1Chớ khoe khoang về ngày mai,vì con đâu biết được việc gì sẽ xảy ra trong tương lai.

2Hãy để người khác khen con, miệng con chẳng nên làm;hãy để người ngoài khen, môi con đừng làm thế.

3Đá thì nặng và cát cũng nặng,nhưng cơn nóng giận của người dại nặng hơn cả đá và cát.

4Sự phẫn nộ thật độc ác, cơn giận thật bạo tàn,nhưng sự ghen tương còn nguy hiểm bội phần.

5Ra mặt quở trách tỏ tườnghơn là yêu thương lặng lẽ.

6Thương tổn do bạn gây ra, ấy là bởi lòng thành;còn đáng tin hơn vô số cái hôn của kẻ thù.

7Khi no, chê cả mật,lúc đói, đắng hóa ngọt.

8Người lưu lạc xa quê hương,giống như chim lạc bầy bay xa tổ.

9Dầu và thuốc thơm làm khoan khoái tâm hồn,lời khuyên ngọt ngào của bằng hữu cũng êm dịu dường ấy.

10Chớ từ bỏ bạn—dù bạn mình hoặc bạn của cha.Lúc hoạn nạn, đừng lo đi kiếm anh em họ hàng. Vì láng giềng gần hơn họ hàng ở xa.

11Con ơi, hãy khôn ngoan, và làm cho lòng cha sung sướng.Vì khi đó cha có thể đáp lại những lời chỉ trích xem thường.

12Người khôn tránh né nguy nan.Người dại đâm đầu hướng tới tai họa.

13Phải nắm lấy áo ai bảo lãnh cho người không quen.Giữ vật làm tin của hắn vì hắn bảo lãnh cho người đàn bà xa lạ.

14Lớn tiếng chúc phước người hàng xóm lúc sáng sớm,họ sẽ xem câu chúc đó như lời nguyền rủa.

15Nhà dột trong ngày mưa tháng giócũng làm khổ như người đàn bà cãi cọ.

16Bịt miệng nàng, khác chi đưa tay cản gióhay ngửa tay đựng dầu.

17Sắt mài sắt,bạn rèn bạn.

18Săn sóc cây vả sẽ được ăn quả;phục vụ hết lòng, chủ sẽ thưởng công.

19Nước phản chiếu khuôn mặt,tấm lòng biểu lộ chân tướng con người.

20Mắt đầy tham vọng, chẳng bao giờ chán;âm ty nuốt người không hề thỏa mãn.

21Lửa dùng thử bạc, thử vàng,lời khen thử con người.

22Dùng chày giã người dại như giã thóc,cũng không làm tróc ngu si của nó.

23Hãy biết rõ tình trạng bầy chiên của con,và phải chịu khó chăm nom đàn súc vật,

24vì giàu có chóng qua,và mão miện chẳng trường tồn.

25Khi cỏ khô đã cắt và cỏ non lại mọc,và cỏ xanh trên đồi núi được gom về,

26thì chiên cung cấp cho con quần áo che thân,và dê sẽ giúp con tiền mua đất ruộng.

27Sữa dê sẽ dồi dào để nuôi con, nuôi cả gia đìnhvà luôn cả các tớ gái con nữa.

1Boast not for tomorrow, for thou knowest not what the day to come may bring forth.

11Study wisdom, my son, and make my heart joyful, that thou mayst give an answer to him that reproacheth.

12The prudent man seeing evil hideth himself: little ones passing on have suffered losses.

13Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers.

14He that blesseth his neighbour with a loud voice, rising in the night, shall be like to him that curseth.

15Roofs dropping through in a cold day, and a contentious woman are alike.

16He that retaineth her, is as he that would hold the wind, and shall call in the oil of his right hand.

17Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

18He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eat the fruit thereof: and he that is the keeper of his master, shall be glorified.

19As the faces of them that look therein, shine in the water, so-the hearts of men are laid open to the wise.

20Hell and destruction are never filled: so the eyes of men are never satisfied.

21As silver is tried in the fining-pot and gold in the furnace: so a man is tried by the mouth of him that praiseth. The heart of the wicked seeketh after evils, but the righteous heart seeketh after knowledge.

22Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him.

23Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks:

24For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation.

25The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains.

26Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field.

27Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids.
