1Tại sa mạc Xi-nai ngày mồng một tháng hai năm thứ hai kể từ khi con cái Ít-ra-en ra khỏi đất Ai-cập, ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê trong Lều Hội Ngộ rằng :

2“Các ngươi hãy kiểm tra dân số toàn thể cộng đồng con cái Ít-ra-en theo thị tộc và gia tộc, lập danh sách mọi người đàn ông từng người một.

3Những người từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, nghĩa là mọi người trong dân Ít-ra-en đến tuổi nhập ngũ, thì ngươi và A-ha-ron hãy liệt kê theo đơn vị của chúng.

4Mỗi chi tộc còn phải có một người giúp các ngươi, người ấy phải là tộc trưởng.

5Đây là danh sách những người đứng ra giúp các ngươi : “Chi tộc Rưu-vên có Ê-li-xua, con Sơ-đê-ua.

6Chi tộc Si-mê-ôn có Sơ-lu-mi-ên, con Xu-ri-sát-đai.

7Chi tộc Giu-đa có Nác-sôn, con Am-mi-na-đáp.

8Chi tộc Ít-xa-kha có Nơ-than-ên, con Xu-a.

9Chi tộc Dơ-vu-lun có Ê-li-áp, con Khe-lôn.

10Con cháu Giu-se : chi tộc Ép-ra-im có Ê-li-sa-ma, con Am-mi-hút, và chi tộc Mơ-na-se có Gam-li-ên, con Pơ-đa-xua.

11Chi tộc Ben-gia-min có A-vi-đan, con Ghít-ô-ni.

12Chi tộc Đan có A-khi-e-de, con Am-mi-sát-đai.

13Chi tộc A-se có Pác-i-ên, con Ốc-ran.

14Chi tộc Gát có En-gia-xáp, con Rơ-u-ên.

15Chi tộc Náp-ta-li có A-khi-ra, con Ê-nan.”

16Đó là những người đại diện của cộng đồng, họ đều là những người phụ trách các chi tộc của họ, chỉ huy quân ngũ Ít-ra-en.

17Ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron nhận những người vừa được chỉ định đích danh,

18và triệu tập toàn thể cộng đồng vào ngày mồng một tháng hai. Người ta xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, lập danh sách những người đàn ông, từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, từng người một.

19Như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông, ông Mô-sê kiểm tra họ trong sa mạc Xi-nai.

20Con cháu Rưu-vên, trưởng nam của Ít-ra-en, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

21những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Rưu-vên, là 46.500.

22Con cháu Si-mê-ôn, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

23những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Si-mê-ôn, là 59.300.

24Con cháu Gát, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

25những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Gát, là 45.650.

26Con cháu Giu-đa, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

27những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Giu-đa, là 74.600.

28Con cháu Ít-xa-kha, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

29những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Ít-xa-kha, là 54.400.

30Con cháu Dơ-vu-lun, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

31những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Dơ-vu-lun, là 57.400.

32Con cháu Giu-se : thuộc chi tộc Ép-ra-im, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

33những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Ép-ra-im, là 40.500.

34Còn chi tộc Mơ-na-se, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

35những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Mơ-na-se, là 32.200.

36Con cháu Ben-gia-min, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

37những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Ben-gia-min, là 35.400.

38Con cháu Đan, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

39những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Đan, là 62.700.

40Con cháu A-se, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

41những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc A-se, là 41.500.

42Con cháu Náp-ta-li, sau khi xác định phổ hệ theo thị tộc và gia tộc, người ta lập danh sách từng người một, tất cả đàn ông từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, mọi người trong tuổi nhập ngũ ;

43những người được kiểm tra thuộc chi tộc Náp-ta-li, là 53.400.

44Đó là những người đã được ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron kiểm tra cùng với mười hai người phụ trách Ít-ra-en, mỗi người phụ trách gia tộc mình.

45Tất cả con cái Ít-ra-en đã được kiểm tra theo gia tộc của họ, từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, tất cả các chiến binh trong dân Ít-ra-en,

46tổng số người được kiểm tra, là 603.550.

47Còn các thầy Lê-vi, vì quy chế chi tộc của mình, thì không được liệt kê vào số đó.

48ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê rằng :

49“Riêng chi tộc Lê-vi, ngươi sẽ không kiểm tra và không liệt kê chung với con cái Ít-ra-en.

50Nhưng hãy đặt các thầy Lê-vi phụ trách Nhà Tạm Chứng Ước, cũng như mọi vật dụng và tất cả những gì liên quan tới Nhà Tạm đó. Chính họ sẽ lo việc di chuyển Nhà Tạm và mọi vật dụng, sẽ phục vụ và dựng lều chung quanh Nhà Tạm.

51Khi dời Nhà Tạm, các thầy Lê-vi sẽ hạ Nhà Tạm xuống, và lúc Nhà Tạm dừng lại thì họ sẽ dựng Nhà Tạm lên. Còn ai khác mà tới gần sẽ phải chết.

52Con cái Ít-ra-en sẽ dựng lều, mỗi người nơi doanh trại mình, theo cờ hiệu của từng đoàn quân.

53Còn các thầy Lê-vi thì sẽ dựng lều chung quanh Nhà Tạm Chứng Ước. Như thế thịnh nộ (của Ta) sẽ không giáng xuống cộng đồng con cái Ít-ra-en. Các thầy Lê-vi sẽ phụ trách Nhà Tạm.”

54Con cái Ít-ra-en đã thi hành tất cả mọi điều y như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông Mô-sê.

2Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel by their families, and houses, and the names of every one, as many as are of the male sex,

3From twenty years old and upwards, of all the men of Israel fit for war, and you shall number them by their troops, thou and Aaron.

4And there shall be with you the princes of the tribes, and of the houses in their kindreds,

5Whose names are these: Of Ruben, Elisur the son of Sedeur.

6Of Simeon, Salamiel the son of Surisaddai.

7Of Juda, Nahasson the son of Aminadab.

8Of Issachar, Nathanael the son of Suar.

9Of Zabulon, Eliab the son of Helon.

10And of the sons of Joseph: of Ephraim, Elisama the son of Ammiud: of Manasses, Gamaliel the son of Phadassur.

11Of Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gedeon.

12Of Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammisaddai.

13Of Aser, Phegiel the son of Ochran.

14Of Gad, Eliasaph the son of Duel.

15Of Nephtali, Ahira the son of Enan.

16These are the most noble princes of the multitude by their tribes and kindreds, and the chiefs of the army of Israel:

17Whom Moses and Aaron took with all the multitude of the common people:

18And assembled them on the first day of the second month, reckoning them up by the kindreds, and houses, and families, and heads, and names of every one from twenty years old and upward,

19As the Lord had commanded Moses. And they were numbered in the desert of Sinai.

20Of Ruben the eldest son of Israel, by their generations and families and houses and names of every head, all that were of the male sex, from twenty years old and upward, that were able to go forth to war,

21Were forty-six thousand five hundred.

22Of the sons of Simeon by their generations and families, and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names and heads of every one, all that were of the male sex, from twenty years old and upward, that were able to go forth to war,

23Fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

24Of the sons of Gad, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

25Forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.

26Of the sons of Juda, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds, by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

27Were reckoned up seventy-four thousand six hundred.

28Of the sons of Issachar, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds, by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that could go forth to war,

29Were reckoned up fifty-four thousand four hundred.

30Of the sons of Zabulon, by the generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

31Fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

32Of the sons of Joseph, namely, of the sons of Ephraim, by the generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

33Forty thousand five hundred.

34Moreover of the sons of Manasses, by the generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that could go forth to war,

35Thirty-two thousand two hundred.

36Of the sons of Benjamin, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

37Thirty-five thousand four hundred.

38Of the sons of Dan, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

39Sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

40Of the sons of Aser, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

41Forty-one thousand and five hundred.

42Of the sons of Nephtali, by their generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

43Fifty-three thousand four hundred.

44These era they who were numbered by Moses and Aaron, and the twelve princes of Israel, every one by the houses of their kindreds.

45And the whole number of the children of Israel by their houses and families, from twenty years old and upward, that were able to go to war,

46Were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty men.

47But the Levites in the tribes of their families were not numbered with them.

48And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

49Number not the tribe of Levi, neither shalt thou put down the sum of them with the children of Israel:

50But appoint them over the tabernacle of the testimony, and all the vessels thereof, and whatsoever pertaineth to the ceremonies. They shall carry the tabernacle and all the furniture thereof: and they shall minister, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

51When you are to go forward, the Levites shall take down the tabernacle: when you are to camp, they shall set it up. What stranger soever cometh to it, shall be slain.

52And the children of Israel shall camp every man by his troops and bands and army.

53But the Levites shall pitch their tents round about the tabernacle, lest there come indignation upon the multitude of the children of Israel, and they shall keep watch, and guard the tabernacle of the testimony.

54And the children of Israel did according to all things which the Lord had commanded Moses.
