were in Bethel, to those who were in Ramoth of the South, to those who were in Jattir,

28to those who were in Aroer, to those who were in Siphmoth, to those who were in Eshtemoa,

29to those who were in Racal, to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

30to those who were in Hormah, to those who were in Borashan, to those who were in Athach,

31to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.

1Sang ngày thứ ba, khi ông Đa-vít và người của ông đến Xích-lắc, thì người A-ma-lếch đã cướp phá miền Ne-ghép và thành Xích-lắc. Chúng phá phách Xích-lắc và phóng hoả đốt thành.

2Chúng bắt đàn bà và mọi người trong thành, từ nhỏ đến lớn, làm tù, nhưng không giết ai. Chúng dẫn họ đi và tiếp tục lên đường.

3Khi ông Đa-vít và người của ông đến thành thì thấy thành đã bị phóng hoả, và vợ cùng con trai con gái của họ đã bị bắt làm tù.

4Ông Đa-vít và quân binh ở với ông oà lên khóc cho đến khi không còn sức khóc nữa.

5Hai bà vợ của ông Đa-vít cũng bị bắt làm tù, đó là bà A-khi-nô-am người Gít-rơ-en, và bà A-vi-ga-gin, vợ ông Na-van người Các-men.

6Ông Đa-vít lâm vào cảnh rất ngặt nghèo vì người ta bàn chuyện ném đá ông ; thật vậy, tâm hồn ai cũng cay đắng khi nghĩ đến con trai con gái của mình. Nhưng ông Đa-vít lấy lại can đảm, nhờ ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của ông.

7Ông Đa-vít bảo tư tế Ép-gia-tha, con ông A-khi-me-léc : “Xin ông đem ê-phốt lại đây cho tôi.” Ông Ép-gia-tha đem ê-phốt lại cho ông Đa-vít.

8Ông Đa-vít thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA rằng : “Con có nên rượt theo bọn cướp đó không ? Con có đuổi kịp chúng không ?” Người phán với ông : “Cứ rượt theo, vì ngươi sẽ đuổi kịp và chắc chắn ngươi sẽ giải thoát được tù.”

9Ông Đa-vít đi cùng với sáu trăm người theo ông ; khi họ đến khe nước Bơ-xo thì một số người đã dừng lại.

10Ông tiếp tục rượt theo cùng với bốn trăm người. Hai trăm người đã dừng lại vì quá mệt, không đủ sức sang qua khe nước Bơ-xo.

11Người ta thấy một tên Ai-cập ngoài đồng, liền bắt đem đến ông Đa-vít. Họ cho nó bánh, nó ăn, rồi họ cho nó uống nước.

12Họ cho nó một miếng bánh vả và hai chùm nho khô. Ăn xong, nó hoàn hồn, vì đã ba ngày ba đêm nó chẳng ăn uống gì.

13Ông Đa-vít hỏi nó : “Anh là người của ai và quê ở đâu ?” Nó đáp : “Tôi là một thanh niên Ai-cập, nô lệ của một người A-ma-lếch. Chủ tôi bỏ tôi lại vì tôi ngã bệnh, nay đã ba ngày.

14Chúng tôi đã cướp phá vùng Ne-ghép của người Cơ-rê-thi, vùng Ne-ghép của Giu-đa và vùng Ne-ghép của Ca-lếp, và chúng tôi đã phóng hoả đốt Xích-lắc.”

15Ông Đa-vít nói : “Anh có muốn đưa tôi xuống chỗ bọn cướp ấy không ?” Nó đáp : “Ông hãy lấy Thiên Chúa mà thề với tôi là ông sẽ không giết tôi, và sẽ không nộp tôi vào tay chủ tôi, thì tôi sẽ đưa ông xuống chỗ bọn cướp đó.”

16Nó đưa ông xuống, và kìa chúng đang tản mác khắp miền, chè chén, ăn mừng số chiến lợi phẩm lớn đã cướp được ở đất Phi-li-tinh và ở đất Giu-đa.

17Ông Đa-vít đánh giết chúng từ hừng đông cho đến chiều hôm sau. Không tên nào thoát, trừ bốn trăm thanh niên cưỡi lạc đà chạy trốn.

18Ông Đa-vít giải thoát tất cả những gì người A-ma-lếch đã cướp ; ông cũng giải thoát hai bà vợ của ông.

19Họ không mất gì : từ người nhỏ đến người lớn, con trai, con gái họ, chiến lợi phẩm và tất cả những gì chúng đã lấy của họ, ông Đa-vít đem về tất cả.

21Ông Đa-vít đến chỗ hai trăm người đã quá mệt, không đủ sức đi theo ông Đa-vít, và đã bị bỏ lại ở khe nước Bơ-xo. Họ ra đón ông Đa-vít và đón quân binh đi với ông. Ông Đa-vít cùng với quân binh lại gần và vấn an họ.

22Nhưng tất cả những kẻ xấu và những tên vô lại trong đám người đã đi với ông Đa-vít lên tiếng nói : “Bởi vì họ đã không đi với chúng tôi, nên chúng tôi sẽ không cho họ phần chiến lợi phẩm chúng tôi đã lấy lại được, ngoại trừ vợ con của mỗi người. Họ hãy dẫn những người ấy mà đi.”

23Nhưng ông Đa-vít nói : “Thưa anh em, đừng làm như thế với những thứ ĐỨC CHÚA đã ban cho chúng ta. Người đã gìn giữ chúng ta và trao vào tay chúng ta bọn cướp đến tấn công chúng ta.

24họ sẽ cùng nhau chia phần.”

26Khi ông Đa-vít đến Xích-lắc, ông gửi những phần chiến lợi phẩm cho các kỳ mục Giu-đa, đồng bào của ông, mà nói : “Đây là quà tặng anh em, lấy từ chiến lợi phẩm cướp được của các kẻ thù ĐỨC CHÚA.”

27Ông gửi cho : những người ở Bết Ên, những người ở Ra-mốt Ne-ghép, những người ở Giát-tia,

28những người ở A-rô-e, những người ở Xíp-mốt, những người ở Ét-tơ-mô-a,

29những người ở Các-men, những người ở các thành người Giơ-rác-mơ-ên, những người ở các thành người Kê-ni,

30những người ở Khoóc-ma, những người ở Bô A-san, những người ở A-tác,

31những người ở Khép-rôn, và tất cả những nơi ông Đa-vít và người của ông đã thường qua lại.
