Numbers

1After the blood of the guilty was shed, the Lord said to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron, the priest:

2Number the whole sum of the children of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their houses and kindreds, all that are able to go forth to war.

3Moses therefore and Eleazar the priest, being in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan over against Jericho, spoke to them that were

4From twenty years old and upward, as the Lord had commanded: and this is the number of them:

5Ruben the firstborn of Israel. His sons were Henoch, of whom is the family of the Henochites: and Phallu, of whom is the family of the Phalluites:

6And Hesron, of whom is the family of the Hesronites: and Charmi, of whom is the family of the Charmites.

7These are the families of the stock of Ruben: whose number was found to be forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

8The son of Phallu was Eliab.

9His sons, were Namuel and Dathan and Abiron. These are Dathan and Abiron the princes of the people, that rose against Moses and Aaron in the sedition of Core, when they rebelled against the Lord:

10And the earth opening her mouth swallowed up Core, many others dying, when the fire burned two hundred and fifty men. And there was a great miracle wrought,

11That when Core perished, his sons did not perish.

12The sons of Simeon by their kindreds: Namuel, of him is the family of the Namuelites: Jamin, of him is the family of the Jaminites: Jachin, of him is the family of the Jachinites:

13Zare, of him is the family of the Zarites: Saul, of him is the family of the Saulites.

14These are the families of the stock of Simeon, of which the whole number was twenty-two thousand two hundred.

15The sons of Gad by their kindreds: Sephon, of hin; Is the family of the Sephonites: Aggi, of him is the family of the Aggites: Suni, of him is the family of the Sunites:

16Ozni, of him is the family of the Oznites: Her, of him is the family of the Herites:

17Arod, of him is the family of the Arodites: Ariel, of him is the family of the Arielites.

18These are the families of Gad, of which the whole number was forty thousand five hundred.

19The sons of Juda, Her and Onan, who both died in the land of Chanaan.

20And the sons of Juda by their kindreds were: Sela, of whom is the family of the Selaites: Phares, of whom is the family of the Pharesites: Zare, of whom is the family of the Zarites.

21Moreover the sons of Phares were: Hesron, of whom is the family of the Hesronites: and Hamul, of whom is the family of the Hamulites.

22These are the families of Juda, of which the whole number was seventy-six thousand five hundred.

23The sons of Issachar, by their kindreds: Thola, of whom is the family of the Tholaites: Phua, of whom is the family of the Phuaites:

24Jasub, of whom is the family of the Jasubites: Semran, of whom is the family of the Semranites.

25These are the kindreds of Issachar, whose number was sixty-four thousand three hundred.

26The sons of Zabulon by their kindreds: Sared, of whom is the family of the Saredites: Elon, of whom is the family of the Elonites: Jalel, of whom is the family of the Jalelites.

27These are the kindreds of Zabulon, whose number was sixty thousand five hundred.

28The sons of Joseph by their kindred, Manasses and Ephraim.

29Of Manasses was born Machir, of whom is the family of the Machirites. Machir beget Galaad, of whom is the family of the Galaadites.

30Galaad had sons: Jezer, of whom is the family of the Jezerites: and Helec, of whom is the family of the Helecites:

31And Asriel, of whom is the family of the Asrielites: and Sechem, of whom is the family of the Sechemites:

32And Semida, of whom is the family of the Semidaites: and Hepher, of whom is the family of the Hepherites.

33And Hepher was the father of Salphaad, who had no sons, but only daughters, whose names are these: Maala, and Noa, and Hegla, and Melcha, and Thersa.

34These are the families of Manasses, and the number of them fifty-two thousand seven hundred.

35And the sons of Ephraim by their kindreds were these: Suthala, of whom is the family of the Suthalaites: Becher, of whom is the family of the Becherites: Thehen, of whom is the family of the Thehenites.

36Now the son of Suthala was Heran, of whom is the family of the Heranites.

37These are the kindreds of the sons of Ephraim: whose number was thirty-two thousand five hundred.

38These are the sons of Joseph by their families. The sons of Benjamin in their kindreds: Bela, of whom is the family of the Belaites: Asbel, of whom is the family of the Asbelites: Ahiram, of whom is the family of the Ahiramites:

39Supham, of whom is the family of the Suphamites: Hupham, of whom is the family of the Huphamites.

40The sons of Bela: Hered, and Noeman. Of Hered, is the family of the Heredites: of Noeman, the family of tile Noemanites.

41These are the sons of Benjamin by their kindreds, whose number was forty-five thousand six hundred.

42The sons of Dan by their kindreds: Suham, of whom is the family of the Suhamites: These are the kindreds of Dan by their families.

43All were Suhamites, whose number was sixty-four thousand four hundred.

44The sons of Aser by their kindreds: Jemna, of whom is the family of the Jemnaites: Jessui, of whom is the family of the Jessuites: Brie, of whom is the family of the Brieites.

45The sons of Brie: Heber, of whom is the family of the Heberites: and Melchiel, of whom is the family of the Melchielites.

46And the name of the daughter of Aser, was Sara.

47These are the kindreds of the sons of Aser, and their number fifty-three thousand four hundred.

48The sons of Nephtali by their kindreds: Jesiel, of whom is the family of the Jesielites: Guni, of whom is the family of the Gunites:

49Jeser, of whom is the family of the Jeserites: Sellem, of whom is the family of the Sellemites.

50These are the kindreds of the sons of Nephtali by their families: whose number was forty-five thousand four hundred.

51This is the sum of the children of Israel, that were reckoned up, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.

52And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

53To these shall the land be divided for their possessions according to the number of names.

54To the greater number thou shalt give a greater portion, and to the fewer a less: to every one, as they have now been reckoned up, shall a possession be delivered:

55Yet so that by lot the land be divided to the tribe and families.

56Whatsoever shall fall by lot, that shall be taken by the more, or the fewer.

57This also is the number of the sons of Levi by their families: Gerson, of whom is the family of the Gersonites: Caath, of whom is the family of the Caathites: Merari, of whom is the family of the Merarites.

58These are the families of Levi: The family of Lobni, the family of Hebroni, the family of Moholi, the family of Musi, the family of Core. Now Caath beget Amram:

59Who had to wife Jochabed the daughter of Levi, who was horn to him in Egypt. She bore to her husband Amram sons, Aaron and Moses, and Mary their sister.

60Of Aaron were born Nadab and Abiu, and Eleazar and Ithamar:

61Of whom Nadab and Abiu died, when they had offered the strange fire before the Lord.

62And all that were numbered, were twenty-three thousand males from one month old and upward: for they were not reckoned up among the children of Israel, neither was a possession given to them with the rest.

63This is the number of the children of Israel, that were enrolled by Moses and Eleazar the priest, in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan, over against Jericho.

64Among whom there was not one of them that were numbered before by Moses and Aaron in the desert of Sinai.

65For the Lord had foretold that they should die in the wilderness. And none remained of them, but Caleb the son of Jephone, and Josue the son of Nun.

1ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê và ông E-la-da, con tư tế A-ha-ron rằng :

2“Các ngươi hãy kiểm tra toàn thể cộng đồng con cái Ít-ra-en, từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, nghĩa là mọi người đến tuổi nhập ngũ trong dân Ít-ra-en.”

3Ông Mô-sê và tư tế E-la-da đã kiểm tra tại thảo nguyên Mô-áp, gần sông Gio-đan, đối diện với Giê-ri-khô,

4những người từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, như ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông Mô-sê và con cái Ít-ra-en, khi họ đã ra khỏi đất Ai-cập.

5Rưu-vên, trưởng nam của Ít-ra-en. Con cái Rưu-vên : Kha-nốc, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Kha-nốc ; Pa-lu, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Pa-lu ;

6Khét-rôn, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khét-rôn ; Các-mi, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Các-mi.

7Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Rưu-vên. Tổng số người được kiểm là 43.730.

8Con cháu Pa-lu : Ê-li-áp.

9Các con Ê-li-áp là Nơ-mu-ên, Đa-than và A-vi-ram. Chính Đa-than và A-vi-ram, những người được chỉ định trong cộng đồng, đã nổi lên chống ông Mô-sê và ông A-ha-ron, cùng toa rập với Cô-rắc chống lại ĐỨC CHÚA.

10Đất đã mở họng nuốt chửng chúng và Cô-rắc, khiến cả bọn phải tiêu vong, và lửa đã thiêu huỷ 250 mạng để làm gương.

11Thế nhưng con cái Cô-rắc đã không chết.

12Con cháu Si-mê-ôn, theo thị tộc của họ : Nơ-mu-ên, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Nơ-mu-ên ; Gia-min, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Gia-min ; Gia-khin, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Gia-khin ;

13De-rác, thuỷ tổ thị tộc De-rác ; Sa-un, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Sa-un.

14Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Si-mê-ôn, số người được kiểm tra là 22.000.

15Con cháu Gát, theo thị tộc của họ : Xơ-phôn, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Xơ-phôn ; Khác-ghi, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khác-ghi ; Su-ni, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Su-ni ;

16Ót-ni, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ót-ni ; Ê-ri, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ê-ri ;

17A-rốt, thuỷ tổ thị tộc A-rốt ; Ác-ê-li, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ác-ê-li.

18Đó là các thị tộc con cháu Gát, số người được kiểm tra là 40.500.

19Các con Giu-đa là E và Ô-nan, nhưng E và Ô-nan chết trong đất Ca-na-an.

20Con cháu Giu-đa theo thị tộc : Sê-la, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Sê-la ; Pe-rét, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Pe-rét ; De-rác, thuỷ tổ thị tộc De-rác.

21Con cháu Pe-rét : Khét-rôn, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khét-rôn ; Kha-mun, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Kha-mun.

22Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Giu-đa, số người được kiểm tra là 76.500.

23Con cháu Ít-xa-kha theo thị tộc của họ : Tô-la, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Tô-la ; Pu-va, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Pu-va ;

24Gia-súp, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Gia-súp ; Sim-rôn, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Sim-rôn.

25Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Ít-xa-kha, số người được kiểm tra là 64.300.

26Con cháu Dơ-vu-lun theo thị tộc của họ : Xe-rét, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Xe-rét ; Ê-lôn, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ê-lôn ; Giác-lơ-ên, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Giác-lơ-ên.

27Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Dơ-vu-lun, số người được kiểm tra là 60.500.

28Con cái Giu-se, theo chi tộc họ : Mơ-na-se và Ép-ra-im.

29Con cháu Mơ-na-se : Ma-khia, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ma-khia ; Ma-khia sinh Ga-la-át : Ga-la-át, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ga-la-át.

30Đây là con cái Ga-la-át : I-e-de, thuỷ tổ thị tộc I-e-de ; Khê-léc, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khê-léc.

31Át-ri-ên, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Át-ri-ên ; Se-khem, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Se-khem.

32Sơ-mi-đa, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Sơ-mi-đa ; Khê-phe, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khê-phe.

33Xơ-lóp-khát, con của Khê-phe, không có con trai, chỉ có con gái, và đây là tên các con gái của Xơ-lóp-khát : Mác-la, Nô-a, Khoóc-la, Min-ca và Tia-xa.

34Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Mơ-na-se ; số người được kiểm tra là 52.700.

35Đây là con cháu Ép-ra-im, theo thị tộc của họ : Su-the-lác, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Su-the-lác ; Be-khe, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Be-khe ; Ta-khan, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ta-khan.

36Và đây là các con cháu Su-the-lác : Ê-ran, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ê-ran.

37Đó là các thị tộc con cháu Ép-ra-im, số người được kiểm tra là 32.500. Những người ấy là con cháu Giu-se, theo các thị tộc.

38Con cháu Ben-gia-min theo thị tộc của họ : Be-la, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Be-la ; Át-bên, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Át-bên ; A-khi-ram, thuỷ tổ thị tộc A-khi-ram.

39Sơ-phu-pham, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Sơ-phu-pham ; Khu-pham, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khu-pham.

40Các con của Be-la là : Ác-đơ và Na-a-man ; Ác-đơ, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ác-đơ ; Na-a-man, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Na-a-man.

41Đó là các thị tộc con cháu Ben-gia-min ; số người được kiểm tra là 45.600.

42Đây là con cháu Đan theo thị tộc của họ : Su-kham, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Su-kham. Đó là các thị tộc thuộc chi tộc Đan được kiểm tra.

43Tất cả các thị tộc thuộc Su-kham được kiểm tra, số người là 64.400.

44Con cháu A-se theo thị tộc của họ : Gim-na, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Gim-na ; Gít-vi, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Gít-vi ; Bơ-ri-a, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Bơ-ri-a.

45Thuộc con cháu Bơ-ri-a : Khe-ve, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Khe-ve ; Man-ki-ên, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Man-ki-ên.

46Tên người con gái của A-se là Xa-rác.

47Đó là các thị tộc con cháu A-se ; số người được kiểm tra là 53.400.

48Con cháu Náp-ta-li theo thị tộc của họ : Giác-xơ-ên, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Giác-xơ-ên ; Gu-ni, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Gu-ni.

49Giê-xe, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Giê-xe ; Si-lêm, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Si-lêm.

50Đó là các thị tộc Náp-ta-li, theo các thị tộc của họ ; số người được kiểm tra là 45.400.

51Đây tổng số con cái Ít-ra-en là 601.730.

52ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê rằng :

53“Đất đai sẽ được phân chia cho những người ấy theo số tên đã ghi.

54Đông người thì ngươi sẽ chia cho phần lớn hơn làm gia nghiệp, và ít người thì ngươi sẽ chia cho phần nhỏ hơn làm gia nghiệp ; ngươi sẽ cho mỗi chi tộc phần gia nghiệp tương xứng với số người đã được kiểm tra.

55Nhưng phải bắt thăm để chia đất. Theo tên các chi tộc tổ tiên của chúng mà lãnh phần.

56Cứ bắt thăm mà lãnh, tuỳ theo đông người hay ít người.”

57Đây là các thầy Lê-vi đã được kiểm tra theo thị tộc của họ : Ghéc-sôn, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Ghéc-sôn ; Cơ-hát, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Cơ-hát ; Mơ-ra-ri, thuỷ tổ thị tộc Mơ-ra-ri.

58Cơ-hát sinh Am-ram.

59Tên người vợ của Am-ram là Giô-khe-vét, con gái ông Lê-vi, ông đã sinh bên Ai-cập. Bà đã sinh cho ông Am-ram : A-ha-ron, Mô-sê và người em gái là Mi-ri-am.

60Ông A-ha-ron sinh ra Na-đáp, A-vi-hu, E-la-da, và I-tha-ma.

61Na-đáp và A-vi-hu đã chết khi họ dâng lửa phàm trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA.

62Số người Lê-vi được kiểm tra, tất cả con trai từ một tháng trở lên, là 23.000 bởi họ đã không được kiểm tra chung với con cái Ít-ra-en, vì không được chung phần gia nghiệp.

63Đó là những người được ông Mô-sê và tư tế E-la-da kiểm tra, khi các ông kiểm tra con cái Ít-ra-en trong thảo nguyên Mô-áp, gần sông Gio-đan, đối diện với Giê-ri-khô.

64Không ai trong những người ấy đã được ông Mô-sê và tư tế A-ha-ron kiểm tra, khi các ông kiểm tra con cái Ít-ra-en trong sa mạc Xi-nai.

65Vì, về những người này, ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán là họ sẽ phải chết trong sa mạc. Bởi vậy, trừ ông Ca-lếp, con ông Giơ-phun-ne, và trừ ông Giô-suê, con ông Nun, thì không còn ai nữa.
