Sau-lơ Ganh Tị với Đa-vít

1Sau khi Đa-vít trò chuyện với Sau-lơ xong, người gặp Giô-na-than, con trai của vua. Lập tức có mối thâm tình giữa họ, vì Giô-na-than yêu mến Đa-vít lắm.

2Từ đó Sau-lơ giữ Đa-vít ở lại, không để ông trở về nhà cha nữa.

3Giô-na-than kết nghĩa với Đa-vít và yêu thương Đa-vít hết lòng.

4Giô-na-than cởi áo mình mặc cho Đa-vít, và còn cho Đa-vít áo giáp, gươm, cung, và đai thắt lưng của mình nữa.

5Mỗi khi Sau-lơ giao cho Đa-vít việc gì, công việc đều kết quả tốt đẹp. Vì thế, Sau-lơ phong Đa-vít làm tướng chỉ huy quân đội. Đa-vít được lòng mọi người, từ dân cho đến quần thần trong triều Sau-lơ.

6Sau khi Đa-vít giết người Phi-li-tin và đoàn quân Ít-ra-ên chiến thắng trở về, phụ nữ trong khắp các thành thị Ít-ra-ên kéo ra múa hát chào mừng Vua Sau-lơ. Họ vui vẻ hát hò và nhảy múa theo tiếng trống cơm và chập chõa.

7Bài hát như sau:“Sau-lơ giết hàng nghìn,Đa-vít giết hàng vạn!”

8Nghe thế, Sau-lơ giận lắm. Vua nói: “Người ta tán tụng Đa-vít giết hàng vạn, còn ta chỉ có hàng nghìn. Kế đến họ sẽ tôn nó làm vua của mình!”

9Từ hôm ấy, Sau-lơ thường nhìn Đa-vít với con mắt ganh tị.

10Hôm sau, Đức Chúa Trời sai ác thần quấy phá Sau-lơ, và vua nói lảm nhảm trong lúc mê sảng. Đa-vít đến khảy đàn như những lần trước.

11Cầm một cây giáo, Sau-lơ phóng, định ghim Đa-vít vào tường. Nhưng Đa-vít tránh được hai lần như thế.

12Sau-lơ sợ Đa-vít, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu ở với Đa-vít và từ bỏ Sau-lơ.

13Cuối cùng, Sau-lơ đẩy Đa-vít đi xa và cho ông chỉ huy 1.000 quân, Đa-vít trung thành dẫn quân vào trận mạc.

14Đa-vít thành công trong mọi việc, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu ở với ông.

15Sau-lơ thấy Đa-vít thành công như thế lại càng thêm sợ.

16Trong khi đó Đa-vít càng được người Ít-ra-ên và Giu-đa cảm mến vì ông rất thành công khi chỉ huy họ ngoài trận mạc.

Đa-vít Cưới Con Gái của Sau-lơ

17Một hôm, Sau-lơ nói với Đa-vít: “Ta sẽ gả con gái lớn của ta là Mê-ráp cho con làm vợ. Nhưng con phải can đảm giúp ta và chiến đấu cho Chúa Hằng Hữu.” Nói thế vì Sau-lơ nghĩ: “Ta sai nó chống lại quân Phi-li-tin để họ giết hắn hơn là ta phải ra tay.”

18Nhưng Đa-vít đáp: “Tôi là ai và thân phận của tôi có là gì trong Ít-ra-ên đâu mà được làm phò mã của vua? Gia tộc của cha tôi cũng chẳng là gì!”

19Tuy nhiên, đến ngày Sau-lơ gả Mê-ráp, con gái mình cho Đa-vít, thì vua lại gả nàng cho Át-ri-ên, người Mê-hô-la.

20Khi ấy, Mi-canh, con gái của Sau-lơ, lại yêu Đa-vít. Khi nghe điều này Sau-lơ lấy làm thích thú.

21Ông nhủ thầm: “Gả con cho hắn để rồi dùng con ta hại hắn, như vậy hắn dễ bị người Phi-li-tin giết hơn!” Nhưng ông lại nói với Đa-vít: “Hôm nay con có thể làm phò mã thật rồi.”

22Sau-lơ cũng sai bầy tôi mình nói với Đa-vít: “Ông được lòng vua lắm, và quần thần đều mến yêu ông. Tại sao ông không chấp nhận lời đề nghị của vua và làm phò mã?”

23Khi các bầy tôi của Sau-lơ nói những điều này với Đa-vít xong, chàng trả lời: “Làm thế nào một người nghèo mọn thấp hèn có thể cưới con gái của vua?”

24Các bầy tôi của Sau-lơ đem chuyện trình lại với vua,

25ông dặn họ: “Hãy nói với Đa-vít rằng, sính lễ ta muốn là 100 dương bì của người Phi-li-tin! Ta chỉ muốn trả thù quân địch mà thôi.” Nói thế vì Sau-lơ nghĩ đây là dịp cho người Phi-li-tin giết Đa-vít.

26Nghe điều kiện này, Đa-vít vui vẻ chấp nhận. Trước khi hết thời hạn,

27Đa-vít dẫn thuộc hạ đi đánh giết 200 người Phi-li-tin, đem dương bì của họ nộp cho vua để được làm phò mã. Vậy Sau-lơ gả Mi-canh cho Đa-vít.

28Khi ý thức rõ ràng Chúa Hằng Hữu ở cùng Đa-vít và thấy Mi-canh thật tình yêu quý chồng,

29Sau-lơ càng thêm sợ và căm thù Đa-vít không nguôi.

30Mỗi lần có chuyện chinh chiến với quân Phi-li-tin, Đa-vít lập được nhiều chiến công hơn mọi tướng khác của Sau-lơ. Vì vậy, danh tiếng ông càng lừng lẫy.

1And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.

3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

4And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

5¶ And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

6And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.

7And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

8And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

9And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

10¶ And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.

11And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

12¶ And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

13Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

14And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

15Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

16But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

17¶ And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

18And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?

19But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.

20And Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

21And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.

22¶ And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king’s son in law.

23And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

24And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

25And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

26And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son in law: and the days were not expired.

27Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

28¶ And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.

29And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.

30Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
