Nehemiah

1Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.

2And next unto him builded the men of Jericho. And next to them builded Zaccur the son of Imri.

3But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

4And next unto them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz. And next unto them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel. And next unto them repaired Zadok the son of Baana.

5And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord.

6Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

7And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, unto the throne of the governor on this side the river.

8Next unto him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, of the goldsmiths. Next unto him also repaired Hananiah the son of one of the apothecaries, and they fortified Jerusalem unto the broad wall.

9And next unto them repaired Rephaiah the son of Hur, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem.

10And next unto them repaired Jedaiah the son of Harumaph, even over against his house. And next unto him repaired Hattush the son of Hashabniah.

11Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahath-moab, repaired the other piece, and the tower of the furnaces.

12And next unto him repaired Shallum the son of Halohesh, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem, he and his daughters.

13The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and a thousand cubits on the wall unto the dung gate.

14But the dung gate repaired Malchiah the son of Rechab, the ruler of part of Beth-haccerem; he built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

15But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Col-hozeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Siloah by the king’s garden, and unto the stairs that go down from the city of David.

16After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Beth-zur, unto the place over against the sepulchres of David, and to the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty.

17After him repaired the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani. Next unto him repaired Hashabiah, the ruler of the half part of Keilah, in his part.

18After him repaired their brethren, Bavai the son of Henadad, the ruler of the half part of Keilah.

19And next to him repaired Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of Mizpah, another piece over against the going up to the armoury at the turning of the wall.

20After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece, from the turning of the wall unto the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

21After him repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah the son of Koz another piece, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib.

22And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain.

23After him repaired Benjamin and Hashub over against their house. After him repaired Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah by his house.

24After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another piece, from the house of Azariah unto the turning of the wall, even unto the corner.

25Palal the son of Uzai, over against the turning of the wall, and the tower which lieth out from the king’s high house, that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh.

26Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out.

27After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lieth out, even unto the wall of Ophel.

28From above the horse gate repaired the priests, every one over against his house.

29After them repaired Zadok the son of Immer over against his house. After him repaired also Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the east gate.

30After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another piece. After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah over against his chamber.

31After him repaired Malchiah the goldsmith’s son unto the place of the Nethinims, and of the merchants, over against the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner.

32And between the going up of the corner unto the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants.

1Thượng tế En-gia-síp và các tư tế anh em của ông đứng ra xây cất cửa Chiên : họ làm khung, dựng cánh cửa ; và họ tiếp tục như thế cho đến tháp Trăm, rồi đến tháp Kha-nan-ên.

2Bên cạnh, có những người Giê-ri-khô cũng xây cất ; bên cạnh, có Dắc-cua, con của Im-ri, cũng xây cất.

3Con cái Ha Xơ-na-a xây cửa Cá : họ làm khung, dựng cánh cửa, đặt then cài và thanh ngang.

4Bên cạnh, có Mơ-rê-mốt, con của U-ri-gia, cháu Hắc-cốt, lo việc tu bổ ; bên cạnh, cũng có Mơ-su-lam, con của Be-réc-gia, cháu Mơ-sê-dáp-ên ; bên cạnh, còn có Xa-đốc, con của Ba-a-na, lo việc tu bổ.

5Bên cạnh, có những người Tơ-cô-a lo việc tu bổ, nhưng các người tai mắt trong dân Tơ-cô-a không chịu khom lưng làm việc theo ý chủ.

6Giô-gia-đa, con của Pa-xê-ác, và Mơ-su-lam, con của Bơ-xốt-gia, lo việc tu bổ cửa Giơ-sa-na ; họ làm khung, dựng cánh cửa, đặt then cài và thanh ngang.

7Bên cạnh, có Mơ-lát-gia người Ghíp-ôn và Gia-đôn người Mê-rô-nốt, cũng như người Ghíp-ôn và người Mít-pa thuộc thẩm quyền trưởng Vùng bên kia sông Êu-phơ-rát, lo việc tu bổ.

8Bên cạnh, có Út-di-ên, con của Khác-ha-gia, thuộc giới thợ kim hoàn, lo việc tu bổ ; bên cạnh, Kha-nan-gia thuộc giới thợ chế nước hoa, lo việc tu bổ ; họ trùng tu tường thành Giê-ru-sa-lem cho đến tường Rộng.

9Bên cạnh, có Rơ-pha-gia, con của Khua, người phụ trách nửa khu Giê-ru-sa-lem, lo việc tu bổ.

10Bên cạnh, có Giơ-đa-gia, con của Kha-ru-máp, lo việc tu bổ trước nhà ông. Bên cạnh, có Khát-tút, con của Kha-sáp-nơ-gia, lo việc tu bổ.

11Man-ki-gia, con của Kha-rim, và Kha-súp, con của Pa-khát Mô-áp, lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai cho đến tháp Lò.

12Bên cạnh, có Sa-lum, con của Ha Lô-khết, người phụ trách nửa khu Giê-ru-sa-lem, cùng với các con gái ông, lo việc tu bổ.

13Kha-nun và những người ở Da-nô-ác lo việc tu bổ cửa Thung Lũng : chính họ xây cửa này, dựng cánh cửa, đặt then cài và thanh ngang ; họ xây tường thành được năm trăm thước cho đến cửa Rác.

14Man-ki-gia, con của Rê-kháp, người phụ trách khu Bết Ha Ke-rem, lo việc tu bổ cửa Rác : chính ông xây cửa này, dựng cánh cửa, đặt then cài và thanh ngang.

15Sa-lum, con của Côn Khô-de, người phụ trách khu Mít-pa, lo việc tu bổ cửa Suối : chính ông xây cửa này, lợp mái, dựng cánh cửa, đặt then cài và thanh ngang. Ông còn xây tường thành quanh hồ Si-lô-ác, gần ngự uyển, cho đến các bậc thang từ Thành Đa-vít xuống.

16Kế đến, Nơ-khe-mi-a, con của Át-búc, người phụ trách nửa khu Bết Xua, lo việc tu bổ cho đến phía trước lăng của hoàng tộc Đa-vít, cho đến hồ nhân tạo và trại ngự lâm quân.

17Kế đến là các thầy Lê-vi, gồm có Rơ-khum, con của Ba-ni, lo việc tu bổ ; bên cạnh, có Kha-sáp-gia, người phụ trách nửa khu Cơ-i-la, lo việc tu bổ cho khu ông phụ trách.

18Kế đến, các anh em của họ : Bau-vai, con của Khê-na-đát, người phụ trách nửa khu Cơ-i-la, lo việc tu bổ.

19Bên cạnh, có Ê-de, con của Giê-su-a, người phụ trách Mít-pa, lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai đối diện với dốc kho vũ khí, nơi Góc tường thành.

20Kế đến, Ba-rúc, con của Dáp-bai, lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai từ Góc tường thành cho đến cửa nhà thượng tế En-gia-síp.

21Kế đến, Mơ-rê-mốt, con của U-ri-gia, cháu Hắc-cốt, lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai, từ cửa nhà En-gia-síp cho đến phần cuối nhà En-gia-síp.

22Kế đến, các tư tế, những người ở vùng lân cận, lo việc tu bổ.

23Kế đến, Ben-gia-min và Kha-súp lo việc tu bổ ở trước nhà họ ; kế đến, A-dác-gia, con của Ma-a-xê-gia, cháu A-nan-gia, lo việc tu bổ bên cạnh nhà ông.

24Kế đến, Bin-nui, con của Khê-na-đát, lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai, từ nhà A-dác-gia cho đến Góc tường thành.

25Kế đến, Pa-lan, con của U-dai, lo việc tu bổ phía trước Góc tường thành và tháp thượng nhô ra ngoài đền vua, gần bên sân khám đường. Kế đến, Pơ-đa-gia, con của Pác-ốt, lo việc tu bổ

26cho đến trước cửa Nước ở phía đông và trước Tháp nhô ra.

27Kế đến, dân thành Tơ-cô-a lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai, từ phía trước Tháp lớn nhô ra cho đến tường của Ô-phen.

28Từ bên trên cửa Ngựa, mỗi tư tế lo tu bổ ở trước nhà mình.

29Kế đến, Xa-đốc, con của Im-me, lo việc tu bổ ở trước nhà ông ; kế đến, Sơ-ma-gia, con của Sơ-khan-gia, người canh cửa đông, lo việc tu bổ.

30Kế đến, Kha-nan-gia, con của Se-lem-gia, và Kha-nun, con thứ sáu của Xa-láp, lo việc tu bổ phần thứ hai ; kế đến, Mơ-su-lam, con của Be-réc-gia, lo việc tu bổ phía trước phòng ông.

31Kế đến, Man-ki-gia, thuộc giới thợ kim hoàn, lo việc tu bổ cho đến nhà của những người phục vụ Đền Thờ và của giới buôn bán, đối diện với cửa Canh và cho đến phòng trên lầu phía Góc tường thành.

32Còn các thợ kim hoàn và các nhà buôn thì lo việc tu bổ giữa phòng trên lầu phía Góc tường thành và cửa Chiên.

33Nghe tin chúng tôi xây lại tường thành, Xan-ba-lát nổi giận và tỏ ra rất bực tức. Y nhạo cười người Do-thái.

34Y nói trước mặt anh em và toán quân Sa-ma-ri rằng : “Bọn Do-thái mạt kiếp kia tính làm gì đây ? Dễ thường chúng tưởng có thể sửa lại, rồi tế lễ và làm xong tất cả nội trong một ngày đấy ? Từ đống đá vụn cháy đen, liệu chúng có thể làm ra những viên đá mới không ?”

35Tô-vi-gia, người Am-mon đang ở bên cạnh y, cũng nói : “Chúng cứ xây đi ! Chỉ cần một con chồn leo lên là tường thành bằng đá của chúng sụp đổ ngay !”

36Lạy Thiên Chúa chúng con, xin lắng nghe : chúng con bị khinh dể chừng nào ! Nỗi ô nhục chúng đã gây ra, xin trút lại trên đầu chúng ; xin biến chúng thành chiến lợi phẩm trong tay người chiến thắng nơi chúng bị tù đày.

37Xin đừng che lấp lỗi lầm của chúng, và đừng xoá bỏ tội chúng trước nhan Ngài, vì chúng đã xúc phạm đến những người xây cất.

38Vậy chúng tôi đã xây tường thành, và tất cả tường thành được xây kín đến lưng chừng. Và dân đã hết lòng tham gia công việc này.
