Proverbs

1Chớ ganh tị người ác,cũng đừng mong kết bạn với họ.

2Vì lòng chúng đầy âm mưu bạo tàn,môi nói ra toàn lời nguy hại.

3Nhà cửa xây trên nền khôn ngoanvà được vững vàng do hiểu biết.

4Do tri thức các phòngđược đầy vật quý hiếm.

5Người khôn ngoan là người có sức lớn,người tri thức lại càng thêm năng lực.

6Đánh giặc phải nhờ mưu khôn ngoan;muốn chiến thắng, cần nhiều mưu sĩ.

7Với người dại, khôn ngoan là điều cao xa quá.Nơi cổng thành, nó chẳng dám hé miệng ra.

8Ai mưu tính điều ác,sẽ nổi danh là người gian xảo.

9Âm mưu của người dại là tội lỗi;người nhạo báng bị người ta ghê tởm.

10Chỉ người yếu hènmới sờn lòng trong ngày hoạn nạn.

11Hãy cứu người bị đưa đến cõi chết;hãy ngăn bước người lảo đảo đi đến chỗ tử vong.

12Đừng tự nói: “Chúng tôi chẳng biết chuyện gì cả.”Vì Đức Chúa Trời hiểu rõ lòng người, và Ngài nhìn thấy. Đấng canh giữ mạng sống con biết rõ con đã biết. Ngài sẽ báo trả mỗi người tùy việc họ đã làm.

13Con ơi, hãy ăn mật ong vì nó tốt,mật của tàn ong ngon ngọt cho miệng con.

14Cũng hãy biết rằng khôn ngoan ngọt ngào cho linh hồn con.Nếu con tìm được khôn ngoan, con sẽ tràn đầy hy vọng, và hy vọng của con sẽ không bị cắt đứt.

15Đừng rình rập nhà người công chính,cũng đừng cướp phá nơi ở của người,

16Vì người công chính vẫn đứng dậy, dù bị ngã bảy lần.Nhưng chỉ một tai vạ, người ác đã bại liệt ngay.

17Khi kẻ địch sa cơ, con chớ mừng;khi nó ngã, lòng con đừng hớn hở.

18Kẻo e Chúa Hằng Hữu không bằng lòngvà ngưng ra tay trừng phạt nó chăng.

19Chớ nóng lòng vì công việc người ác,đừng ganh tị khi người dữ thành đạt.

20Đời người ác không có tương lai;đèn người dữ nay mai sẽ tắt.

21Con ơi, phải kính sợ Chúa và tôn trọng vua.Đừng liên kết với bọn người phản loạn,

22vì họa tai sẽ đến bất ngờ.Ai lường được hình phạt của Chúa Hằng Hữu và vua?

23Đây là lời của người khôn ngoan:Khi xét xử, đừng thiên vị ai cả.

24Ai tuyên bố với người ác rằng “Anh vô tội,”sẽ bị mọi người nguyền rủa không thôi.

25Ai trách phạt người ác, sẽ được mọi người ưa thích;và tràn đầy phước hạnh.

26Lời nói thẳngxuất phát từ tình thương.

27Lo làm ăn trong ngoài chu tất,rồi hãy tính đến việc cất nhà.

28Đừng vô cớ làm chứng hại láng giềng;môi miệng con đừng thốt ra lời dối trá.

29Chớ nói: “Tôi báo trả lại điều nó làm cho tôi!Tôi chỉ tốt với người tốt với tôi thôi!”

30Ta có qua ruộng một người kém siêng năng,và vườn nho của người ngu dại.

31Cỏ mọc um tùm, gai phủ giăng.Rào dậu điêu tàn nghiêng ngửa đổ.

32Quan sát cảnh ấy, ta để ý,suy xét, và học được rằng:

33Ngủ một chút, mơ màng thêm một chút,khoanh tay nghỉ một chút nữa thôi—

34cảnh nghèo đến như kẻ trộm;bạo tàn, đột ngột như phường cướp tấn công.

1Seek not to be like evil men, neither desire to be with them:

2Because their mind studieth robberies, and their lips speak deceits.

3By wisdom the house shall be built, and by prudence it shall be strengthened.

4By instruction the storerooms shall be filled with all precious and most beautiful wealth.

5A wise man is strong: and a knowing man, stout and valiant.

6Because war is managed by due ordering: and there shall be safety where there are many counsels.

7Wisdom is too high for a fool, in the gate he shall not open his mouth.

8He that deviseth to do evils, shall be called a fool.

9The thought of a fool is sin: and the detracter is the abomination of men.

10If thou lose hope being weary in the day of distress, thy strength shall be diminished.

11Deliver them that are led to death: and those that are drawn to death forbear not to deliver.

12If thou say: I have not strength enough: he that seeth into the heart, he understandeth, and nothing deceiveth the keeper of thy soul, and he shall render to a man according to his works.

13Fat honey, my son, because it is good, and the honeycomb most sweet to thy throat:

14So also is the doctrine of wisdom to thy soul: which when thou hast found, thou shalt have hope in the end, and thy hope shall not perish.

15Lie not in wait, nor seek after wickedness in the house of the just, nor spoil his rest.

16For a just mall shall fall seven times and shall rise again: but the wicked shall fall down into evil.

17When thy enemy shall fall, be not glad, and in his ruin let not thy heart rejoice:

18Lest the Lord see, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

19Contend not with the wicked, nor seek to be like the ungodly:

20For evil men have no hope of things to come, and the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

21My son, fear the Lord and the king: and have nothing to do with detracters.

22For their destruction shall rise suddenly: and who knoweth the ruin of both?

23These things also to the wise: It is not good to have respect to persons in judgment.

24They that say to the wicked man: Thou art just: shall be cursed by the people, and the tribes shall abhor them.

25They that rebuke him, shall be praised: and a blessing shall come upon them.

26He shall kiss the lips, who answereth right words.

27Prepare thy work without, and diligently till thy ground: that afterward thou mayst build thy house.

28Be not witness without cause against thy neighbour: and deceive not any man with thy lips.

29Say not: I will do to him as he hath done to me: I will render to every one according to his work.

30I passed by the field of the slothful man, and by the vineyard of the foolish man:

31And behold it was all filled with nettles, and thorns had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall was broken down.

32Which when I had seen, I laid it up in my heart, and by the example I received instruction.

33Thou wilt sleep a little, said I, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to rest:

34And poverty shall come to thee as a runner, and beggary as an armed man.
